In the process, I hurt my back and when I dared to request a more accessible spot -- as a response -- I was locked out of the bicycle room. I had to keep my bicycle on the street where accessories were stolen off of it and the elements were not kind to it either. There was an approximately two-inch level difference between the bathroom and the foyer in my unit, which I learned about the hard way: I got painfully injured the first day I moved in. The grain bugs were insects I first encountered in my life, in the living section, -- no less-- in the apartment when I moved in and the management had done absolutely nothing to eliminate them, I had to take measures myself. While the general cleanliness of the building was acceptable, the Western Staircase had not been swept, let alone mopped -- at the last portion of my stay -- regardless of multiple cleaning requests. The tip of the iceberg, i.e. the most serious of the multitude of violations was that Webster House Associates started a major alteration -- taking a bedroom away and adding an elevator while building an extensive roof deck -- at the height of the 2020 pandemic, endangering the residents, and as a ripple effect everyone those residents had contact with. Us, the people, --including elderly and/or disabled individuals and children -- residing on the top floor were the ones exposed to the highest amounts of noise, noise, dust, and unidentified chemicals, without being forewarned: I had not received any prior notification that my residential space would be turned into a construction site with unbearable noise, dirt, and constant traffic of strangers for five consecutive months, during a pandemic with an already exorbitant death toll. The pictures on their web site make the lobby look like the Ritz and while it's surely no Ritz Carlton it's still a pretty nice building. 3 bedrooms/2 bathroom apartments run about $2100. This building used to be a hotel so the apartment we saw was probably 2 hotel suites beforehand and even had 2 entrances on both sides of the apartment building...perfect for avoiding your roommate when you're sneaking a boy/girl into the apartment late night. All 3 rooms were drastically different in size. The master bedroom was so big that you could probably fit 2 queen sized beds in there, while the smallest room would feel cramped with a twin size bed. I also noticed plenty of closet space, which would make big shoppers like myself very happy. This apartment isn't for me, but I think it's ideal for youngins looking for their first apartment right out of college. It's in a fun part of town not to mention the Lincoln Park Zoo is just right across the street, it's inexpensive, and it's safe! What more could you ask for at 21?

If you're from a gang infested, low rent area, then yes, this may seem like an upgrade. Like living in hotel room. But if you're a person who grew up in a decent place, in my opinion, you'll regret it. People 'escape" from here. I have seen it. The look when they get that last bag downstairs. I had previously lived in Wrigleyville and had a terrible experience, as the building I lived in had a different landlord for each individual unit. Long story short, no one was accountable for anything and nothing ever got done since there were roughly 30 different landlords in one building. Upon reading these reviews, I was nervous about moving in but I loved the unit I saw in the Brewery Lofts so I signed the lease anyways. I've been living there for roughly 7 months and I have to say, they are on top of everything and their response time is great. They are in the process of renovating all the units in this building, so when I moved in I had a brand new kitchen counter with new appliances. They also recently installed new bathroom cabinets for more storage in my bathroom. Here are some bullet points: -my neighbors above me were smoking so much weed my apartment smelled like straight weed the first week I moved in. They came and inspected all my fans and air ducts, re-sealed the seam between my ceiling and the wall to make sure no smoke came in that way, and fined my neighbors. -there are no dogs allowed in the building for any reason at any time (unless it's a service dog). Another neighbor tried to dog-sit some dogs over a long weekend that would not stop barking. They were served with a 10 day eviction notice to get rid of the dogs, which they did. -they have an emergency after hours maintenance service that has consistently responded within an hour for any maintenance request I have. They came and fixed my furnace immediately when it was -20, my shower handle that fell off on a Saturday monday, and sealed my windows for the winter. -storage units are first come, first serve. some people were taking advantage of the storage units when I moved in and claiming 2 storage units per apartment. Enterprise reorganized all the storage units and made tenants re-file with them which storage units they had, to make sure each apartment had only one unit. Because of this, a few units opened up and I was able to get a unit. Jen Danisch and Nicky Rodriguez are always available during the day, and never hard to reach. They always immediately respond to any request or complaint a tenant has, and because of this, I plan on renewing my lease in October.

The Pros: the building has a great location, most units offer fantastic views of the lake. It is directly across the street from the lake front and walking trails. The building has a three floor FFC, deli, and on-site dry cleaning. It is fully staffed with friendly door people, management, and maintenance. The cons: it is clear the staff hates move ins / move outs and will treat movers like second class citizens. They don't respect the time blocks for moves and might start your move late or end it early (adding stress to moving day). The buildings forced air system also pushes smells of marijuana into your unit if neighbors smoke. There is a planned 20+ story tower to be constructed in front which may block views and add noise / dirt through construction. I would move back to the building but only on a high floor and in a unit that had been recently renovated.

Heat and AC are criminally high-- $250-450 a month in extreme weather. I lived in a 3,000 sf condo prior to this bldg-- the heat and AC were no where near that. The utilities are obnoxiously overcharged. Again the bldg has asbestos, mold and lead paint issues. There are WAY better condos in this neighborhood to rent from where the staff is actually classy, friendly and competent. There is a reason the yearly turn over is so high in this bldg: it is run like a slum.
