Dr. Rivers is an excellent dentist. She replaced a filling for me and I did not feeling any pain, not even when she did the anesthesia injection. She paused and allowed me to rest my jaw during the treatment and was continually asking if I was doing ok. I have a dental back ground and the dentist that did the filling the first time, just 3 months earlier, left a space between the teeth which packed with food every time I ate. I asked my sister to go see Dr. Rivers before she did what another dentist recommended, which was to have one of her teeth extracted. New to the area so selected from internet this dentist. Had what I thought was a serious problem with a tooth and needed immediate care. Feel very fortunate to have found Rivers Dental and specifically Dr Lynda Nguyen. Very professional and caring. Managed to save that tooth and was impressed to watch her work process. ***You have been warned. It takes a lot for a business to make me mad enough to sit down and write a review.*** They added a $30 toothpaste on the first visit. (No, that is not a typo. You can buy a tube of toothpaste for $3 at the grocery store, but they charge ten times that for their special dentist toothpaste.) The receptionist "forgot" to apply a new patient discount at the end of the second visit until I said something about the total. I called in July asking about insurance and was told they take PPO (conveniently the most expensive dental insurance option) only to be informed after filing a grievance claim with Delta Dental this month that Dr. Nguyen is not in network as the front desk staff stated. Rivers Family Dentistry has continually shown and made it blatantly obvious that the establishment prioritizes profits over patients, even going to the extent of violating the No Surprises Act that was put into effect last year. They have ignored multiple email requests for the correct statement sent over two weeks' time. Tracy, the financial coordinator, failed to call back at the time I said I was available on 11/21/23, and made a poorly veiled attempt to save face on Monday. The balance was magically removed after our conversation, but this does not rectify the distress, wasted time, or misinformation communicated to me back in the summer, which is why this review stands. It is time they learned a long overdue lesson: it is not a dental office's job to squeeze every penny they can out of patients. You messed with the wrong person. I have plenty of connections in Bryan/College Station, many of whom have asked for dentist recommendations. I originally had an appointment for a different dentistry and upon reading reviews for them, I got uncomfortable. I then saw Rivers Dentistry and immediately called to make an appointment. I have been in pain in my gums above a couple teeth, they listened to my concerns and scheduled me an appointment but didn't have an a available appointment until the 23rd, I agreed to take it because of all the amazing reviews. The receptionist also let me know she put my on the list for when they have cancellations, so I could possibly get in sooner. They had a cancellation and I was able to get in today at 10 am! The appointment was amazing! I haven't been to a dentist in over ten years and was really hesitant, as soon as I walked in I felt at home. They were very thorough and upfront, I am so excited to get my teeth and oral health back on track with Rivers. I also don't have insurance and their prices are very fair. I dreaded starting over with a new dentist after a string of sub-par experiences but I am glad that I made the switch as Dr. Rivers fixed me right up the day I came in. I called Dr. River's office today and spoke with Cherie. I asked if they were in network with Guardian insurance. She then had what I believe is a scripted response. She told me "they work with all insurances". Unfortunately working with all insurances is not the same as being in network. For in network providers my insurance covers 100% for preventive care. For providers that are not in network I would have had a portion of the bill that would have been patient responsibility. River's Family Dentistry tried to pull a fast one over on me. What is most disturbing is that this is a college town and young people are learning the hard way. Beware of this practice! read more
