I was looking for a place to drive out to for a day trip that had hard cider and apple cider donuts and this place had both. There is a huge parking lot and despite that we barely found one parking space at 2 pm. They're practicing social distancing and there was quite a long line to get in. To my knowledge they're not taking reservations and we waited about 45 min to an hour. You must order sunstantial food prior to them allowing you to purchase alcohol and carry your receipt of food purchase when ordering beer if you want to be served. Food items ranged from about $10-$16. Beers are about $9 and a flight of 4 for $12. My favorite was the cinnamon toast cider with cinnamon sugar on the rim. They also had a lady making fresh guacamole on the spot from a cart prior to going out to the patio. FYI- of you sit outdoors be prepared to encounter flies & bees galore. read more

Walking into Home Depot; I mean, the cider house (it smells like Home Depot) you kind of have this overwhelming shock and aw by how utterly gigantic it is. You'll notice a couple of fireplaces with cozy seating areas, pianos that I can only assume are for dueling and antique doors as tables. The place was nice enough. The idea of repurposing doors as tables was interesting, but really just looked like they went to a contractor who demolished an old house. I went there with a group so felt obligated to purchase a beverage. If I had walked in alone and when I saw the $9 price for a 14 ounce pour (not filled to the top, so even less than that), I would have turned around and walked out. Even in Manhattan, I do not pay $9 for a pint. They are absurdly overpriced, especially with the majority of the taps being from outside breweries that you can get at any neighborhood bar for $6 or $7 a pint. I been coming here for years! I loved this establishment and have always enjoyed this place. I moved out of state and I planned a trip back home with family and friends for a wine tour. I called weeks and days a head to check and confirm the transportation, rules and current Covid policies. I mentioned we will be in a sprinter and they said that was fine. We pulled into the parking lot and the owner immediately came out. He told us they were closing soon and we weren't allowed in because of the vehicle we were in. We had a little over 30 minutes till closing, entertainment ends at 6pm. We said we were fine with getting out and having the vehicle pick us up. He said no and told us to leave. He was rude and absolutely nasty. He had no manners and handled the situation with poor customer service. He should be ashamed of himself! I was so taken back since I been going there for years and never had a problem with any of the tours I planned. It put a damper on the end of our evening and I will never go there again. An absolute must-try. The place is so spacious - but sometimes not spacious enough for those busy days in the summer & fall seasons. My favorites include the Blackberry Habanero, Apple Annie, and Razzmatazz! However, if you're not into cider, they also have a selection of beer and wines. The food in the cafeteria-style area is OKAY, but the real winner is the guacamole. But no matter how good guacamole can be - selling a small cup for $15 should be illegal. Never ever been the person to post a review, better yet a negative one I have been a loyal customer for years. Always been a fan of the fall atmosphere. But if you have a service animal be prepared to be rejected for entry. My boyfriend (an active duty military personnel) and I tried to enter with our well trained German Shepard service dog and was accused of "not actually needing a service dog" as per the security at the front. We faced judgement and he said "do you really need this dog for service though? I'm trained in this kind of thing and can tell by you approaching me she's not a true service animal." We didn't even bother to show her official service ID because it was not needed after the judgment. He then proceeded to tell us how people "do this kind of thing" and "scam" with a service animals. Cider was amazing! Came here with my sister and mom and it was a very relaxed ambiance. People were there with friends, family and even their kids. The inside beautiful and very welcoming. It would be awesome if they offered my food items and cleaned the tables where people sit. I've dragged her all over the island to numerous breweries, but finally a few weeks ago, it was time for her to get some payback. That alcoholic revenge came in the form of Riverhead Ciderhouse. But this apple-based spot held so much more than just a few taps of cider. This was a Long Island experience and one we're both ready to repeat. Let's get to the core of things (apple joke...don't hate). RC is massive in size. It's not a tiny tasting room like you'll find over at Woodside (no disrespect). This place can hold dozens of people