Went this past Thursday and stayed for only a half hour due to the terrible smell of this place. It smells awful in there. I believe it's the carpet. It needs to be pulled up, thrown out and replaced. The bar need to be cleaned and stools need to be upholstered or replaced as well. This place is just okay. It is a very small casino. Beers are way ovepriced; local craft breweries are cheaper. We don't gamble so we went in to have a couple drinks and watch people. We have also gone to get Villa Italia desserts for a late night treat. The service at the bars is mediocre, we often have had to wait for a long time to be noticed even at an empty bar. We did however get to see a guy that was so trashed that he was on the ground on all fours outside, growling at the security and local police. He was literally rolling around and growling. If you look at my profile you cam see I frequently visit casinos and I'm quite impressed with this one. First I'd like to start with Patrick and Day at the casino's guest center. Their personalities were perfect the job. Friendly, energetic and humorous. At the tables Haylan and Frank were great. Yet we didn't win big we didn't lose either. Tammy and Sheree we're cool pit bosses that interacted with us and I can appreciate that. The decor was very modern, floor was well designed making tables, slots, restroom and cage easy to access. Nice bar areas the played good music. They only thing that qas negative was they didn't have matches upon my purchase of cigarettes. Overall I like this place and while in the area I will return tonight for my free drawing. They also said they would match my status from other casinos. I finally went to Rivers Casino in Schenectady - I was planning to go opening week, but after reading the initial reviews it was much less of a priority. I can't imagine going back again. Outside - Rivers Casino is depressing. It looks like a bland shopping mall. It is in a depressing location: the former site of the ALCO locomotive factory, a giant industrial wasteland. It is not walking distance from anything but blight. Schenectady itself is not just a dying city - it is a dead city. The casino is the only draw, but they have done literally nothing to make it inviting despite the surroundings. It is a boring, beige and yellow concrete block surrounded by nothing you would ever want to see. Inside - it is right out of the boring, mid-range casino handbook. Nothing new or interesting. Nothing innovative. Nothing specifically wrong with it, but nothing was noteworthy - the epitome of a mid-range casino, with nothing to set it apart from any other casino. Overall - It was not worth the drive from Ballston Spa (not that far away). The Racino at the Harness Track in Saratoga is a more enjoyable casino experience - especially in that when you leave you are in Saratoga Springs instead of Schenectady. The Racino does not have traditional "table gaming" with live dealers (due to some type of NY State legal prohibition) but they have electronic table games (video poker, roulette, etc) which allows you to play the same games just without live dealers. To me, the lack of live "table game" dealers is not nearly enough to tip the scales in favor of Schenectady - I very much prefer the Saratoga Racino: better building, much nicer surroundings, similar dining options, horse racing, better overall experience. I was looking forward to NY State welcoming casinos. It could have been great. Instead of allowing casinos to decide where they want to build, NY State decided the locations based on politics!!! As a result, for some reason there is a casino at the old ALCO industrial site in Schenectady. I suspect Rivers knew this was a bad idea, and they therefore did not put nearly as much money or effort into the Schenectady casino as they have at their other casinos. Essentially, this is a boring, uninspiring, mid-range casino surrounded by urban decay. read more

"Dress for the job you want". I think the Rivers Casino Took this advice to heart when deciding minimums during the week for table games. I went to this casino during opening week and refrained from reviewing it because I have never found that first week, or in this case, first day reviews are very accurate. Well, I could have saved time on my second visit if I had just reviewed this casino on the very first day because it really didn't change much. A friend and I stopped by the casino on a Tuesday for a drink and some fun. The drinks were super expensive, but I was prepared for that since it is a casino. However, the fact that there were no five dollar blackjack tables open was a telltale sign that they either don't want many people to visit, or don't want regular people to come in and try out their product. And, I don't mean that they were full. I literally mean that no five dollar minimum tables were there. Even the big Las Vegas casinos have five dollar tables during the week. Maybe I have a different perspective coming from the West Coast, but casinos usually have lower table minimums to invite new people to participate, learned the games, and ultimately give away their hard earned money. Rivers didn't make their place engaging enough for me to leave much money behind. In the end, unless you are a hard-core gambler with a huge big roll, find something else to do on a Tuesday night. read more

Roulette dealers are generally good but often get told to slow roll or speed spin and it's annoying. Pit bosses are hit or miss. Crowd is generally pretty bad, a few bad seeds ruin it. I'm giving it 4/5 stars because if you want to have fun there you will. You just need to avoid the rough crowd, annoying pit bosses and dealers who aren't on your side. read more

