Riverton is a nice upscale complex in Harlem. During my hunt for a new apartment I came across very expensive rentals, but there were no upgrades in these apartments, but the apts were still to pricey. At the Riverton you get your money's worth. You live in a gated community, the apartments are renovated, the residents are friendly, and the rooms are not to small. read more

I'm a single motherof a young child, and have lived here for 8 years. I am disappointed. Maintenance is pretty good about repairing things in a timely fashion and staff seems to be nice, but it's not worth the money. For the past few months, I have had an issue with my neighbor who smokes marijuana every other day and it comes into my apartment. It got so bad one time that EMS had to come because I was ready to pass out from the smell. I told management numerous times and at least seven or eight reports have been made from security, who have smelled it, and after sending a couple of "good neighbor" letters, management said that they've done all they could do. Can you imagine paying $1500+ a month for an apartment to come home with your child, open your door, and it wreaks of marijuana smoke? read more

I moved out of Riverton at the end of August and was not sorry at all. It is now January, and despite the 25+ calls, and emails, they have yet to return my deposit money. If I could give them negative stars I totally would. They tried to increase my rent by hundreds of dollars a month when my lease was up, and while I didn't have a problem with roaches or bed bugs, the apartment was WAY TOO HOT! The exposed pipes got so hot that I accidentally burned myself numerous times. I finally got them to cover the pipes when I fainted from the heat one day and threatened to sue them. I had to run my AC all winter to make it bearable at all. These people are crooks and I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more

I've been living Riverton Square over year and half. When I first time moved in I had brand new renovated apartment. But within three months everything start falling apart itself. I realized that they put cheap wall paints, door knobs, bathroom shower sliding doors, dishwashing machine, windows hard to open & close, it's like toy house......... 1) Before I move-in I asked them to check my apartment to take some measurement for my furnitures and stuff. But they did not give a permission to access which it didn't make any sense. At move-in day the property manager showed me my apartment and asked me to sign property list was OK which it wasn't but I had no choice to move-in ASAP. Because of this situation I couldn't fit my favorite couch didn't fit in small elevator and yet I had to put lot of stuff I had to put in storage. They gave me the measurement of apartment and elevator, but in real world you need to visualize to figure out what furniture to keep in new apartment especially if you're moving from three bedroom apartment to two bedroom apartment. Also Riverton Square charged me main entrance/apartment keys and I paid $150 for couple keys and when you move out all keys will return but no money back. When I moved out from my old apartment I had money back for returning keys. Of course if you lose a key I understand that I have to pay for a new key. 2) While living Riverton Square I am dealing with a lot of problem. I had lot of thing broken and I reported them immediately over a year ago, but still hasn't fixed water leaking from the ceiling in bathroom. Now some how they charged me BS capital improvement and they explain that main entrance, elevator improvement which the elevator is still broken buttons. It's not my responsibility to pay they capital improvements. Literally everyday day I smell pots in apartment inside and some young residents smoke pot, drink alcohol front of security kiosk. What's the point of having 24hours security which they don't pay attention and some people entering in building without key access and it makes me in insecure. Maintenance people come to fix some of my windows, but they don't know how to fix and with no tools and I instruct them how to fix it with my tools. 3) I met many residents those who aren't happy with Leasing Office people and Management. The Management doesn't do their jobs properly and some of them very rude. When I was there last time they're eating bad smell fried chicken while talking to residents with unpleasure ignoring face. They better eat that bad smell junk food outside office.Seems like for them professionalism doesn't exist. Literally every month I have an issue with Leasing office which I get always charged late fee. Who wants to mess with Late fee and I had an excellent payment and credit history in past 10 years my previous apartment. I send my check 10 days early I guess they don't deposit the check before month start, so that makes me to look I didn't pay my rent on time and yet they send Rent invoice with late fee charge the 1st day of the month. 4) Recently I found out that Compass real estate constantly changing the P.O. Box address and it effects your payment situation. Somehow they don't send official letter that address changed and I don't know who is taking my rent checks. I've talked with some residents the problem I had and apparently they're having same problems years. I write this because I usually hate reading about restaurant complaints or comments. But this is really serious where you live and especially in NYC long term living residents need safe place to live and it's really hard to change a place every year unless you're short term students or traveling. read more