and still not feel packed. The ambiance gives way to a hybrid vineyard/cafe/tap room that has enough class and casual feel to welcome any walk of life. Fire places at both ends, live music piped through, and a relaxing outdoor courtyard area in the back are just some of the thematic highlights. Beyond that, it's about the cider. Well, at least it should be. RC has concocted several sweet and tart apple-based ciders and this was right up my girlfriend's apple alley. Want a flight? No problemo. She scored all four Riverhead originals available at the time. Razzmatazz, Benjamin's Best, Founders Reserve, and Honey Crisp Bolt. Each cider held its own distinct flavor, from sweetness, to tart, to a dry feeling on the palate. What they actually shared in common was a liking by the lady in that she'd order them all again (me too, just sayin'). Now cider is only the start because RC offers up plenty of local craft beer, wine from nearby vineyards, house made sangria (we scored a glass of this lovely drink), and plenty of snacks and foods available via the cafe. Want a pizza? Salad? Sandwich? They've got you covered. Better yet, if you like guacamole, you'll die and go to avocado heaven. Why? Table side (or whatever you're sitting at) guac! Freshly made in front of you just how you want it and accompanied by a hefty helping of chips. We hold my mothers guacamole recipe as our favorite, but I gotta say this one might give my mama a run for her money (shh don't tell her). Unfortunately, not everything was apple perfect. I did find the cider flight to be a tad stingy on the poor for each one. Along with that, pints were a dollar or two higher than you'd like to see when sipping from the source. This was made up by the super friendly staff and the feeling of commonality between us as we were breaking bread and drinking drinks together as Long Islanders. With this feeling, I'm willing to bump a 4.5 kind of feel to a full five stars. Just know that last star is subject to further visits. Overall, Riverhead Ciderhouse takes so many aspects of a rockin' local hang out and is able to throw it all together under one pretty large roof. With tasty original cider choices and more on deck, that's enough to bring my girlfriend and I back. Add in everything else and you know it's gonna happen. I mean, she was screaming "I have a brewery!" by the end of our visit. Maybe not 100% accurate, but the feeling is there. I don't even like cider but the tasting was really fun and I even found a couple I liked from the dryer range. They are very helpful here and the vibe is very chill. Folks, this place should be at the welcome center at exit 53 on the L.I.E. because Riverhead Cider House truly represents the best of what Long Island has to offer. Riverhead Cider House took the old Blackman warehouse and turned it into a cider making Ale house where folks heading east can first stop and drink our famous Long Island Wines, Beers and crafted ciders. My wife & I drive up and the parking lot is packed?? We drive to the back and grab one of the last open spaces. We walk in and we're greeted by a snappy looking older gentleman wearing a Disney Tie. We both said at the same time, nice tie! Walking inside, its a huge space that's tastefully decorated. What caught my eye was the party room to the right. This would be a fun space for a Christmas party, Bridal or Baby Shower. To the left is a gift shop where you can get all of your Riverhead Cider House gear. Hats, Tee Shirts as well as bringing home a growler, Once you walk into the space, there's a lot of things happening. The bar it seems, goes on forever. There are two fireplaces and in the middle of it all is a piano player playing Burt Bacharach tunes. The vibe is infectionous and its geared towards families as well as motorcycle clubs looking to relax and grab a bite to eat. The cafe is where they sell small nibbles, like that giant pretzel I posted as well as salads & wraps. We were sitting and drinking and a woman with a fresh guacamole cart came by!? $12 bucks gets you chips and guacamole. A fun filled girls day out East was a blast. It was most of us int he groups first time. We arrived around 3ish on a Saturday and it was packedddd. We had to park literally all the way around the building. The space is huge and if the weather permits, the outdoor area serves as another seating area. The bar is pretty large with a full staff ready and friendly to serve guest. We ordered 2 pies of the pizza. They came out soo fast and were pretty good too. The live music wasn't our taste, but it adds to entertainment in the establishment. The beer options are great. I'm personally not a cider fan, but my friends enjoyed their flights and selected ones they indulged in. Wine is also available for purchase by the cup or bottle (for those not into beer/cider). My friends loved the cinnamon toast cider... but I was all about