Honestly, a terrible vet. First visit with our 5 month old frenchie and they recommended multiple surgeries. Have heard this from multiple other frenchie owners. Their pricing is double a regular vet. and they will be nice enough to make suggestions on your first visit that will eliminate the pet insurance you pay for. terrible experience and only looking for their spiffs from the veterinary sales people. Told them multiple times that I DO NOT want the combined heartworm, Flea/tick meds, and that is exactly what they gave us. They don't care what you want or say. they care about their dollars not the interest of their clients or animals. read more

As soon as I step in the door they say hi and immediately show love to my cat. Calling her cute and happy to see her even though they all know it's a struggle w my melly. Have been coming here for years although after this recent visit it left me questioning coming back. the technicians acted like veterinarians didn't introduce themselves as technicians I didn't know who I was talking to. the new veterinarian talked down to me because I thought my dog had one thing turned out to be another. Highly recommended as THE CLINIC for your pet. We have taken our pet to River Valley for many years. Just recently our pet passed and River Valley was there all the way with us. It is said that "it's not how you arrive, but how you leave" that's most important. River Valley has always provided care, transparent advice, and required services while giving suggestions on what else our pet could need without "selling" - I've always appreciated their approach to pet care. Their approach only got better when it was time for our pet to pass - their compassion and approach to a difficult decision with a pet that had no possible form of recovery was as if they were family. I was so impressed. I was greeted and taken care of quickly on the phone. When I arrived at their facility my dog and I was had no wait. I left my dog at the vet for the exam. The doctor called me personally to discuss my dog's condition. Thank you for taking the time, both with the receptionist and doctor. I liked not waiting in the parking lot. read more

I absolutely love this place! It's very clean, an aspect that it is very important to us. Staff is very professional and extremely nice to our pet. Love the fact, that she is not in a crate and that she has her own space. While on vacation, our pet is treated like royalty, and we are informed by how she is doing via text messages or pictures. There is a peace of mind whenever I leave her here, because not only do I know that she is being well taken care of, but if whatever reason she gets sick, her Vet is right next door! I have been a long time patron of River valley. I recently boarded my dog for two days. When I was presented with the bill I was Shocked. It was $178 for two days, this included mandatory medical tests on my dog. After expressing my opinion of the amount, the manager came out. She explain to me that the pricing was going to change in the future. Instead of being charged an extra day, there would be new drop off and pick up hours. Instead of affording me that pricing and keep me as a client, she acted as if she didn't care. Not only was I charged huge fees, my dog smelled and his bottom had feces stuck to it. I had to give him a bath. I will never return. read more

BEST VET CLINIC YET!! Having lived in a few different cities over my first dog's lifespan, we had some "decent" vets. Came to River Valley when we got our new puppy after we moved to Savage, and could NOT be happier! The ladies at the front desk are always so excited to see Frankie, and he returns the feelings! Every doctor we've dealt with is so great with not only Frankie, but with us as well. They treat them as their own, are quick to calm concerns if we have them, and are always willing to take the time to answer any and all questions and make sure we're comfortable before we leave. I have complete trust in their care, in their recommendations, and in their treatment of my pets. From time to time surgery has been needed and we have never had any fear going into them. You just can't get better than Dr. Bruce Viren. He is the most caring, compassionate, and understanding veterinarian there is. He will spend as long as it will take to answer questions a client has. I use Dr. Viren for equine and he is outstanding. He calls back in a very timely manner, and will come out no matter what the hour is. All the animals love him and it's obvious how much he loves and cares for them. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my horses. read more

Boarded dogs there are separate occassions. The boarding rooms are very nice and large. Loved the ability to watch the doggie camera. Everyone is friendly. Unfortunately, 3 out of the 4 times I used the facility (twice for boarding and obedience class) my dog became sick with vomiting and diarrhea. I had the expense of boarding and returned to their vet clinic for treatment. It was in agreement that the dog may have contracted a virus while boarding and attending class - however the clinic didn't take responsibility for the dog contracting a virus from their facility. Really should be a service that if your dog becomes ill after boarding service the clinic will cover medical treatment. read more

The prices are so inflated. It's outrageous. $500 to spay a dog? That's ridiculous. I called one other place to compare prices and they quoted me at $300. They also said they would pull teeth for 40 bucks--instead of $100 per tooth at River Valley. That's only the first other vet I called. Even a simple Google search said the average cost to spay is $175-300. Look around before you decide to go here. There are lots of nice vets around who don't swindle every dime out of you. read more

I have 2 older dogs, one is blind. We have always had pet sitters come to our house to take care for f them because we didn't want to stress them out(this of course, would stress us out tho). Our care takers ended their business and I was very nervous about what to do. I had them booked at 2 different places, each time learning that their kennels were cold, concrete and with wire cages facing other dogs. That they only did 3 walks a day and when I went into one I was blown away from the stink and the dogs just barking wildly. Felt like I was watching an animal cruelty commercial I was practically crying! Came upon River Valley Pet and their "Groom & Board" kennel and it was AMAZING!! Only for a few dollars more the dogs' accommodation was far and away superior. Room temp, each room with glass door & window! Clean, clean, clean! Staff so friendly & caring! Cameras so you can monitor your pet- AWESOME! Dogs got home and they were the LEAST STRESSED I had EVER seen, even after being watched at home! So grateful! There were additional one on one .5 hr "petting" service that I could book for my blind dog. He loved it!! When we were leaving he made way for the room that the sessions were in rather than the door! HIGHLY RECOMMEND this boarding service!!! read more

Some friends recommended we bring our dog here for a second opinion for a skin condition that has had him in complete and worsening misery. After 1 visit I am so thrilled to know he's finally on the right path to recovery and believe the staff and Dr are genuinely concerned and committed to making our dog better!! Staff and equine vet at River Valley Vet Service have provided excellent treatments for my horses, and I trust them and their opinions. When other vets don't know, it seems River Valley vet does know, and explains conditons to me. Equine vet does excellent dental, too. More reasonably priced than another equine vet service in the area, and chargless less for a barn call than other (closer) equine vet. read more

Very disappointed in my dog's first visit here. Felt judged because I owned a pit bull. The tech even stated to my wife that she was scared before examining him. And didn't even introduce herself to the dog before so. Textbook mistake in my eyes, especially from a veterinarian. She began to examine his ears immediately and got to the most irritated one and he bit her. Now they have classified him as aggressive and fear for people's safety at my home and at their facility. Want me to sedate and muzzle him upon returning. I will have you know that I will be cancelling my appointment. My dog is not the least bit aggressive at home. My 5 and 6 year old lay all over him, and I myself have even used him as a pillow. Things would have gone so much differently if the tech had introduced herself, let the dog smell her and she pet him to show no hostility. VERY UNHAPPY and pissed off. read more
