Riverlands Brewing is a little off the beaten path in St Charles' beer scene. With that, means they have a good amount of parking, great outdoor patio, and a fun, industrial interior. We stopped in to sample their beers. The favorite choices were the Dukes of Bavaria & Dean Street. I also tried the Painkiller seltzer and thoroughly enjoyed the flavor. Riverlands just keeps getting better every time I visit! The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They're always happy to help you find the perfect beer or seltzer, whether you know exactly what you want or just want to try something new. The selection is fantastic, with a great variety of beers and seltzers that truly offer something for everyone. Sours are my absolute favorite. Plus, I'm always excited for their rotating Tiki Time drinks during the summer! The food trucks are always delicious and add a fun, fresh element when onsite. The outdoor (and pet-friendly) patio is yet another highlight. It's clear they continue to invest in making the space even better each year. It's such a great spot to relax, hang out with friends, and enjoy a drink (or two). Riverlands is easily my favorite local spot. Best selection of beers in the Tri-City area! From award winning lagers to tasty hazy IPAs and fruity sours and seltzers, they've got a little bit of everything, and it's ALL top notch. Gorgeous taproom and amazing ambiance on the patio! Great beer and venue! Like most up and coming breweries, this is in an industrial complex. However, unlike most of those other places, they have done a great job with the space inside and especially the large patio outside. Really good beer especially when it comes to the hazy's. Not too hoppy but just right. Their counter ordering lines make it super easy to get your beer and relax inside or out. Although they have some snacks on hand and food vendors often no in-house dining. Just some good food away from being a top brew pub in the wider chicagoland area. read more

Riverlands Brewing Company is the latest Illinois brewery to mark off for a craft beer outing. Steve and I shared one beer on this excursion. The Kayak Pils is what we shared and it wasn't bad. For me it's kind of hard to go wrong with a pilsner to be honest. Some though make a mark than others like anything else. While we did find this beer refreshing it didn't necessarily make a huge mark in our minds for later reference or reminiscing. Highlights to find with this beer is crispness, breadiness, hoppiness, floral aspects and some sweetness. Good experience with this beer overall and one that is inoffensive and accessible to those that want the craft beer experience but not get overwhelmed with a particular set of flavors. read more

Beer good and the environment is nice. However, two issues that seemed random but now have been confirmed by recent (2nd) visit... unscrupulous business!!! Their advertised food trucks don't show... so maybe not their fault, but twice I've gone with a group expecting the truck that didn't show and no apology by staff/owner. Then, myself and someone else in my party were not charged for the beers we ordered - in both cases we were charged for beers that were MUCH more than those we ordered! Sounds like an accident, but this happened to me on two visits and to both myself and another couple this visit. This visit: me an extra $2.50 x 2 beers and for my friend $2.50 x 3 beers - again, seems like a simple error (but 4 separate tickets on 2 different visits)... I think not! Not going back. Best brewery there is in St. Charles by far. It kind of is in a weird area more like industrial. Riverlands is worth looking for of course and you'll be rewarded with some top notch beers on tap. Good vibes here. They also have a few snacks. Came with my friend because we heard good things about the beer and brewery. It certainly turned out to be true and we were mostly pleased. The brewery isn't that big but it's a lot bigger than these others in town. First we needed a beer. We had quite a few to choose from. I had a Shifting Currents. It's $7 a pint. This is a hazy pale ale and one of the lighter beers on tap. Good flavor. This wasn't extremely hoppy. She had a Temperate Forest. This one was kind of light so it's easy to have a few. We had the Pretzel Crack Memphis BBQ pretzels. It's $5 a bag. These are good to munch on while here and helps you maintain a good pace. Have to come back here. It's even better when it's warm and they open the patio. The beers and the pretzels are good stuff. read more

Early in 2020 we swung by, but back then they were only doing packaged beer to go as that's all the state allowed breweries to do. I was tempted, but chose to hold out until I could stay and try their beers on premises. That finally happened last night. Riverlands has a sizeable beer menu with 14 crafts on tap. The style range is just as wide starting with a low ABV pale ale on up to a barrel-aged bourbon ale sitting close to 15%. The rest of the menu touches nicely on a wide variety of crafts in between. I like to hit the spectrum and started off with a light weight, and tried a glass of the Temperate Forest first. Light, refreshing..this one would be better served outdoors on a warm day. It's not bad buy nothing special. Temperate left me pining for something heavy so I jumped up to Fuzzy Socks next - an imperial porter at 10%. That sucker had teeth. Full bodied with a punch and neat flavor, this one was an instant favorite. Before checking out I had to give Orbital Velocity a shot. This is one of two imperial stouts that they offer and it's tasty. At 14.5% it also has quite a bite. Better have some food in your belly for this guy! At 14 crafts, one visit isn't going to do it. Disappointed in the staff today. We have three tables of parents with the kids playing off to the side of the outdoor patio from 5:30-7:30, granted a band was playing around 6:30, but we're pretty much told to shut up the kids. At that moment all three tables got up and left. If you are going to label yourself as kids friendly and be outside, the staff needs to be ready for kids being kids away from the other patrons. Have never had an issue with this at Art History or Sturdy Shelter. read more