the reserve (not to sweet, not too dry... like Goldilocks "just right"). Then, we browsed for food. There's a guacamole cart which is guac to order (AMAZ) and there's a cafeteria. We got a giant pretzel to share. It was good! What a great place to go in the Fall! Went this past weekend with a few friends and we had a great time. I am a huge cider person so I was in heaven. We did 2 flights and all the cider was seriously amazing. It wasn't too packed, which was nice! Just an FYI, you almost have to fight to get a table to sit at. There are little food stands, so you order there and then go sit down at a table - if you can get one! We got guac and chips, the pretzel and pizza. Guac and chips were great and so was the pretzel but the pizza was awful. Got a margherita and buffalo chicken small pie and it didn't even taste like pizza. The large pretzel and the freshly made guacamole (made in front of you as you wait) are outstanding. I didn't think much of the pizza, but I'm pretty spoiled in that area having great pizzerias where I live. But hey, you ain't coming here for the pizza! It's the ciders and brews that bring 'em in. Wow wow! So happy I was finally able to make it to this place. I hear it's INSANE on the weekends so my boyfriend and I suck over here on a Thursday afternoon, and we scored because it was pretty much dead. Arriving late to the Cider scene I had no idea what to expect at the Riverhead Cider house. What I found was an education by the helpful staff, really good and varied cider and great food being enjoyed by a friendly and chill crowd. Part of the set up is a long bar with staff to walk you through flights of hard cider just like the wineries down Sound Ave do with wine. Twenty or so different ciders available on tap so you can get a feel for the range of Ciders available. My favorite was Honey Apple Crisp and Black Cherry Jalapeno. The space is huge I mean airplane hanger huge so plan on spending some time but you will not be bored since they have great kitchen serving up flatbreads, salads, pizza and sandwiches. Live music in the evening and they are even set up for dueling pianos. Plenty of parking and easy to get to this is a must stop for any North Shore trip. read more

My boyfriend and I came here in December after Christmas shopping at the outlets all day. It was the perfect place to relax and get something to drink before making the drive home. It was a Saturday night and there was a band playing. The place is huge and open with a lot of seating and board games on many of the tables. It was a very fun atmosphere. "Save Water, Drink Cider" I'm a huge fan of cider and of course had to come to a place that specializes in cider. The drive to the Cider House is like any trip out to Eastern Long Island: beautiful with all of the green acres of land. The drive was serene as we wondered where all of the people in this town were. Lo and behold, we found them at the Cider House! When we drove into the Cider House, we quickly saw that the place was packed as we had to drive all the way to the back of the parking lot. Although full, we knew this was a good sign and that we found the place to be in Calverton. Although this place sells beer and cider, it is family friendly with live music on Saturdays. The man who greeted us was lovely. The House is more like a hall because of its large size. There's a gift store in the front and you can see the tanks in the back through the glass. Expect to wait. Although there are a handful of bartenders, you will have to wait to be served as everyone crows around the bar. If you come in a group, delegate one person to get your order so to minimize the traffic and to go and find a place to sit. I highly recommend sitting outside as there are 96% less people in the garden that has couches and cinder block ledges. I think the garden is what adds charm to the place and I wish it were more spacious. Having more seating here might make this establishment feel less congested. I ordered a flight of 4 ciders for $10. The flight portions are small and don't look like they equate to a full glass. I would not order the Pom Pomme or the Doc's Draft Pear again as they tasted off and weren't very sweet. The Riverbed Razzmatazz was alright but I couldn't do a full glass of it. However, the Founder's Reserve was money and next time I would order it as a full glass. My boyfriend got the Benjamin's Best for $8 which he grew to enjoy and said that it was quite tart. They had a huge pretzel with dipping sauces that caught my eye and I would have ordered had we stayed longer. The food menu was on the pricier side but it is nice that it is available as some breweries don't serve food at all. I will keep this place in mind but I definitely would rather come back during a slower time when there aren't many people so I could kick back on the couch with friends on a warm sunny day. read more
