This is a quiet little cottage resort that has really clean and comfortable rooms. Breakfast is a buffet that u pay for. Save the $19 and get a muffin somewhere. They do have a restaurant that is really good. The service is outstanding. They work together really well to make sure u always have water, coffee or tea. They also offer a shuttle to and from the airport. I definitely would recommend this place. read more

What's your definition of resort? This place does not meet my definition. Problem / issue continues. Under supplied rooms (not enough towels or tp) window screens missing or bent so they don't keep out mosquitoes so can't use outside cool air, loud ac units, loud fans in rooms, no hot water in sink, facility is not well maintained. Weeds and overgrowth everywhere. Shower squeaks. Granted the pros are it's by the river and staff are quite nice. I would stay at the Hampton inn down the street if I were to come up here again. read more

Pretty easy to find- GPS wanted me to turn into the RV Park, but I followed the road a little further and found the turn in to the Cottages. Booked 2 1/2 months early on the Rivers Edge site and called day of arrival to confirm. When I arrived, they had not booked us in a Riverfront Cottage as reserved, but a Garden Cottage. They did their best to make it right. *Note: Riverfront Cottage #12 does not have a patio that looks at the river as the others do. But, we were able to bring our patio chair around. This one does have a cute, kind-of hidden walkway that blocks the door and patio from other cottages. Ours had shampoo, conditioner, and soap provided. Dark Roast coffee provided. No napkins though and I didn't want to use their white towels to wipe up around the coffee area, so I used Kleenex we brought. Wifi pretty fast. Delicious burgers at Chena Grill! read more

I called resort and book a waterfront cottage for TWO nights for July 16 and July 17, 2023. We have been traveling (from CA to AK thru Canada) for weeks and we're looking forward to relaxing by the Chena River. The incompetent and young staff booked us ONE night and forced us to leave on Monday because they were sold out. Not even willing to wait for a possible cancellation. Never happened in my life after decades of traveling. Completely unacceptable! Young people need more training and supervision. read more

Had a great experience here. The units are stand alones so you don't hear noise from neighbors. You can park your car in front of the unit, so it's like a mini home away from home. By no means are units new, so if you are looking for super clean new looking rooms, these are not for you. It's very conveniently located near the airport and shopping. The room has a fridge and microwave oven for those wanting to take home food from a restaurant to eat later. Definitely recommend. read more

The name Rivers Edge is a joke unless you happen to get one of the half-dozen cottages that actually overlook the river. Our room "overlooks" the highway. The "patio" is the size of a postage stamp and backed by a hedge, so the only views are right and left down the rows of other patios (see photos). The rooms are dinky and there is little closet space. And, as someone else described, although we were booked for two nights, the hotel claimed we were booked for only one night and wanted us to check out on the first day. Luckily the Alaska Railroad, which had booked our room, was able to straighten that out, but thank goodness we hadn't left the room yet or else we might have come back to find our stuff out on the sidewalk. Breakfast is $20/a head and totally not worth it. When we arrived at the train station, even though we told the van driver that we were two couples, the van driver filled the van with people from a completely different hotel as a favor to some other fan driver, and left our friends behind. All in all, not a great experience. read more

This hotel/resort has the potential to be nice but the management staff is terrible. The GM, Lisa, and others at the top level are very unfriendly and not hospitable. The working staff tried to be friendly and do their jobs well but were limited by management. The on site restaurant, Alaskan Chena Grill, was excellent with well trained friendly staff. The food was great. This hotel/resort lives on the gravy train of the cruise lines that bring passengers to Fairbanks and basically dumps them without transportation to any local sites. read more

Friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are really cute and comfortable. They have a shuttle service that will take you to a few destinations with nice drivers. Would have liked if the shuttle would go to the Pump House as regular stop (they will if they have availability) because this restaurant is not too far, and is a well spoken-about hot spot. The location is excellent. The cabins were well maintained and comfortable enough. The daytime desk staff were very friendly. I never slept a minute during my two nights there. There was a thin door connecting my room to the next. The other guest blared his TV all night both nights. I knocked on his door repeatedly and no one answered. I went to the desk to ask for assistance several times. Finally at 3 am I was told that they could call the room and ask that the TV be turned down, but they could not open the door to the cabin to ask if he didn't answer the door. I heard them call but the phone went unanswered. After the second night when I complained to the desk they said he was checking out that day == too late for me. If he had health problems causing this, and went unchecked, he could have died. The night desk clerk's response to not even look is irresponsible at best, and potentially dangerous. And, of course, I started my trip with a bad experience that did not have to happen. read more

We arrived to Fairbanks about a week ago, and I didn't reserve any hotels prior to coming. I heard places get booked quickly during the Summer, but I had no idea it was going to be as crazy as it was! After calling hotel after hotel, everything was either booked for months or way beyond our price range. Then I found this place on Travelocity! I could not believe this place wasn't fully booked yet! You have an option to have a room at the main hotel, or a private cottage (garden view or river view) What!? Price was beyond reasonable, it seemed too good to be true. The employees are great and I LOVE the privacy! My husband and I had our 6yr old, 4yr old and 9mo old children with us, so not having to worry about letting others hear my baby cry, the kids running in the room, or any other noise bothering neighbors, was great! My son also developed an infection due to his eczema and had medication that needed to be refrigerated. There's no fridge in the room, but I called the front desk and they have mini fridges specifically for medications that they can lend you during your stay! I'd 100% recommend this to EVERYONE looking for a place to stay! read more

