Very much so a "your mileage may vary" type of service. I've used Loftey twice. The first time was in mid-2021 when landlords still hadn't really recovered from the pandemic, so many landlords were offering no-fee apartments (meaning you don't pay for the landlord's broker fee - yes, it's essentially a scam that the renter normally pays for the landlord's broker fee but welcome to NYC housing). I got my pick of apartments at that time and my Loftey agent was good about finding no-fee spacious apartments in prime areas with plenty of natural light. I was super happy with Loftey because we got a great apartment at a pretty good deal. Mid-2023 rolls around and suddenly, everyone wants to move to NYC. Rents have skyrocketed due to the demand, which are apparently even higher than pre-pandemic. If there are no-fee apartments at a deal, it's usually because there's something seriously wrong with it. I tried using Loftey again, and to their credit, they showed me spacious apartments in not-so-prime locations, but all of the apartments had 15% broker fees because Loftey splits the broker fee with the leasing agent. The Loftey website says that they're paid in "referral fees" that the "renter is never supposed to pay," but in such a hot market, no landlord is going to pay for referral fees. The demand is already there. I suspect Loftey is incentivized to only show apartments with higher broker fees because leasing agents aren't going to be willing to split a 1-month broker fee during a crazy market. My suspicions were somewhat confirmed because my Loftey agent showed me an apartment that was supposedly 15% broker fee, but the StreetEasy listing for the same apartment mentioned a 1 month broker fee. So Loftey advertises that you don't pay any extra fees, but in a hot market, you're essentially paying for the Loftey broker's fee as well as the leasing agent's. You're no better off using Loftey than if you went with some other random broker (and at that point, you might as well sift through StreetEasy on your own). TL;DR the quality of the service is going to heavily depend on the housing market. Unless we get another pandemic, I'm not sure Loftey is going to be worth it ever again. read more

I'm still processing what happened with Loftey. I was really excited to finally work with them after positive reviews from a friend and enjoying most of their listings. Unfortunately they wasted my time that could have been better spent searching for my next home. They claim to be the "anti-realtor realtor service" but just like realtors they are only interested in working with you if the conditions are perfect and benefit them. They took ALL of my documentation that a building would need upfront, asked me what MY ideal apartment would be multiple times, just to come back a week or so later and send a rejection email. Apparently the types of apartments I was most interested in were no fee and wouldn't get them paid. What's the point in advertising no fee if that's not what you do? The things I was looking for were well within the range of what I'd seen and liked on their website and I said multiple times that I was open and flexible if they were to just show me apartments. I ended up showing them multiple beautiful apartments that fit my needs... they never sent me anything. I imagine they jump for people with 5k budgets, no problem spending extra money on fees and insist on living below 96th street. Thankful that my REALTOR found me a brand new apartment in just a few days that fit my requirements and got us both what we wanted. read more

