I've really been debating leaving this review because I did enjoy the painting (for the most part)…read more We (my husband and I) went for the very first time a couple weeks ago to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We made reservations ahead of time and when we got there they were assigning tables to sit at. We got shown out table and then we got moved. We were shown the other places to sit so we started looking for the pieces we were going to paint. We returned to the table and another lady started telling us to move again, we would be better off sitting somewhere else. So now we've been moved twice and we end up at a table with little kids who have zero interest in painting. They are on their phones and pushing/knocking the table and my husband and I are having to stop continuously so our painting doesn't get messed up (it did when the kid hit the table and we needed assistance fixing the piece-and we complained at that time). I should note-when we first arrived we told them we were celebrating our anniversary (they asked) and we were told "oh, you need to do a tile!." We didn't think anything of it at that time. When we were almost finished painting the plate we had picked out, a tile was brought over to us. We never asked for it and honestly forgot all about it. It was given to us and we were told to enjoy it. We finally finished the plate and tile so we brought them up to the front. There, we were charged for the tile we never asked for and to be perfectly honest had zero interest in doing - we didn't even put much effort into painting it because at that point we wanted to get out of there. The girl checking us out had no desire to follow up on it so we left, mad. I was told "give us 2 weeks" for the pieces to be ready. No other instructions. So I go yesterday to pick up the pieces -2 weeks and 3 days later. I walk in and tell the desk I'm here to pick them up. "Did you call first?" Ummmm, no, I wasn't told to do that and it's been longer than the 2 weeks. Then she can't find my stuff in the computer, both by phone # and name. I tell her the date we were there and she has to go find the actual paper slip. Then she can't find the pieces and there are now 2 people looking for the items. They finally find them after about 10 minutes of me standing stupidly at the front. Did I enjoy the actual painting? Yes Did I enjoy the overall experience? No Was the customer service good? Not great Will we go back? Probably not, I might give them a 2nd try by my husband will definitely not.

Anyway, I came here this morning for the Total Barre class and it was a very good workout! The teacher, Stephanie, explained things well and the pace of the class was good for beginners and for those with more muscle. I enjoyed that it combined aspects of ballet and pilates to make the class a challenging workout. I will be trying Stephanie's Pilates mat class on Wed morning! Also, the class's studio is large brightly light, with wall mirrors, sprung wood flooring and all the accessories you can imagine. The actual facility is decorated like a little feminine fairy-tale with lots of purples, pinks, stars, and tutus!

So beforehand, we went to the concession stand for Tazo teas and a cookie to share. FYI The place is run all by volunteers. The acoustics in the main stage performance area are great. The seats were comfortable also. It was a wonderful show! We both said that we would come back to TCAN if we saw another artist scheduled who we were interested in.

We brought in platters of food and adult beverages, then sat at our easels and followed her instructions. Each attendee has a canvas on a wooden stretcher, brushes, and acrylic paints on a paper plate palette. Irina provides the smocks. So easy to plan and execute a wonderful, memorable evening. Most of their classes are in the Newton area. They hold social dances throughout the area and travel to teach nationally. They also sponsor internationally -known instructors to come and teach workshops locally. Hop to the Beat is also well known for BeanTown, a week-long Lindy Hop swing dance camp they put on every summer in the Boston area. I have attended BeanTown twice, and thoroughly enjoyed it both times. They bring in great, internationally-known instructors, and make sure your food and accommodations enhance your intensive, albeit very enoyable dance week. The nightly dances go into the wee hours, and you meet fellow campers from around the world (last year, 26 states and 10 countries were represented).