I wanted to give a current review. All of the previous reviews and pictures are still current! My family and I loved this place!!! Trina could not have been more helpful and kind. I had reserved accommodations elsewhere at what I thought was a hotel online and when we arrived it was horrible. I will review that one separately. I looked online and called this place. Trina gave me great directions and a late check in. Then she helped us find a great place to eat since we arrived after the Chena restaurant was closed for the evening. Cottages are clean and cozy! Do yourself a favor and book here! I'm sure the RV park next door is just as lovely. Location is close to highway and places to visit. We would definitely stay here again!! read more

The hotel lobby looked ok, our room was attached to another room and the voice separation was bad. But there are only a few rooms that are attached to other rooms, so if you don't want to hear other people snoring or don't want other people to hear you, make sure you book the independent cottage rooms. They looked nice from the outside. The breakfast buffet was not good, not recommended. Overall, hotel is fine, just don't get rooms attached to other rooms. read more

Cute, clean, quaint on the edge of the river with a slider in the back of the cottage to the outside but two things would keep me from wanting to stay here again. There isn't enough closet or bathroom space, there actually isn't a closet, only about a two foot rod in the room. I was the only girl with 3 boys and still the bathroom area was too small and very uncomfortable. The actual bathroom (toilet & shower) had a max 30 min. timer for the light which scared my youngest when he was left in the dark once his time was up. Then trying to do my hair at the sink when someone was in the bathroom I kept hitting their door. Even when it was open it was still getting in the way. A shame really because everything else including the restaurant on site was really very good. The housekeeping staff extremely friendly as well as the shuttle driver. If you don't mind those two things it's a great place to stay. Oh, and the curtains do let a bit of light through but not much and it didn't bother anyone in our family. read more

I stayed here for three nights at the end of June. The little cottages lined up along the riverfront are definitely different than what I'm used to, but the whole format grew on me considerably during my stay. The room/cottage was a comfortable size, and it was cleaned each day. I liked having a little patio out back, except the mosquitoes were oppressive (not the fault of River's Edge). Thank goodness the room had air-conditioning, because our trip to Fairbanks coincided with a ridiculous heat wave! It would have been nice if the room had a little refrigerator. The front desk staff was really nice and very responsive whenever we had questions. The bus drivers who picked us up from the airport and the Riverboat Discovery and who dropped us off at the train station were all very polite and punctual. read more

loved this little place - clean, spacious independent little cabins. My cabin had nice sitting table, tv, small patio with table and chairs out front. We were also parked less that 20 feed from door - nice when lugging suitcases. One can walk along the river - You can somewhat hear the highway - but really not bad just felt I had to mention. Front desk had area to sit - business center (one computer). Vending machines available without too bad prices (Please skip the extra pay buffet breakfast. We stayed at the River Edge for 3 nights although not consecutively. I like that the rooms are separate from each other so you can't hear your neighbors. For the first 2 nights, we stayed in a room closer to the airport so we could hear the planes took off. The 3rd night, we stayed in a room closer to the reception office so it was a lot quieter. The staff here is friendly. The rooms that we stayed in were cleaned and the bed was comfortable. There is also a coin laundry facility in the RV park. Since we were going on a trip to Prudhoe Bay and would return in a couple of days, they allowed us to store our luggage there as we couldn't take more than 15 pounds per person on the trip. The only downside is that it is a little bit of a way from downtown so we used the Airlink shuttle to get around. read more

My family of 4 had a very comfortable stay in one of the cottages, and a delicious dinner at nearby Chena's Alaskan Grill. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Stayed here for one night this past week. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable. The setting along the river with the little cottages was quite charming. The CONS were that the internet wouldn't connect. They apparently have WI-FI but it would never connect when I selected it. The other disappointment was the buffet breakfast was pretty awful and horribly overpriced. I highly recommend you go elsewhere for breakfast. We were also a little disappointed in the location of our cottage. There were obviously many vacant cottages, yet we were put in this one right next to the restaurant that was wedged between three other cottages. I could've complained but stuck with it and it wasn't all that bad since it was one night. read more

