Came to get a few beers at this small brewery in Batavia. Energy City is tucked away along a side street in a building that's confusing looking. It doesn't look like a brewery would be there. Actually it is. They specialize in fruity ones and sours, so not beers that are hoppy obviously. Beers are typically hoppy to some point, but these aren't. It's for sure a type not many are used to having. These all have a lot of fruit, but what's unique is the fruit is added after the brewing process. Adds a lot of fruit flavor. These often have the consistency of a smoothie. It's about $8 a can. They brew in pretty small batches at Church Street Brewery in Itasca, and serve these at this taproom. Best we had the last time was the Bistro Pineapple Strawberry Habanero. This is a Berliner style weisse. Consistency was thick like a smoothie would be. This had a lot of fruit flavor, but it also had a tartness. For sure we could try some of these beers again. It's located on First Street. They're closed Mondays to Thursdays, pretty limited hours, so it's a place to go on weekends. read more

I've had Energy City Brewing on my radar for a while now. I previously came across them at Church Street Brewing and a beer festival. I'm glad they now have a taproom to visit. The taproom is a simple but comfortable set up with plenty of options for small and larger groups. When I went up to order, there were a couple of options that caught my eye. Energy City Brewing takes on a lot of Bistro/Coffee Shop flavors and transforms them into beers. Flavors like pineapple banana cream pie to grasshopper mint. Thankfully there were a couple of canned options available to sample. Their prices are comparable to other specialty pint prices. Best brewery I have been to in months. With going to well over 500 breweries this ranks up there with drekker and junkyard and half brothers. Great smoothie sours. Canned, cold, and colorful. Energy City is one of my favorite local Chicagoland craft breweries. Amazing stouts and their fruity summer beers are out of this world. Some of their beers taste more like a tropical cocktail than a beer. Their Smoothie beers are made with real fruit, it's like drinking your dessert. I've shared with some friends who are not even beer drinkers and they fell in love. If you're looking for a triple IPA or boring Pilsner this probably isn't the place for you but if you're looking for something different, fun outside the box and delicious this is your place. The Energy City staff is great, they always greet you with a smile and offer free tasting samples of their beers. We swung by here for beers a few weeks ago. Energy City is well known for their sour fruit beers, which are amazing! But they also have multiple other styles. You can have a beer there in their comfy tasting room or outside, or you can get cans to go. The service is also good. So happy that I finally caught them on a day they were open! I had tried some of their beers at different festivals but never had been around the area on a day the taproom was open. We had a decent beer experience with Energy City Brewing. Steve and had two of their beers which we thought were pretty solid. We had the Mango'rine Sorbet IPA which as the name indicates is a mango IPA with some tangerine. Interesting and complex this beer was. Another one that was equally intriguing was the Batisserie Chocolate Raspberry Stout. Small brewery located about a half mile outside of the town center in Batavia. Seating inside for maybe 50 people. Outside seating was closed due to the cold weather. They do offer tastings of their new "Bistro" series of beers which seemed like they were a hit with everyone. Tried the Blueberry Glazed Donut which was unique but not one of my favorites. Absolutely loved the Pineapple Upside Down Cake beer. Good beer to go selection. I wish they had food options or a food truck especially on a Saturday afternoon. Parking available in front of the brewery as well as street parking. Seems like they are not afraid to brew new flavors of beer so definitely a place to go and be adventurous and try a few new beers! read more

LOVE the brews here at Energy City! Always friendly service and cute ambiance. I only wish they were open more than once a week! They have a few beers on tap and can pours of all your favorites. If you haven't been to this brewery you need to give it a chance. Energy city has found its niche in the fruit forward, smoothie-esque sours. And while all of their beers are delicious, the best thing we found is that the owner doesn't hesitate to not only let you try their beers, but also to promote all the local breweries that may appeal to you. The brewery doesn't provide a lot of food options directly, but like many other breweries they are fully open to brining in outside food. In addition to great beer and great service, they also have a nice, quality shuffleboard table. I think this brewery has quickly become my wife's favorite brewery in the area! Staff was nice and funny. We enjoyed that they gave us some free taste since it was our first time. Strawberry Rhubarb was our favorite. Best beer in IL, in my opinion. They are only open the 1st Saturday of every month for purchase of whatever they have brewed, and for special releases. From 11am-2pm I am here today waiting in line to snag their fruit smoothie beer releases. They look delicious. I hope they open a taproom soon. The line is out the door and around the building. It's always that way...glad they got a new, bigger building. Their peanut butter cup stout and s'mores stouts are fantastic and the double marshmallow stout was phenomenal. Generally, unbelievable craft beer. Especially good for very specific styles of beer that not everyone will be in love with. Been buying their beer for a long time now but I went to the brewery itself to do a pick up on Saturday. They are an order and pick up brewery only as of right now. You can order a new release on their website beginning on Wednesdays and there's a block of time to pick up on Saturday. This was the first time I did a Saturday pick up at the brewery and it was great. Very easy, convenient and safe, especially with COVID and social distancing. Employees working the drive thru line were super friendly and worked efficiently. All you have to do is pull up, show your ID and they drop your order in your car. They also have merch outside you can purchase such as hoodies and glasses. If you're looking to try some tasty, fun beers and while social distancing, this is the place for you. read more

I will caveat that we discovered this brewery after Covid closures so I can only comment on the beer we bought for pick up. We got two of their Bistro Grande beers, Blueberry Strawberry Pancakes and Peanut Butter & BlackBerry PB&J. These beers are RIDICULOUSLY sweet, even more so than their namesakes. My partner and I split a can of the PB&J between the two of us and neither could finish it. Pancakes had a nice undertone of maple syrup and wasn't as bad as the PB&J, but it still tasted like liquid cavities. These would be fantastic beers if they toned down the sweetness. I tend to like sweeter beers but these were too much even for me. read more

Amazing brewery however no taproom at this time. Every Saturday, at least for the past few months- they have a drive through pick up of beers. You pre-order online starting Wednesday at noon. Each week is different but they nail everything they make. Try any of the fruit smoothies or bistro beers. Their PB and J series is different but it works.