This was my fourth time apartment hunting in NYC and after having some nightmare experiences with brokers in the past, I was NOT excited about it. I heard about Loftey and was hesitant at first - it sounded too good to be true! But I figured I didn't have anything to lose, so I gave it a try. I talked with Ashley and John to learn about how it works and I was immediately sold on it. I sent them a list of things I wanted in an apartment, and they were able to pull together some listings that met my criteria. I worked with Nicholas who was so good at organizing our appartment hunts and talking to us patiently over several video calls to narrow our search and get a good list in order. Then we had Franklin who showed us the appartments. He managed to make us tour 10 appts in one day! They didnt charge us a penny for any of this. We finally settled for a no fee appartment that did not agree to work with loftey so they were quite upfront about telling us this. I would definitely use them again and reccommend them to my friends and colleagues. I dont remeber ever signing up fro this, but within 48 hours, I received cut and paste emails from LOFTKEY employees (I apparently didnt use a real name when I signed up and their email was addressed to a fake name like Dear XXXcccDDD We cant wait to start working with you and cutting thru all the fake listings, as well as telling me about all the great deals that NYC landlords have to do right now because of covid - but in the meantime, the market has been the strongest for landlords in decades. I just scored my dream apartment in midtown by working with Loftey and my super duper agent - Sophia. I am moving from Washington, DC, and honestly in my 7 or so moves in my adult life, I would have never expected moving to New York be one of my most stress free movers ever, but it was thanks to Loftey! Within 1 day and 7 viewings, I found the perfect apartment and signed with them on the spot. This was simply great because: 1. More than Apartment Agents, but NYC Life Curation Advisers Moving from outside of New York, I really appreciate how the Loftey team really took their time to proactively advise me on the pros and cons on the preferences I was prioritizing (location, price, amenities, and etc.) vis-a-vie my life situation (commute to work, frequency of guests, and etc.). They really used the neighborhood knowledge to give me the inside scoop of how apartments I was interested in would really impact my life. Based upon getting to know me, they were able to give really insightful recommendations to land me in the perfect apartment. I also really appreciate they took their time to explain NYC listing to me. I came across Loftey after browsing online for apartment brokers in NYC, and am very glad I stumbled upon the service. The process was exactly as described on the initial phone call I had with them. I gave them my list of requirements, budget, preferred neighborhoods, etc...Shortly after, my agent, Andrea, curated a comprehensive list of ~15 options that met my needs. My girlfriend and I decided to give Loftey a shot when we were looking to return to NYC after staying at our parent's houses for a few months due to Covid. For those who don't want to read the full review, I highly recommend their services as they take a huge amount of stress out of the moving process, will reduce your rent in one way or another, and are great to work with! PS...you probably are thinking Loftey is too good to be true. We thought the same before signing up with them but went for it. They are as valuable as advertised and you will not regret it. If you are hesitant I suggest at least going through the intro call with them to learn exactly how they operate and make money so you can understand their process. After our initial screenings and learning more about Loftey, we began working with Nakia. Loftey's agents basically act like brokers in that they will organize apartment showings within your budget/preferences and then take you around. The big difference is that they do not command that outrageous NYC broker fee. Note that they do give you the option to look at fee buildings, you just will not pay Loftey anything extra for their services. Nakia was super friendly and seemed to understand exactly the type of apartment we were looking for right from the get-go. We did one day of about 7 apartment showings in the city and saw some beautiful apartments/buildings that we never expected to be within our budget. Once we settled on where we wanted to live a few days (hours) later, Nakia was a great liaison with the apartment building management - setting up, clarifying, and ultimately negotiating the terms of the lease. While we were unable to directly lower the monthly rent on the apartment (management had already dropped it significantly due to Covid), we did receive two months free and, as advertised, received a check from Loftey since they could not reduce the monthly price. Loftey will make the apartment search so much easier for you. In the chaos that is NYC apartment hunting, their services are invaluable. The fact that you also do not need to pay them, and can save money utilizing them, makes it even better! We were hesitant because it sounded too good to be true, but after going through this process with them I cannot imagine ever going back to the traditional way of apartment hunting. Loftey is a FREE BROKER FOR RENTERS! It's a dream come true! The NYC rental market is intentionally frustrating to navigate. Most building brokers just want to talk to other brokers, and if you don't have one, you're stuck on StreetEasy wishing you did. You think you found a place on Craigslist? HA! Sure, it's a great spot in The Village with a private rooftop and W/D in unit, but no one should be sending a $1250 deposit to Georgia without seeing the unit first, and yes the detail is too specific that I cannot be making it up. Loftey protects you from scams, creepy landlords, sneaky fees, pest issues, pushy brokers, and gingivitis! But what's even better is they actually listen to what you want in an apartment, and then they deliver. They make all the phone calls, coordinate all the tours, go to bat for you in negotiation, and then give you discount codes for movers! I was moving within the city and only looking at "no fee" luxury buildings (where I could work with the leasing office directly), so I was on the fence about whether or not I really needed a broker. However, working with Loftey made the whole process so much smoother and helped me to get a good deal on the rent. Dylan was extremely helpful in finding good options, getting some video tours in advance to help us prioritize, lining up a bunch of appointments on the same day, and then helping me compare the different apartments and make a decision. I was a little worried that Loftey would try to steer me toward buildings that would get them a better deal, but Dylan was really good about setting up appointments at places I suggested and finding other good options based on my priorities. Once I decided on a place, he was also helpful in negotiating a good deal on the lease--all with no cost to me. In the end, I love my new place and am happy with the price that I'm getting on it. I spoke with Tristan over email about my ideal requirements, and then I met up with Lenny in person for a day of apartment touring. The guy I talked to was kind of pushy and never really let me talk and tell him what I was looking for. The min I told him my budget I got a very rude response. I used Loftey back in 2016 and had such a wonderful experience - I recommended Loftey to everyone that was moving in the city. So I was excited to use Loftey again when I moved this summer. However, I had a very disappointing experience that completely changed my opinion on the company. The biggest issue was that my agent was absolutely terrible at communicating. During the application process, I usually had to be the one to reach out to him for updates. There were also a few times where my agent communicated incorrect information to me about key details of the application (e.g., he confirmed to me that the landlord would cover certain fees, that I ended up having to pay for. Or saying there would be no issue having a later move in date, when the landlord ended up not agreeing to it). He also did not disclose the broker fees properly, and the portion of the fee that Loftey would be receiving as a "referral". Once my application was submitted, I never heard from my agent again - which is just poor customer service. Ultimately, I do not think my agent provided really any value to the process. Even though he did set up showings, he did not really do anything helpful during the application process and ultimately caused me more stress with the incorrect application info (certainly did not provide enough value to justify the portion of the broker fee Loftey received). read more