HORRIBLE PLACE TO LIVE!!!! I lived at Riverton Square for 4 years. At one point I had mice and called the management office to have the situation taken care of. They did nothing about it for 4 weeks!! I ended up having a mice infestation. I would see mice running all over the apartment, on my bed, etc. Finally after I complained and called in to the New York City Complaints Department, they addressed the issue. This happened again about a year later and it took them 2 weeks to do something about it!! Other times things would break down like the microwave broke and I called to have it fixed or replaced. After 2 days of waiting I called to complain and was told to "Be patient." I'm paying my rent on time and told to be patient. Same thing with the washing machine. It was making terrible noises and I called to complain and they wouldn't do anything about it. It wasn't until my next door neighbor complained about the noise that they finally came and fixed it. My dishwasher wouldn't drain and I called about that and they took about 2 days to fix it. Again, I was told, "Be patient." Finally when it was time to move out, they require you to fill out a few forms. I did and emailed them in. One was for a move out request and inspection. I put on several dates and they ignored my request. I moved out on November 26 and asked for a November 29 inspection so I could clean the apartment which was a requirement of theirs. November 29 came and the office was closed because it was the day after Thanksgiving. The only day the super could inspect my apartment was on Monday, December 2. He inspected my apartment and there were no issues. But guess what? I was charged for 2 days of rent because the inspection was done 2 days after my lease was up but it was done on that day because that's the only day the super would do the inspection!!! I asked the leasing agent about this and she told me I would be given the money back. I asked the main office about it many times and I NEVER GOT THE 2 DAYS OF RENT PAID BACK!!! THEY ARE CROOKS!!! I even called the main office and was passed around and never got any help!!! To top it all off, my security deposit was finally returned to me (MINUS THE 2 DAYS OF RENT THEY CHARGED ME WHEN IT WAS THEIR FAULT!) and when I deposited it into my account, a few days later I was charged $35 for a return check fee and the money never was deposited. I had to COMPLAIN MANY TIMES and finally a couple of months later received the security check (STILL MINUS THE 2 DAYS RENT THEY CHARGED ME THAT WASN'T EVEN MY FAULT!) I DO NOT RECOMMEND LIVING AT RIVERTON SQUARE AT ALL!!! They are unfair, but they collect a lot of RENT and treat you like crap!!! The only reason I gave it one star is because there's not an option to give it ZERO stars!!! I cannot stress it enough, I DID NOT LIKE LIVING AT RIVERTON SQUARE AT ALL!!!!! read more

