Also plenty of restrooms as well. So glad we stopped to SUP for an hour- the weather was absolutely perfect. $6 parking for out of state license plates and the park rangers do come by to check!

Heading cross country, the family wanted to stop for lunch and sit in a park. We got off at the…read morenext likely exit from I 94, and found ourselves in Huntley Montana, One of many small quaint towns along the Yellowstone River. In more or less the middle of town, we found this park: a large rectangle of grass, shade trees, a considerable play structure, and a few other odds and ends like a small basketball court, tetherball, and an athletic field. Heck, there's even a sand volleyball pit that looks well used. Just a few folks enjoying a quiet day of white puffy clouds and cerulean skies, along with our family. We picked one of the picnic tables in the park, a table that would have been reserved through some kind of online system back home. Not here, plenty to choose from and each one inviting for a road weary family. It felt good to get out of the car, and move around a little bit. A freight train went by on the nearby tracks, reminding us that this ain't SoCal. I can't imagine when we'd be back here again, but suffice to say, it made for a nice memory, and glad to put them in the Yelposphere.

A relatively short drive out of Billings, this State Park is on the Crow Indian reservation. It's…read morea beautiful spot, part of the land deeded to Chief Plenty Coups through the Dawes Act. Plenty Coups' story is equally fascinating: honored as the last of the traditional chiefs of his tribe, his story is entwined with this park, part of his original land allotment and place upon which he built his home (modeled on Mt. Vernon according to the details). As one of the first to understand the loss of the way of life of the Native American tribes, he settled in this location after seeing it in a vision. The cabin is larger than a standard log home of the era, and has an upstairs, as well. Also included on the property is separate building used as a community store, according to the descriptions. The park itself also has a teepee set up next to the home, and a museum and visitor center that does a great job describing the park and the residents of the surrounding area. It's a nice historical park with a short (less than a mile) trail around the property and along the creek, and also offers a picnic area. There's an audio tour available, but the markers along the path and around the home provide a nice self-guided tour if that's your preference.

Close to town, easy to find and park at the trailhead. The trail is very steep for the first half…read moremile or so as you head to the top of the Rimrocks, but once you're up, it's all flat and some gorgeous scenery. There are two different loops you can take at the top, and it you do both, the total distance is 3 miles round-trip. The trail is easy to find and follow, great for novice hikers and kids as long as you have the endurance to get to the top. Take a picnic to the top! Lots of great spots to see below to town and out to the mountains. Some shaded areas too. Dogs on leashes are permitted. I did not see any restrooms, or picnic tables. There is also a disc golf course here too; I don't know anything about disc golf, but some of the baskets were in very challenging spots!

This is a wonderful trail just minutes outside of town. First part of the journey is straight up…read morebut well worth Klein. Once you get on the plateau it's a very easy walk from there back to the bottom. Some incredible views with a very nice breeze blowing. It was 100° when we went but still very pleasant due to the low humidity and the cost of breeze. Not a busy trail, we only encountered a few people when we were there. Be careful with small children because there are many drop off points. We really enjoyed it.