Loftey was referred to me by a friend who was raving about their 0 fee broker service. I was skeptical about them at first because the whole thing really seemed too good to be true. Having worked with brokers in the past, I really went into Loftey with the expectation that there were hidden fees that would be brought up later. Either way, I thought I'd give it a shot and at least connect with them. We scheduled an initial phone call and went over our preferences (neighborhood, price ranges, deal breakers, etc). Our rep Derek was totally transparent about how he gets paid and how the business model functions. After the call, we sent him a few streeteasy links that we had in mind, and he got back to us the next day with his thoughts on our findings, attaching videos and floor plans that weren't available on streeteasy. (Which was huge, considering coronavirus has put a stop to almost all in-person visits) Derek's service throughout the process was fantastic. Best part was his knowledge of each of the neighborhoods, and the fact that he was willing to work with our preferences (no matter how picky!). He gave us way more info than I was expecting, and wasn't afraid to give us his honest opinion, even if it meant extending the search process. I didn't at all get the vibe that he was pushing us towards certain listings that would pay him more, nor did I feel he was prioritizing larger buildings with established management companies. He provided options in buildings large and small, purely based on our preferences. Long story short - I don't know how he did it, but he got us in contact directly with the landlord of a building who offered us a price point less than what was advertised on Streeteasy. There were no hidden fees, and we ended up paying less than if we had gone into our search without Loftey in the picture. If you consider Loftey, ask for Derek to be your guy! read more

Loftey has legit the most amazing service in town. I've used them twice now, once to find a two br in Hell's Kitchen and most recently to find a studio in the West Village. For the first apartment, it was mine and my roommate's first time finding a place in NYC, and we had no idea how hard it was or how many hoops we had to jump through. Ori found us a spot in our budget where we stayed for 2 years. He wasn't able to negotiate the rent down by $100, so they gave us a check for $1,200 to cover that for the first year! (p.s. that check was NOT contingent on us writing a review, as some people have suggested. I'm writing this review over a year after we moved OUT of that apt) Ori helped us through the entire application and approval process, including guarantors, and he met us at the management office to make sure the signing process went smoothly. Loftey was even more impressive the second time I used them in June 2019. I'm not joking when I say that, for my current apartment in the West Village, I gave them an IMPOSSIBLE task ‍. I had about 5 square blocks I was willing to live within, I needed something waaaay under market value, and I wanted either a 1 br or a large studio with a big kitchen, a place for a dining table, and a large space to entertain and have people over. Oh, and a large bathroom. And boy did Dan deliver! Within about a week, he had 3 places for me to see, and one of them was PERFECT . He negotiated the rent down by $100 , got me an earlier move-in date, and helped with the entire app/approval process. I will literally never leave this apartment unless I move away from nyc or someone drags me out . It's beautiful, tons of light, on a quiet street, and everyone who comes over cannot believe that I found such a gem . If you haven't already, high key you need to get on board with Loftey! You won't regret it. SIDE NOTE: Every apartment they showed me I looked up on streeteasy, and they were always listed for the same price. In fact, they'd send me the listings FROM streeteasy quite often, but I wouldn't have to go through the hassle of setting up an appointment with the apartment's broker, and Loftey helped me feel confident I wasn't getting ripped off. You can also send them listings you find on other sites and they'll make sure they're legit and will set up a time to see it with you. Idk what other reviewers are talking about when they're claiming Loftey is increasing the price. They'd have to be pretty thick to do that with their clients' ability to check the price on other sites in approx 0.5 sec. C'mon people, don't be a sheep. read more