Best place for beer in the area. I've been going usually once a month, and have enjoyed their beers across the years. They have such a good variety that there's always something worth drinking from a Pils, sour, stout and IPAs. Only regret... and won't hold their /artistic process/ against them. I enjoyed my first visit to Riverlands on a recent Saturday afternoon. The interior is well laid out-wish they'd set up an outdoor spot if they can expand. For a craft brewery I believe prices are on point. They also offer crowlers for take-home consumption which is great. Absolutely loved it here! The venue itself is really impressive, just a really cool feel inside. It's clean and there's lots of places to sit but it did get busy so I recommend coming a little earlier if you want a table for your group. All the beers were so good and really unique! I loved the Acid Rainbow and so did everyone else in my group. The Yellow Kayak was also really good! But I really have no complaints about any of the beers. You have a full view of the back so you can get an idea of how things are made there which I think is a really nice personal touch. We met a few of the owners as well, really nice, hardworking guys! They don't serve food but have food trucks on a regular basis and I'm pretty positive you can bring whatever food you want or get something delivered as well. Very cool new brewery in the area, I'm looking forward to going back and trying out more flavors, which according to their Instagram they're adding new ones all the time! read more

This unimpressive exterior is just a facade. The interior is great and a very comfortable place to get a local brew! Bartenders were extremely knowledgeable and helpful in getting me started on my flight of awesome brews. With a wall of stone and a sizable sitting area, you can quickly find a place to sit and enjoy some of their staples. If you enjoy Hazy IPAS as much as I do as well as a very nicely balanced imperial stout, then this is the place for you. One thing that I am happy about is that they still aren't as known as More Brewing in Villa Park, or Mikerphone in Elk Grove, or Hop Butcher on the south side. Which means when they drop a great beer as they did the afternoon I was there, it's actually available with little to no worry of it being sold out by the time I get there. For years I've been saying St. Charles/Geneva/Batavia have needed some breweries and now they do! With Riverlands, Penrose, and Energy City, these places have great local beer to match the wonderful food selections close by. Though this place does not offer much other than small snacks, you can have most anything delivered straight to the brewery so that you can eat and drink. Beer Snob Time: This place has some of the better Hazy IPA's i've ever had. Every selection they had was on point and easily a 4/5 caps on Untappd. Their imperial stout, First Catch, is going to be at FOBAB this year as a BA version and I cannot wait to try it as this is one of the best Imperials i've had as a non-barrel aged stout. Out of 10 draughts, this place had at least 6 that I would drink multiples of without problems of being bored. Kuddos! read more

I'll start this out positive, good beer. Now, we had some of the worst service I've ever had (at a brewery). Breweries are normally chill, fun, and cool. This brewery is like going to a high school. They follow the rules, with no discretion. We asked if they had flights going, they said no. I get it, many breweries have discontinued flights during COVID, but they then served a bunch of tasters to another table. We had reserved a bubble, it was a hot day, and we were sweating in the bubble. When asked if we could move to one of the 7 open tables no in a tent bubble (which were all empty for the duration of our 1.5 hour stay) we were told no. This place seriously needs to reevaluate how they handle their clientele or they will turn people away. read more

Good beer. My wife and I went here because my sons band was playing here on a Saturday night on the patio. They have a good number of their own beers and the prices were reasonable. The inside area was nice with good atmosphere. My only complaint is that there were 0 wait staff, you had to order at the bar. There was a food truck there and while it was not bad it seemed expensive to me for what it was.... Various macaroni and cheese dishes, burgers and fries. I can only review the outside, as I didn't go inside. They had picnic tables spread out and staff were observed wiping down tables as soon as other guests left. I appreciate that you can order drafts in 2 sizes. Staff were wearing masks and were constantly checking on tables. Been to Riverlands a handful of times since pretty much right after they opened. Been a big fan of their brews and the vibe of their brewery. Even during the lockdown due to Covid, I was picking their beers up from my local bottle shops because I missed hanging out at their brewery so much. Riverlands has a typical small brewery vibe and is really nice to hang out at. Over the weekend, my boyfriend and I went back for the first time in months and sat out at their patio because we're still being cautious over COVID-19. Tables were spaced out nicely. There's signage posted about mask-wearing and I saw employees walking around and wiping the tables down right after people left. You can still sit inside if you'd like and everything seemed safe and social distanced properly. If you're there for a casual, fun time and some good beer, this is a great place to hang. read more

We drive by here often but it never seemed to be open - last Friday we were driving by and it was packed! We stopped and were pleasantly surprised at both their outdoor and especially the indoor. Outdoor had a food truck, live music and many tables (and lots of dogs) and inside was REALLY nice. I'm not sure what I expected but its just a really beautiful, large indoor that is very homey. I was overall disappointed by this place as a service was horrible and slow and he look was pretty dull and boring they have a lot of awful art around the building and much of their space is dedicated to these huge Brewery tanks that take up half the building there was outdoor seating but no one was sitting out there and the beer that they served the two I tried were not very good too fruity there was also too many families with little children running around which is inappropriate for a better place fortunately at least there was not a dog running around like in many of these breweries read more

Love the beer, especially the IPAs and goses, but the acid rainbow series is my absolute favorite. They're tart, fruity, and brilliantly colored. Easily some of my favorite beer on the planet.