Can any apartment building get 5 stars in NYC? I don't think it's possible, but I'm going to give it to Riverton. Riverton is really one of the best places I've lived in the last 15 years. Maintenance does repairs in a timely fashion (though note, I really haven't had to rely on them to repair anything since move in); the management office is always polite and courteous when I call; I live at "Little Riverton", and the 24 hour security team is always so pleasant - when I see them, the smile and wave signal to me that I am home. It's convenient to express trains down both the east and the west sides of Manhattan and bus stops on both sides of thes treet, and the apartments are very well maintained and very spacious. Move in was a piece of cake - I was approved in 2 days, and signing a lease on the 3rd. Mary Allison really does make it her job to make the process seamless (I looked at Savoy and Lenox Terrace, and wasn't impressed with either, comparitively). Though I've never had an issue, exterminators are on hand for weekly service (literally haven't seen a bug since I moved in) and have never seen a rodent in the entire building: outside grounds, basement and laundry room, included. Walls are very thick and ambient neighbor sound is really kept to a minimum. Elevators, though fast and often available, can be entertaining at times (skipping floors occasionally), but rumor has it, they're getting upgrades - even still, not enough to make me detract a star. The Riverton Community, though, is truly my favorite part. So many wonderful people live in these buildings - please make sure you say hello to your neighbors when you move in; you'll be so happy to have met such warm and caring personalities. I may have lucked out with my building and floor (luck of the draw) but after having lived on the UWS, UES, Soho, the West Village (for 8 years), I've never felt so much at home as I do, here. I have lived here for years. Over the past 14yrs years their have been at least three owners. The courtyard has always been nice, there used to be security that would walk around the property every hour and you felt safe now the security does not circulate the property. One of the many owners moved the security booth from the middle of the courtyard to one end of the property facing the street to where they not only cannot see what is going on in the courtyard but also most the time they're not in the booth or if they happen to br there they are either sleep on their phone playing games on Facebook, basically useless. About eight years back they put a gate around the building you have to buzz as an intercom on gate as well as the door at your particular building to let your guests in. The intercom is broken most of the time. As I'm writing this now on August 19, 2016 the gate has been broken for atleast three months which means in order for you to let your guest or delivery person or emergency professionals in you have to go downstairs and physically let them in it is very inconvenient. they have not spoken about, sent a letter or anything about the situation going on with the gate and is very frustrating. I have had packages stolen from in front of my door, when I call to report to the management office, the only thing that was said was we don't have cameras in the stairwell or floors other than the courtyard entrance, & we don't deal with stolen items. It would have been nice for them to say that they will look into it that they will send out a letter notifying the other tenants not to have packages delivered in front of their doors as we have done for many years basically I felt like they didn't care at all. Scheduling appointments for work in your apartment can be a hassle & there is always some emergency plumbing issue to where they have to shut off the water all day, with one days notice sometimes only within hours notice. The best thing about living here is the apartment it's self & the beautiful courtyard. Is very close to the train so that's convenient also. Before moving here come see for yourself, gated community sounds great until you live here & you have to keep running downstairs to let your guest & deliveries in for months at a time. read more

Myself, my husband and daughter have been living at Riverton since June 2013,. Our experience thus far has been unpleasant and a huge disappointment to say the least. While I will agree with others that the exterior grounds of the property is well kept, there are internal unhabital conditions that are addressed to no satisfaction. Initially we had an issue with mice that was satisfied with a little harassment. Our dish washer went out taking them a month to replace it-- meanwhile having the receptionist imply that we were over-reacting "because she has a dish washer and washes hers by hand everyday." Good for her was my response because I pay 2,166 a month to have all the conveniences I pay for! We have had multiple problems with plumbing and leaks in our bathroom. While the leaks have been addressed, there is still peeling paint. In addition, we currently have a bed bug issue which was addressed on more than one occasion without resolve because Riverton insist on using a company that relys on a dog to sniff for bed bugs. The dog has been to our apartment on three occasions resulting in what they said is negative, only to find bed bugs on my wall 2 days post visit. Neighbors in the building warned us of bed bugs however, we weren't concerned because we moved in with all new furniture, and a cautious attempt when traveling. Once again we are working on addressing the issue which is unfortunately at its worse because there appears to be an infestation that resulted from a small problem not being properly addressed escalating into a larger one. Riverton has taken no responsibity, however implied that we brought the bed bugs, in addition to blaming us for not properly packing up our things for extermination. The system if I may call it that (sniffing dog) is a Racket! Unfortunately we renewed our lease May 31st with approximately a 5% increase because we were unable to find anything suitable for our family size that we could afford in enough time to leave Riverton. If you're considering Riverton keep in mind that bed bugs can be an issue. After reviewing my lease completely I learned that my building alone has had a bed bug issue in 6 different units-- which is approximately 5.5% of the building. This may not seem like a lot until you consider bed bugs travel through cracks from the neighbor above, beneath or next door. I hope your experience is a lot better than ours... read more