This is shady. I found them on facebook ads and decided to give it a try. So I registered in Loftey and went through everything. First thing I've noticed is that there is not enough listing on the website. I was surprised that they have 'ZERO' listing for a studio under $2k. I find tons of them on Streeteasy.com in the same neighborhood and a similar condition, building years, amenities, etc. However, I found it makes sense. They seem to list all the apt's monthly rents higher than what they are supposed to be and pretend that they are giving us rent discount or moving assistance. For example, I found one studio for $1975 on Streeteasy.com and found a very similar condition studio for $2400 on Loftey! What in the world that they charge $400 more per month? those studios are only a few blocks away from each other and a similar condition, building years, amenities, etc. For a year, it is over $5,000 if you consider that you will be charged $400 for every months. So I accuse that Loftey uses that extra money (from overpriced rents) to brag that they either give you a rent reduction or moving assistance. Lastly, THERE IS NO WAY TO DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT ON THE WEBSITE! There is no instant way to remove your personal information on the website. I believe that you have to call or email them to delete your account and how annoying is that? Why do you want to make it so hard to delete an account? Are you like that much insecure about losing website users? This is totally not for me and it is SHADY! read more

I had a good experience with Loftey, but definitely did not understand fully how the process worked so hopefully this review will be helpful to others. To start off I will say that my agent, Farah, was wonderful. She was really responsive, organized and pleasant to deal with. I think the most important thing to note which I didn't fully appreciate at the onset (and which is never explained in the pitch of their services) is that Loftey says they don't charge an ADDITIONAL fee...not that they don't charge a fee at all. It wasn't until I had found an apartment with a fee that it was explained to me that Loftey just won't charge you anything above the typical 15% of the annual rent (I'm not aware of any broker in Manhattan that would charge above the already outrageous 15% fee). If I hadn't engaged Loftey, I feel that I definitely would have had more negotiating power in terms of the broker fee...in the past when I have rented directly from the listing broker, I was able to negotiate half off the fee. I may not have been able to get half off the fee for this particular apartment, but I'm confident I would have been able to negotiate the fee below the 15% I ended up paying (half of which went to Loftey). In my case, my broker was not able to negotiate down the broker fee or the monthly rent (not her fault, this was a brand new listing so they didn't really have to negotiate), so I will receive a $300 credit for my moving expenses. Typically that credit is contingent on you making a social media post about the service, but after I gave my feedback Loftey waived that requirement (I assume for fear that my post would be negative). If you are only interested in looking at 'No-Fee' apartments, I definitely recommend Loftey. The agents are knowledgeable and proactive and I'm sure that they will stick to your search criteria and only show you apartments without a fee if that is what you specify. However, because I was willing to see apartments with a fee as well, I feel that I would have been better off in my negotiation of the broker fee if I had just gone out on my own. read more

The people I talked to were generally nice and professional, but in general really limited selection and only want to show you stuff where they have a pre-existing special arrangement. Didn't end up being the right solution for me in this market. Also they won't even show you apartments or get you appointments unless you have a 5k budget (for a studio) and pretty inflexible on requirements not even willing to try unless you hit everything to a tee. Boast about their relationships but I don't think they have very many strong ones, as another broker was able to get me booked to see units despite still awaiting some outstanding documents. So glad I was able to cut the relationship (given they require exclusivity) before I got in too deep with them. have a feeling I would've ended up in a serious jam. read more