Preamble: Look at my other reviews. I am more than fair, and more positive than most. I realize what a less-than-positive review entails for a business, so with that said, here's my experience. 1 star is generous. And I actually won a couple of dollars too. I've been to casinos all across this country, and several international casinos as well. And for the first time in my casino-going life, I left speechless. It took me a few days to put together the words, so here it goes. Several of the blackjack dealers lack the ability to count. On one hand, the dealer was showing a 10. I am dealt a 9 and a 6. I motioned for a card, and the dealer goes, "Are you sure you want to hit that?" I asked, "Yes, why?" She then says, "Cause you got 19." After about 20 seconds arguing and trying to explain that 9 and 6 equals 15, she says, "I can't let you hit 19 without mentioning it to my floor." To those who are unaware, hitting 19 (a winning hand) could signify card counting, so a dealer will shout it out to a pit boss. I hit and got a 9, which means I broke, as my hand totaled 24. She looked at me and said, "28 is too much. You shoulda stayed." Wow. I couldn't sit at the table for more than 10 minutes. I felt like I was infringing on Gang Members Night Out. I even heard this fantastic line, from one thug to another thug: "Yo sen, dat craps table bah, took my money bah. Dem dice was rigged. Sh**. If I don't win mah money back they gone put my a** back in jail for dat child support." WHAT LANGUAGE IS THIS MORON SPEAKING? AND WHY DOES EVERYONE AROUND ME ALSO SPEAK IT? WHY AM I HEARING IT EVERYWHERE I GO IN THIS CASINO? I then go to get a slice of pizza. I am given a slice of pizza that looked like it was submersed in water for two years. Soggy. Looked like soup. At this point, I just paid for it, got my change, dumped the pizza soup in the garbage, and left. I could take no more. A casino is supposed to be fun: a place for adults to go and hang out: drink, gamble, socialize, and have fun IN A SAFE, PLEASANT ENVIRONMENT. Rivers is anything but. Was the casino well-intentioned? I believe it was. But the execution here is so, so flawed. Just painful. I was really excited when I heard it was going to open, and once I was there, it just turned to misery. In the event center on Wednesday, they've been doing a Seafood Buffet and a Italian Buffet. This was the second time they did the Seafood Buffet. 26.00 per person. Discount for Seniors. This time, first come first serve. It runs from 3-9pm. I am such a Seafood lover I just had to go. Still in shock with the amount of Seafood available. First off, my opinion reservations could control the crowd and wait times. I got there at 2:30. Maybe 40 people ahead of me. A hostess came out at 2:55 and asked if anyone had reservations. The crowd immediately get agitated since we were told no reservations will be taken. The manager said a few "offers" were given out earlier. As soon as we were seated, our server greeted us. Cash bar available or soda & coffee included. When you paid, you had the opportunity to tip, which I did. I asked our server how that worked since our table number wasn't given to us until we waited to be seated, and after we paid. She said, they pool the tips. Some do leave it on the table. Next time I will leave it on the table cause she was excellent!! How could you complain for 26.00? Where do you see Lobster tails on a Buffet. The king crab were huge. The Seafood salad was incredible. So was the tuna. What a bang for your buck! Let's face it too, the dessert table was from Villa Italia. Inside the casino for a coffee, And a pastry runs over 10 bucks. Sure, I really wished the shrimp cocktail had been cooked in lemons or ginger water, or old bay in the boil but come on people, 26.00!!! I can't see how they can keep this up for 26.00. They ran two long tables that clearly had service from both sides. From seafood and pasta dishes to cold shrimp mussels and crab legs, seafood salad, smoked fish salad, fried calamari and fried clams, fish & chips, and corn & potatoes. I saw one roast beef dish which was really good, and plenty of choices. They didn't cut corners, and offered SEAFOOD. Not pasta with a few shrimp and call it a Seafood Buffet. This was Seafood!! And plenty of it! The ocean called...., On a sad note I noticed a well dressed gentleman packing his shopping bag full of food. I was totally bothered by this. He was sneaking so much food into his bag that I felt compelled to tell the hostess. She seemed not interested. I felt annoyed. I'll bet you he had at least 10 pounds of seafood and a few pounds of pastries in that bag. That's just a shame . Over all, I enjoyed the service, the price, and the huge selection. My husband and I are regular gamblers. We've been to Las Vegas, Foxwoods, and Mohegan Sun several times. We enjoy craps and the slot machines so we were very excited about a real casino finally coming to our area. We went on a Saturday night of a holiday weekend and, honestly, expected the worst because we had both heard mixed reviews about this place. However, I'm glad to say that we were pleasantly surprised: 1) Its SUPER easy to get to. My husband and I live in Latham so we took River Road to Nott Road which took us right to the casino. 