FIVE STARS FOR SURE: We stayed in cottage 403 for the night of July 16th. The cottage was fine, quiet, and a short walk to the river. We had an excellent meal at their restaurant, Chena's Alaskan Grill, that night. It was on-again, off-again rainy, and by accident I left my jacket in the restaurant, not noticing until we were miles and miles away at Denali. I called both the restaurant and the resort to ask if they had found the jacket (they had) and if it could be sent to my home if I provided a credit card number. It took a couple of people and phone calls, but Front Desk Manager Lisa Chamberlin [sorry, i'm not sure of her last name..], pulled it off! The jacket was waiting for me when we came home to California on July 31st. We also appreciated being able to use the coin laundromat in the next-door RV park. BUT ONE STAR AT BEST: We were astonished at how very bad the breakfast buffet was. On our entire 31-day road trip, and this was one of the only 2 bad breakfasts . NO compliments at all on this NON-complimentary breakfast. The young woman who took our money when we went in was like a zombie. No smiles or eye contact at all either in her cashier role or when she despondently walked around the room later while we and others were eating. Occasionally picking something up but mostly standing and staring at who knows what with her hands behind her back. A young many joined her in similar non-human presentation at one point. Another man, who turned out to be the "chef," sat at another table with a child and a woman--perhaps his family. We were surprised that he got up at one point, lifted the lids each of the terrible egg and sausage containers and audibly expressed surprise--perhaps at how bad these even looked. We were surprised too. Then he went back to the kitchen. Hard to understand how such a bad meal and terribly unfriendly wait people could be part of this otherwise impressive lodge/cottage place. read more

This place is only getting 2 stars bec it's cute outside and the man that welcomed us in the wee hours this morning. It's old but has a clean shower and a comfortable bed. The windows were broke and wouldn't open, the a/c Unit was broken and it was hot and stuffy. My hubby had been up and in airports since 4am and checked in around 7pm,but my flight got delayed due to my ticket being a stand by ticket so I was in the airport from 4am to 9, yes 17 hours and had not slept at all so my getting here around 1am this morning I crashed and was thankful to lay down! Anyway, 8:30am a young man kept banging on the door for a good 10 minutes before I realized it could be my hubby forgetting his key so I get up to being asked if we check out today. RUDE! DO NOT BOTHER YOUR GUESTS! Check out is 11:00 so check on them around 10am if you feel the need to BOTHER them!!!!! We leave at 11am and a lady and a young girl staff are talking while another young girl helps the customer. Why aren't these 2 talking helping us? BAD SERVICE! Then after the young girl finishes the customer she turns to join the other 2 talkers. NO THEY WEREN'T TALKING BUSINESS. Finally, the girl who helped the previous customer acknowledges my hubby and did it without anything but "last name?" "You're checking out?" Literally, no hi, good morning, thank you, nothing!!!!! We will stay elsewhere when we return every 6 months or less. I highly suggest you avoid this place. read more

We stayed here in August. Took all the tours offered through River's Edge. They offer a quick buffet breakfast and have a nice restaurant for lunch & dinner. We loved our cottage on the side of the river. Hiked up to a nearby grocery store, shopped at the Great Alaskan Bowl Co., then ate our lunch outside on our patio. Laundramat is available at their RV park next door. We recommend River's Edge as a nice alternative to the many lodges you'll be staying at in Alaska. read more

Loved the little cabin/cottage on the river! We walked in without a reservation and we were able to stay in this cozy cabin. There is a sliding glass door to the patio which is on the grassy river front. Very relaxing. The restaurant was extremely busy- And, after tasting the food, we realized why. We are staying here due to the Norwegian Cruise Line putting us here for the ground tour of Alaska. This resort is very disappointing - poorly maintained with old furniture and bedding, property is lackluster, and food is only fair. For the price we paid NCL for this tour they should be ashamed for putting its customers at this resort. read more

This was lots of promise with little payoff. I was honestly so excited to come visit and stay the night here after reading the reviews and looking at all the other lodging options Fairbanks had to offer. However, when I arrived it was at peak check-in hour, (3pm) and there was a bus load of tourists arriving at the same time which made the wait very long. After a long day on the road with my husband and 7 month old baby, waiting so long was not a welcoming way to arrive. The lady checking us in could not tell if our room was ready via "their system" so she had to physically go to the room to find out, leaving us waiting longer. It was ready, which was lucky because those around us were having to wait longer. Once we arrived to our river-front cottage, the place had an odd strong smell. The cottage interior looked very much like the pictures online. The outside did not. I thought there was a deck on the river, but there's a cement slab that had one broken plastic lawn chair. There's also a waking path between the cottage and the river, so lots of through traffic. Not a lot of privacy. The highway was very close to our cottage and the restaurant, running over the river and was it busy and loud. The restaurant is only open during meal times (5pm) so we weren't able to get a refreshment or appetizer once we were settled. We did sit out back for a while and were enjoying the sun as our baby napped, and then were very much startled by a field mouse who ran up my husbands leg while on the cement slab!! Be sure to keep doors closed!!! Not our favorite place to stay on this drive across Alaska, unfortunately. read more

I stayed at the RV Park for three nights and the hotel for one night and dined at the restaurant twice, thus gave Rivers Edge a two vs. a one. The RV park was fine, what you would expect. The restaurant food was good, but the server would constantly rush you through your meal and you hardly had time to finish your first drink. The hotel was clean, but the Internet was down with no chance of recovery during my stay and after I was told there was an airport shuttle my flight was prior to their operating hours. The receptionist confirmed the hotel would call and pay for my cab, but when I tried to arrange it early morning there was no one working the front desk for 30 minutes and I had to call one myself. read more