Loftey claims they are different, but they are just like every other broker: they are more motivated by getting their fee than actually finding you a great apartment. We contacted Loftey in early April for a June move-in. I know that's pretty early for NYC, but I've also moved around here enough times to know that if you find a place, jump on it because there are 3 people coming in the door as you are going out. I had hoped Loftey could help us find those early apartments, even if they weren't listed on the other apps yet. When the first response came back and the agent told us "there is no available June inventory" it just didn't sound right based on my past experience, but I re-iterated that he should let us know as soon as anything becomes available because we were eager to see as many places as possible. When we checked in mid-April and got the same answer, I decided to see for myself. We stopped by one building this weekend when we were in Hells Kitchen and asked if there were apartments available for a June move-in. Turns out there were 2 in that building that met all our needs and were within our budget. Encouraged by this, we walked across the street to 2 more buildings and found 7 more fantastic apartments that met every one of our requirements. How can Loftey claim they were working to find us the best apartment for our needs when we were able to find 9 without any work at all?! The only explanation I can think of is because the buildings were "no-fee" and so the agent wouldn't get paid his fee. This goes completely against everything this company claims to stand for and what supposedly sets them apart. Don't waste your time thinking Loftey is any different. They talk a good talk, but in the end, they are no different than any other broker. They want to get paid and so they will show you apartments that have fees. These days there's no reason to ever pay a fee (even a reduced one) with so many no-fee apartments available. As part of the on boarding process, one of their conditions of their service is that you need to write a review on social media. Be wary of these reviews as I suspect it's part of their conditions for getting the perks they claim to provide. Loftey, before you reply to this claiming I am a competing broker or some other excuse I've seen you post on other reviews, I invite everyone else to look at my few other, very normal reviews on Yelp. I had a really positive experience working with Loftey and would definitely encourage people to use the Loftey team if they're looking for a place in NYC. My roommates and I worked with Dylan and they were incredibly helpful in finding us an amazing apartment within our parameters (and under budget!!) It was our first time looking for an apartment in the city and before we went through Loftey, we tried to do the rental process ourselves via Streeteasy. I consider myself fairly tech savvy and thought it would be easy to set up viewings and rent a place without a broker or agent. However, after multiple unsuccessful trips into the city, bait-and-switches, fake listings, and hours of trying to coordinate open house times, we decided to use Loftey instead. Dylan vetted all the listings we sent him (and we were sending him 2-5 listings a day for a week or 2), arranged over 6 seamless viewings in one day, helped us organize our thoughts and compare the different apartments, and ultimately found us an amazing place with all the amenities we wanted, for under our budget. They also managed to get us access to some places that hadn't even been listed yet, which was also very helpful. I consider myself extremely picky when it comes to renting and while I was prepared to have to spend 2 full days doing back to back viewings to find a place that suited my requirements, we actually managed to find the perfect apartment in just one day of viewings. The whole process took about 2 weeks (it probably would have taken less time but I had a very restrictive schedule which Dylan worked around) and Loftey did all the heavy lifting like putting together and submitting our application, delivering the deposit checks, etc. We moved into our new apartment a couple weeks ago and we are so happy with it. I honestly don't think we would've been able to find such a great-value apartment as fast or easy as we did if we hadn't used Loftey. Loftey does guarantee a minimum of $25/month rent reduction and offers to negotiate broker's fee or reduced rent, and in my opinion, as long as you don't come in with unreasonable expectations for your budget or expecting additional discounts in an incredibly competitive housing market, you'll be impressed with using Loftey. read more

Looking for an apartment in NY can be really stressful, but Loftey helped us find our ideal apartment in a days time. We only had a week in NY before we had to go back to CA. We first searched for our apartment in the original manner, looking on StreetEasy for no-fee apartments, trying to align various agents' schedule into one day. We compiled several appointments over the course of 3 days and finally arranged to look at 10ish apartments on a Wednesday. As we toured each apartment, none of the apartments really fit our criteria, until the last one. The agent helped us sign, but last minute on Friday said the application was taken, despite us having put down a good faith deposit. As we panicked to sign another lease before our flight on Sunday, we were told to try out Loftey. They assigned an agent for free and you can provide them the criteria you're looking for; no-fee, desired price range, amenities, layout, location etc. We were assigned our agent, Alan, the same night day. He took us to more than 5 places back to back the next day and they were all better than the places we found ourselves. We signed our current apartment the same day and Alan did the rest of the work to help us lock in the place and try to lower the price. We didn't end up getting a lower price, but Loftey said they will send us a check! ($25 off our monthly, which is certainly better than nothing!) Loftey greatly removed the stress out of finding an apartment and without their help, we would not have been able to lock in an apartment to ship our items cross country. My boyfriend and I were skeptical when Tim told us that almost 98% of his clients find their new apartment on the first day. We became part of the statistic as we found our new home on that first day at our 3rd showing! Chris spent so much time working with me on vetting places. He was clearly an expert and helped me by realizing some of the listings I found on other websites were fake. Once again, I could not recommend using Loftey more. They take care of absolutely everything and truly invest in finding you a place that you'll love living in. I signed up for listings under the promise of "no fee" and when I responded to a listed apartment, the very first response was this typical, lying NYC real estate sleaze spew. "Thanks for making an appointment with Loftey! We'd love to tell you about this apartment and about the perks you get when you work with us. Please note that most units on our site in this price range are in fee buildings. Were you looking only for no fee?" If you are actually looking to avoid a broker fee - because it's a ripoff - Loftey won't help. They pretend to be no fee but then slip it in anyway. read more
