We got off at the…read morenext likely exit from I 94, and found ourselves in Huntley Montana, One of many small quaint towns along the Yellowstone River. In more or less the middle of town, we found this park: a large rectangle of grass, shade trees, a considerable play structure, and a few other odds and ends like a small basketball court, tetherball, and an athletic field. Heck, there's even a sand volleyball pit that looks well used. Just a few folks enjoying a quiet day of white puffy clouds and cerulean skies, along with our family. We picked one of the picnic tables in the park, a table that would have been reserved through some kind of online system back home. Not here, plenty to choose from and each one inviting for a road weary family. It felt good to get out of the car, and move around a little bit. A freight train went by on the nearby tracks, reminding us that this ain't SoCal. I can't imagine when we'd be back here again, but suffice to say, it made for a nice memory, and glad to put them in the Yelposphere.

It's very touristy and has a info area where you can see more of the artifacts found from the indigenous people who inhabited indigenous Montana. The young girl who was sitting up front, did not greet nor smile- I said hello and she ignored me, so even louder I asked how are you doing, arms crossed and still not smiling, said good- and it ended there. Rude and your an anglo Saxon selling native American postcards and art and displaying their artifacts- with an angry and hateful demeanor, I find that interesting..??

Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area is a massive recreation area spread across Wyoming and…read moreMontana. There is a visitor center in each state and vastly different personalities to the area at either end. If you're looking to visit the canyons head to the Wyoming visitor center. You can not access the canyons by car from Montana (without a 2+ hour drive). From the Montana side you can visit the Yellowtail Dam (currently closed due to Covid), there is boat access here and you can fish in the river. Fly fishing is very popular in this area. This is a beautiful area to visit especially if you have access to a boat.

This visit was the end on June, 52° at 2pm at the summit, & 91° at our startup. It was breezy and traffic was lighter than usual. Cloudy skies made for more interesting pics & I do wish we'd had more time to spend playing with the cameras today. We may make a trip out next week for that, or perhaps wait out fall... gotta be careful tho, snow closes the pass unpredictably!

We deliberately stayed in Red Lodge, Montana, so that we would be able to drive the Beartooth on…read moreour way into Yellowstone. The week we were in town, every day was in the mid 90s temperature wise. Beartooth has a significant change in elevation, so as you drive, the temperature continues to drop. When we hit the Summit, it was actually quite chilly! This drive is amazing - there is something new to see around every bend! You can definitely see why they close it during the winter, as it can be very nerve-racking at times, but it was worth every minute of the drive. Absolutely make sure you do it at least once in your lifetime!

Just be sure to wear your life jacket or else you will get fined. :) There is a path around the lake to walk, a playground area, a dog park (park at the launch area and walk .25 miles), and some shelters you can rent out. Also plenty of restrooms as well. So glad we stopped to SUP for an hour- the weather was absolutely perfect. $6 parking for out of state license plates and the park rangers do come by to check!

I really didnt see any picnic tables or much more that would help classify this as a park, but then again I was in a hurry to get to the airport so all I managed to get to do was a short walk on the trail and walk to the river to take in the amazing scenery. The river walk area takes you to the Yellowstone River, and offers you a great view of the Sacrifice Cliffs which are pretty spectacular. I wish that I had more time, it would have been great to be able to bike down the trail. If I ever make it back to Montana, I will be sure to return.
