These two were introduced to a post-kayak pup cup at Riverton General Store - favorite stop for a BLT, beverage and a scoop or two.

Great post-kayak pit stop today. Three fresh made BLT's, one on a hard roll and two others on toasted white. Usual chips for the table, but I forgot (bad John!). Sat outside in the shaded quart yard, a very peaceful spot with ample seating. The beverages and sandwiches gone in a flash; I guess knowing ice cream was to follow. Three double scoops of "The Swamp" for daughter, fiancé, and myself and my wife a double mint chocolate chip. The three well behaved pups earned a pup cup of vanilla. Hats off to Riverton General Store! A one of a kind in the booming metropolis of Riverton. It's well worth going out of your way. The owners and staff are all great people.

Riverton is one of the most charming New England towns in CT. Based on the constant flow of traffic we saw during our stay, the General Store seems to be the center of it. Everything, but the lady who took our lunch order, is charming in this place! I'm hoping she was just having a bad day, but even if not, it didn't ruin our good spirits or effect the taste of our lunch. We ordered an Italian Combo sandwich, a grilled cheese with tomato, and a homemade chili with tortilla chips. Everyone enjoyed their lunch very much. The chili vegetables were a bit chunkier than hoped (1.5 inch pieces of pepper is a mouthful), but I'm sure that's just how others like it and the chili had a good medium spicy flavor. The outdoor seating was absolutely beautiful. Surrounded by cottage garden flowering plants and American style decorations. Dog friendly. The wrought iron table and chairs all have umbrellas. There's a bike rack for bikers (3 different groups of bikers came through while we were there). If you've never driven around Riverton, you must plan a trip. If you want an affordable and reliable lunch or treat, pop into the General Store.

My kids love this little stop. The store has a sandwich section that offers a variety of options. Or, you can build your own. My son went with chicken salad. My daughter went with a vegetable sandwich. I had a small cup of clam chowder. Both sandwiches were substantial. And both disappeared with nary a crumb remaining. My chowder was a bit thin, but had great flavor. There's a few knick knacks for sale. Plenty of chips & snacks. And ice cream in the back. All in all, a great little spot for a quick meal or snack to go. Downside? Only one. No public restrooms. They send you to an outhouse on the street. Seriously. Welcome to Riverton.

I've been to the general store before but never to eat and today I gave it a try. The staff was top notch and the girl that helped me and my friends was really sweet. The turkey on a roll was made perfectly for something so basic and the environment is inviting. Will definitely be back after my next long hike in the peoples forest.

Everything about this place is spectacular! I stopped in to have a bowl of chili at around 10:30 AM. They were not serving it at this time, but the staff accommodated for me and I was served their tasty and warm chili with a buttered roll on the side. I washed it down with one of the drinks in their 5-6 large refrigerators. The seating area is quaint and matches the small river-town aesthetic. The tables and floors were shining and all the napkins and condiments were organized. With delicious food, tons of variety, friendly staff, and a well mannered interior, this is undoubtedly the best place to stop if traveling by Riverton.

This store is the cutest thing since baby panda videos. It's in the middle of nowhere, but completely worth the trip. Dying for a lunch that wasn't cheap fast food, I took a chance on their deli and was not disappointed. The meat and cheese were plentiful and well balanced with the bread. The service was quick, and although I don't recall exact price it was reasonable for a sandwich. The store also had plenty of chips and drinks to accompany it. The decor screams small town, with lots of pictures that must be readily understood by the daily local crowd. It makes me wish I lived in Riverton so I could be one of them!

Cranky staff repeatedly treats customers like they are a nuisance. That's gonna work out real well in the long term.

The sandwiches are awesome, expensive but worth it. Ice cream is great too. Although I wish they were open later!! especially in the summer.

It remains a small, independently owned store with a surprisingly full stock, lots of fresh meats, deli items, produce, a large beer cooler with all the local and foreign brands you night desire, and a very friendly and helpful staff. We're especially fond of the nice folks behind the deli counter. Our complaints are about the same: the prices hover on the high side. The prices are generally quite a bit higher than the nearby Stop and Shop, but honestly, the quality of their locally produced items is far higher. Still, if you're buying some basics like soup or milk, you'll pay more here, and some prices can be really way up there. Sometimes we're frustrated by that, other times we're grateful to find some delicious fresh fish or prepared salads. Bantam is not our first market of choice, but we're here regularly for some things we like and want.

But if you're looking for unique food items, this is your place. For me, I stop in often just to pick up some fried chicken from the deli, it's the best around -- juicy & meaty, but not greasy, and the coating is very tasty. $6.99 a pound. That fried chicken is 5 Stars every time. Friendly crew, but the checkout can be a bit of a process though, the place does a brisk business, and the parking lot is always full.

The still tastes good, with some exceptions. The frier oil seemed burnt, so the pickle chips we had just had that little bit of carbon taste on them. The pickle chips batter was very thick, and the mayo was the only respite. The sandwich, still tasty, seemed much smaller than normal, the meat still had good flavor, but the portion was lighter in comparison. The prices are also a bit high. The sandwich coming out to about 15 bucks. The bargain is very much gone now, and the portion is okay for a sandwich but pricy because of this shrinkage. Not shown are the overcooked onion rings. We returned those and the server promptly removed them from the bill. So really good customer service. I opted for a brownie for dessert, and the brownie was a disappointment. Too sugary, no flavor, gummy, and disappointingly small and thin. A detractor for sure. As a deli, it feels like it's on the decline. I know things are pricier now, but what you pay vs what you get doesn't match up. I'm hoping they pivot from this path, but right now it's no longer my go-to. It's still tasty, just pricy

From the moment you see the elegant vintage sign and bright red double doors, you know you're in for something authentic. The interior feels warm and welcoming, with a big, clear menu board that makes ordering easy. They have a solid selection of hot and cold sandwiches, breakfast options, and coffee. I went with one of their specials -- it looked like a chicken cutlet or eggplant variation with fresh greens (possibly arugula), roasted red peppers or similar, and what appeared to be a touch of egg or cheese. Whatever it was, it was excellent. The sandwich came on a perfect crusty Italian roll -- the bread was fresh with a great chew and slight crisp on the outside. The fillings were generous, flavorful, and well-balanced. The greens added a nice peppery bite that cut through the richness of the protein and any sauces. It was one of those sandwiches where every bite tastes just as good as the last. Service was friendly and efficient (the guy behind the counter was busy but still took time to make sure everything was right). The place has that old-school deli atmosphere mixed with modern touches -- exactly what you want when you're craving a quality sandwich. If you're in the area and looking for a no-nonsense, delicious deli sandwich made with care, Petraroia Deli is worth a visit. I'll definitely be back to try more from the hot sandwich list (the Porchetta and Chicken Cordon Bleu both caught my eye). Pro tip: Check their hours -- they appear to be closed on Mondays. *Highly recommend the fried artichoke sandwich. .