2) Parking is free. There is a surface lot as well as a garage. We parked in the garage and there was ample spaces for a busy Saturday night. We took the elevator down and it lets you off right on the gaming floor. Doesn't get any easier than that! 3) Make sure to get your players card before you start gambling. My husband and I each got $10 in free slot play just for signing up. If you're a regular gambler then you know the benefits of having one of these. :) 4) I had heard that the drinks here were really expensive. I ordered a Grey Goose (vodka) and seltzer for $7.00. I don't think this is bad at all considering that Grey Goose is top shelf and I've paid almost double that for drinks at other casinos. 5) I had heard that the minimum table bet for a weekend night was $20. This is not true. There were 3 craps tables running - one of them had a minimum of $15 but the other two were a minimum of $10. My husband and I had no problem finding a place at one of the $10 tables. It was just crowded enough to make it fun but not so crowded that you were brushing up against the guy next to you. The minimum bets apparently increase at 11:00pm because we were at the table after 10:00pm and one of the dealers mentioned this. I don't know how much they increase because my husband and I took our winnings and left. :) 6) I had also heard that the crowd here can be a bit seedy. I have to say that I did not see this. It was a mixture of all kinds of people and everyone we conversed with was friendly. There is security present and I even saw a Schenectady police officer milling around so it appears as though they have things under control. 7) Its small, but not too small. Its basically one huge room. There are food venues, two bars, and a place for a band. I would say its just the right size with plenty of space for all. 8) The only CON I have is that, unlike every other casino I've been to, you DO NOT get served free alcohol if you are gambling. This really stinks considering all the money you're spending. This is the only reason why I didn't give this place 5 stars. Bottom line - Don't let the negative reviews on here scare you away. I will NEVER be back to this casino. I was so excited to visit a new casino, drove 2.5 hours away from home just to have the worst possible experience. The casino asks you to show ID prior to entering the casino area including all bars and restaurants. I am 25 and have a CT license and was not allowed in. Their system flagged my ID, but it is a very valid 25 year old drivers license. I have had it scanned by TSA in 3 different airports within the last month. I've had this license for less than 1 year and it expires in 2025. There is no damage to it and nothing wrong with it, or I hope TSA would've caught that. I offered multiple forms of secondary ID including a picture of my passport, a W2, 2 credit cards, a vaccine card, mobile bank statements, insurance cards, mortgage statements, etc. and the security supervisor told me that she did not care about any of these because I am under 30 and I had no possible way to get in. She was incredibly rude and not willing to offer any solutions. I offered to call the police to have them scan my license and show it was real - she said she does not care if they show it's real because she will not let me in. I have never experienced someone in a customer service position who was so rude and unhelpful. After this horrible interaction I walked away tearing up and the front desk workers were kind enough to ask what's wrong. When I explained the situation they attempted to call for help but there was nothing they could do. They suggested we try the scanners at the other door just to see if it worked - this women mocked me when I went to try. She said "oh I heard you went to the front desk" while laughing at me not being able to get in. While over there one security guard even said I know this is not a fake ID but there is nothing I can do. Clearly this was the result of a faulty software system and security supervisor on a power trip. I saw multiple google reviews detailing the same kind of issues so this is clearly a systemic issue this casino faces. I would not recommend coming to this casino under any circumstances - you will not be treated well, and if you happen to be under 30 bring 5 types of identification just to be sure. Luckily my boyfriend was able to bring me food so I didn't starve - it was not good. The only positive of this trip was a cute wine bar down the road named the shaker and wine - loved it!! One of the most unprofessional and abrasive staffs I have ever encountered in my life. For a city that is as in such despair as this area of NY one would expect much much better. Incomplete and downright awful on every possible level. Stay away from this place. The food is awful, the service horrible and the atmosphere of a dive bar. This place should swiftly be run out of business and the board of health needs to take a close look at this place. The events center and staff at Rivers is wonderful! I got married here in August and originally was skeptical about getting married at a casino. My worries quickly disappeared as soon as I met Amanda and her team. They were so accommodating and easy to work with and made planning and the day of a breeze. The banquet space can easily get blocked off to be more private. Manny and Michael checked in on us multiple times during the events to make sure everything was running perfectly. We were extremely happy with how everything went and cannot say enough good things. read more

