The Worst Experience with a Real Estate Lawyer I Have Ever Had It took me some time to write this because of all the emotions I have been going through, but in a nutshell, my purchase transaction for a condo in Manhattan fell through last week. I believe that Weidenbaum and Harari bears primary responsibility for the deal falling apart, and I deeply regret ever hiring them. A summary of what went wrong: * My case was assigned to a lawyer (Eugene Sarantis) who was on vacation and would not return until the following week. I was not happy that my case was being assigned to an associate out on vacation but I let it go. * [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was virtually impossible to get in contact with my lawyer. Despite my repeated attempts to reach Eugene via phone and e-mail, he did not respond to my request for an update until I directly asked one of the partners, Jack Harari, to intervene.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The first time I was actually able to speak with Eugene was 13 days after the contract had already been sent.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] * [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was not brought into the contract negotiations until the very end. I was not even sent a copy of the contract and riders until several days after they had been sent to Weidenbaum and Harari[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], and as referenced earlier, I was unable to speak with Eugene about the contract and provide input until 13 days into the contract negotiation process. * Revisions were made to the contract and riders without my knowledge or consent. During the 13 days before I was finally able to speak with Eugene, negotiations and changes were being made to the contract and riders without my consent, and in many cases, without my even knowing about the requested changes. Although I was initially told by Jack that the entire contract negotiation process would likely take 7-10 days, the contract was still not finalized 14 days after it had initially been sent. By that point, the seller had become extremely frustrated with the process and pulled out of the deal. In hindsight, I believe that my biggest mistake in this condo purchase transaction was hiring Weidenbaum and Harari to represent me. If I could do it over again, I would have hired a different legal team, and I genuinely believe that the outcome would have been different if I had. read more

I owned a coop in west village for several years. When the covid pandemic hit in 2020 I was out of the country and for financial reasons I needed to sell the apartment. Nicole, my business partner, found Weidenbaum & Harari to represent us during the sale. I would say It was the best financial decision in all of my years of real estate transactions. I would not recommend working with WH. I interviewed over 10 attorneys and although WH was on the pricier side, I chose to work with them as I had spoken with Jack ahead of getting an accepted offer and was excited about working with them. He had assured me he'd be a source of expertise (as I was a first time buyer) and be involved in the entire process. That turned to incredibly false. Jack was minimally involved and only jumped in when I repeatedly and explicitly addressed asks to him. WH was extremely reactive rather than proactive. We were on a more ambitious closing timeline of 45 days, however the seller, lender, and broker were all on the same page about our timeline. However, without my knowledge the associate on our team sent a note to the seller's attorney asking for a 60 day close, which understandably then caused confusion and hesitation with our seller. Weeks later, I sent an email to the associate and got an OOO response -- saying she'd be gone for close to 2 weeks during our 45 day closing. What was most concerning was that her OOO was never communicated with me, and in her absence I assumed Jack would step in. However, he simply threw another associate in who was playing catch up and repeatedly asked for materials we had already provided. All in all, throughout the entire process, working with WH was the biggest pain point across our entire team and if I were to do it again, I'd go with a different real estate attorney. read more

It was my first time buying a home and they were extremely helpful in walking me through the whole process. Jack Harari spent over an hour with me on the phone explaining everything to me (before I had even paid or agreed to retain them). I shopped around a bit for real estate attorneys, and I ended up choosing between W&H and another attorney. The W&H fee was maybe 50% higher than the fee for the other attorney, but I had a feeling that attorney fees were NOT the place to try and save money during a real estate purchase in New York City. That feeling turned out to be correct. My purchase deal, which seemed like it should have been extremely straightforward, ended up getting complicated and contentious. I was so glad that I had an experienced and well staffed firm to back me up, and that I didn't go with the more "discount" option. In my purchase deal W&H ended up saving me an amount of money exceeding their total fee due to catching something fishy that the seller's attorney tried to slip into the contract. At a certain point it even seemed like the seller's side was threatening litigation, but I was able to rest easy knowing that their lawyer probably didn't want to tangle with this firm. W&H also conducted a thorough investigation of the building's finances which really has helped me sleep well at night. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend W&H to anyone looking to buy in NYC. read more
