Our experience at the Hemet DMV was deeply disappointing, marked by hostility, systemic unfairness, and blatant bullying toward my 16-year-old daughter. After an initial scheduling error, a kind supervisor (Sheila) allowed my daughter to take her scheduled driving test following the lunch break. Unfortunately, the positive experience ended there. None of the staff members we interacted with wore name badges. Once the test began, I left my phone in the vehicle recording audio for safety reasons. Less than five minutes later, my daughter returned to the lobby in tears. She had been failed almost immediately. When I politely approached the examiner to understand the parameters of the test so we could better prepare, the examiner immediately became aggressive and raised her voice, questioning me with, "Why did you ask for a supervisor?" The examiner falsely claimed that a driver could go up to 10 mph over the speed limit without failing, but going under was an automatic fail--contradicting the DMV's own official handbook guidelines. As a 6'6" African American male, I recognized the immediate hostility and dynamic, yet I kept my composure and asked for the examiner's name. She refused to give it and walked away. When I tried to speak to the second supervisor on duty to seek clarification, I was repeatedly dismissed with, "I don't get what you don't understand" and told that nothing would change. The most disturbing part came when I listened back to the audio recorded in the vehicle during the test: * The examiner immediately began the test with hostility, snapping at my daughter and asking, "Why did you ask for a supervisor?" * The examiner then stated, "We shouldn't be doing this exam anyway, you don't have an appointment." * When my daughter slowed down (to 23 mph in a 35 mph zone) because pedestrians on the curb appeared ready to jaywalk--a realistic safety measure in that area--the examiner snapped at her, dismissed the hazard, and immediately instructed her to pull back into the DMV parking lot to fail her. My 16-year-old daughter was target of retaliation simply because we requested supervisory help to resolve an administrative issue. The hostility, lack of accountability, and unfair treatment she faced was unacceptable. We will never step foot in this location again. Parents and young drivers beware: the unprofessionalism and bias at this branch are severe.

Within minutes 6 patrol cars were dispatched and headed my way. Luckily, while I was still on the phone with 911, my son called to tell me he ended up coming home from being out of town. I informed the dispatcher and she stayed on the phone with me as I confirmed it was him. She called off the cars and one officer still came to check to make sure everything was fine. There is was suggested to visit the Orange Coast Railway Museum, which is in Perris. After our time at OCRM, we wanted to see what downtown Perris was about, figuring there would be some historic buildings and possible restaurant choices. Indeed, there were some of both, but there was some disjointedness about it all. As a first-time visitor, unfamiliar with the Pettis Valley, I learned that there are long-time families that settled in about a century ago. Many still have current generations, and surely advocate for the area. There are some newer, large developments with some flair. There are also remnants of former glory, like an old movie theater building which is still standing, but unrestored. We ultimately didn't stop and walk around, as nothing caught our attention. We ended up going to the Perris Airport instead to eat and watch the skydivers. My impression of Perris in general is that it's a city not necessarily flourishing at this time of high employment, which would mean a bad scenario during a future economic downturn. This is not a place to find softening touches like flower baskets hanging from lampposts. Am not sure what economic engines drive the area, but they haven't made an emphasis on community beautification on a wide scale with the available monies. That being said, my photos remind me that there are coordinated plantings of palms and other trees downtown. Being in a valley with temperatures pushing 100 degrees in early May and not a lot of water readily available, landscaping overall is minimal was my impression.

You can pay your water bill online for a fee, but your account online can't tell you what you owe…read more You can't call the automated system and find out what your bill is. You have to call and speak to a human. But the one human with the one phone never answers. If you're lucky enough to ever get an answer, you'll hear her tell you how many phone calls they get from people asking what they owe so they can pay their bill. And, of course, if you call every day but can't get through to anyone, you'll still owe the late fee for not paying your bill on time. What a joke.