Definitely a fun place to visit while in town. Atmosphere always seems all right. Every time I am there, I enjoy myself. The staff is on point, polite and mindful of the patrons that are in the facility. Just be sure..., to try not to spend too much money, because it can be addicting (in my Grandma voice lol !) The folks in the casino's Chinese restaurant were quite nice, but the portions and the prices were out of whack. A similar meal is 75% cheaper at the typical Chinese restaurant. No salad bar is a huge issue. Some customers actually want to eat healthy or have to eat healthy due to health issues. If you fall into one of those two categories, bring your own food here or you will have to go hungry. Denied entry bc apparently someone in my group stumbled. I accidentally dumped my wallet when trying to get my id. They id every time you go in the casino. Which is fine whatever they're doing their job. But we paid for our king room bc it was my bday and we're parents and wanted a night out. We pay for the drinks at the bar, obviously gambling, and then the room and they deny someone who tried to help me clean up all the change that fell out of my wallet. The manager and one of the coworkers saw everything and even told us they don't know why we're being denied. We have a guess but not going to say it on here. Very disappointed with this place. Never have had an issue at the casino in Saratoga. I guess we will be taking business there instead of this very disrespectful establishment. It was our first time in the area and we found this place by chance as it was right next to our hotel. This is definitely the local hang out, everyone we met was a regular going there 3-5x a week which still blows my mind. Staff/dealers were super friendly which we appreciated however It's nearly impossible to win - there are no tables with hand dealers. If you're looking for a bit of entertainment and cheap drinks ($6 cocktails) check it out but keep the expectations at a minimum. read more

We visit Rivers every couple of weeks. I play slots and my friend plays blackjack. It has the potential to be a real nice casino, but misses the mark. I find the staff " ok" but nowhere near as accommodating as in Atlantic City. We play quite abit and the comps are next to nothing. Dining choices are limited. The Asian restaurant was almost inedible, just terrible, Dukes is good, not great but good. I'd suggest comping drinks at machines too. Improve the service and restaurants and you may have a winner. read more

I decided to give this place a visit, especially all the review I've see on yelp regarding on this Casino. Here are my thoughts on this place: 1) the Decor inside the casino isn't bad as people claim it. It's very bright and the layout is very simple, it doesn't look like a maze nor spread out. 2) it is true some of the dealers are new and not very familiar of the games as well being slow on dealing. kind of ruin the excitement on the table. Some of the dealers does need some more training. 3) I personally have not tried the food, therefore I cannot comment on it. The beverage server does come around but not as frequent, every 10 - 15 minute the server would come. 4) the slots, I am unable to comment since I didn't get a chance to play with the machine. 5) the exterior does seem like it is still under construction, so I would give them about another year to see some more improvements. 6) the minimum bet on the table games are $10 ( came in on a Thursday evening), meanwhile the high limit is up to $50 ( definitely a difficult area to win money) 7) overall, experience it was bad as people claim it to be. There are some improvement that the casino need to do but everything does take time. It would be nice if the casino offer more table games than what they are offering now. They should offer Spanish 21, Texas hold'em, single deck blackjack as well as offer some table without having machine shuffle the cards. Went to their New Year's Eve celebration last night. After spending $50 a person for their show, which wasn't really great, we had to wait in line at least 30 minutes to get a drink. Shouldn't have to do that when paying for a show! They need more bars open for a venue like this. The champagne was awful too. They probably paid very little for it. As for slot gambling, the penny machines are not really that. You can't make a reasonable max line bet on them. The Machines are disorganized , hard to find a machine you might want to play. I heard there was this fancy new casino here in NY - well maybe its fancy if you've never been to a real casino. Very limited entertainment For a small mostly empty casino I would like to see a few table games with low minimums like a $5 blackjack during the day - I get it if they place is hopping at night and you want to up the stakes, but when you have 3 empty tables drop it a bit, and at least get me to sit down. Food options are either a steakhouse - which is on the mildly expensive side. Or a food court thats so small and limited I didn't want to sit that close to anyone while I was eating. The thing that really disappointed me was the not super friendly service, lack of entertainment, and it seems this is catering more towards the geriatric community. Granted I was visiting Wednesday - Friday but even the casinos in CT make sure there is enough going on to keep some life in the room. But for what it is....its fine. they have all the table games...minimums are pretty low...tons of slots. Its not attractive from the outside..inside its new and pretty spiffy. Guy at the Rewards desk was super friendly...I sensed the dealers and pit bosses were robotic and bored. Its not a destination location..so most players seem to be locals from the area. I'm told they charge for drinks at the tables.. i told you this wasn't Vegas. Blackjack tables have that never ending shuffle machine which I hate...hit on soft 17...there is no local competition so they can do what they want. if all you desire is a spot to gamble at....its three stars...A-OK. read more
