It was a bit weird to be strolling along and suddenly see gates marked with warnings against trespassing. That being said, if you stick close to the river it shouldn't be an issue. This is a lovely looking area, made oddly more fascinating by the nuclear smokestacks that are within eyesight on the river. On the off season you can walk out on to the ferry dock and get a full view of the Delaware River in all it's glory, if you can call it that. The paths in this park aren't very long, but it is a pleasant stroll from one end to the other. It's also a very dog friendly park, so I felt very out of the loop being the only person without a dog on a leash the day I went! The old gun batteries are interesting and hauntingly beautiful in the way that abandoned man-made structures usually are. Some portions are in greater disrepair than others, but the majority seem safe enough for exploring. If you're a history buff this would be a great way to spend an afternoon. Fort Mott is not your average park, and it's not even your average historical site. There's something about it that sticks with you. I found my mind wandering back to the landscape I encountered there in the week after my visit. Even though I never felt in danger, there's something a little unsettling about this place. That, as well as it's short trails, are what keep it from getting a perfect score from me. However, if you're in the area, I do recommend stopping by. At the very least you'll get a history lesson.

I have to tell myself this because I really wanted to rate them a 1. At the time of this review, I have placed the Yelp marker right on the spot where this place is located, since it does not have an official street address. It is basically on 45/Salem Woodstown Rd between Compromise Rd and the river? tributary? (this is unnamed on Google maps) whatever body of water comes up next (before you hit Acton Station Rd). I was in search of the Salem River Wildlife Management Area, but they provide specific directions on their website for this Mannington Marsh place, which is a long dirt-sand road to a lookout ramp and platform in the marsh. Why would it be 1 star? There is trash EVERYWHERE. Ew! I didn't want my toddler or dogs getting out of the car, it was gross! And it was random creepy trash too, like thrift store donations or stuff a homeless person didn't want and left behind after camping. This place needs to be cleaned up. Yuk! Also, the observation ramp and platform were completely vandalized, with a lot of the spindles kicked out. It's totally unsafe for kids and dogs, so I was out of my mind worrying about their safety. And, I love graffiti. I have made art pieces of graffiti, bathroom style graffiti, no less. But the stuff written on this platform made me terrified my kid would get an STI from touching it. I am shivering from the memory! Signage is only visible from one direction, so if you approach from the NE (like I did) good luck seeing where they are (especially since they have no address and you can't plug that into your GPS). What else? The platform was not built high enough to rise above the reeds, so you can't see anything from the lookout! Ridiculous! The dirt road has huge dips that fill with water, and create miserable driving if you don't have an SUV or truck. Very frustrating. And there are no trails, clearings, picnic areas, restrooms, nor even a trash can. So this is a painful journey just to go up a ramp and not be able to see anything but marsh flora. I could hear spectacular bird sounds, which made it even more exasperating that I couldn't see them. Way up in the sky, I could see a gigantic flock passing over (they were too far to ID the type of bird), and that was cool, but the birds hooting like 30 feet in front of me, I couldn't see. Seriously, this place has a lot of issues, and I wish I'd known before I made an hour's detour on my way home from the beach, and upset my kid and dogs. I was hoping for a park-like habitat with trails and acres to roam. This is not it! You've been warned!

I had no idea the fort served as a prison housing confederate soldiers during the civil war and the replica prison barracks were interesting. Bring sunscreen and insect repellent. The mosquitoes are fierce if there's no wind. Repellent is sold in the visitor center and the shop if you forget it. Worth visiting and I'm glad we did.

It's a small gift shop and a place to buy tickets, and then the boat leaves on the half hour to the fort. This is a lesser-known Civil War site because it didn't see any battle action, but it was a great representation of an army strong hold + POW encampment. My favorite part was the reenactors who are in period dress and are there for discussion of life on site in 1864. These actors are incredibly knowledgeable, and when I went it wasn't crowded, so it allowed for a good discourse asking them about their occupation and role at the fort. Then there are plenty of rooms to walk through with self-guided signs. Restrooms and a small shop for souvenirs/water is available. There is also a midday boat ride to Fort Mott, but I didn't have the time to travel there. A tram gets you to and from boat to fort. If you keep an eye on the time, it's very reliable. Every employee seemed very enthusiastic about the site, which helped make the experience special. It was a great historic site and one I hope more people go visit.

It took us just shy of an hour to go through, but we could've spent longer if we had read every piece of material and took in every photo in the collection. Marlton Park is a vast open space, with various sports fields, for football (with lights), baseball, and soccer. They have at least 2 playgrounds that I saw, as well as picnic pavilions, trash cans, restrooms, and benches. There is a paved walking trail circling much of the park too. The entrance I used was almost missed because it's a gravel driveway with a small sign, in the middle of a residential neighborhood. So slow down as you approach, and keep eyes peeled. The larger playground (see my photos) had newer equipment, which was very fun! The double slide here is really fast, I was surpsied how fast my toddler slid compared to this same design I've put him on at a million other playgrounds. My son loved it. My dogs got excited by the open views across the fields, and were grateful to have an expanse where they could roam. Great greenspace for lots of family fun!

I thought I'd pop in for a nice walk since the weather was nice and it was a great way to reset! The park consists of many walking trails even hiking trails if you're feeling adventurous. It's clean and a great place to picnic or walk your dog. There are flowering trees and a vast array of daffodils throughout. I even found a man painting, easel and all! I came here because eBird told me it was a birding "hotspot" - but I didn't see one thing besides some Canada Geese and a few gulls. I don't think I'll be returning for birding or hiking. This pathway is really good for runners and joggers...that's about it, in my opinion. Oh, how could I forget...they also charge a fee for you to enter!! I just don't get it. There are so many other outdoor places where you can see more, do more, and pay NOTHING!

The grounds are well kept and the bathrooms were surprisingly clean. There are park rangers that come by from time to time. The day we went it wasn't crowded which is a plus. You do have to pay for parking $4 if you live in Del $8 if you live out of state. No complaints with this park. There are plenty of trash and with extra trash bags for easy clean up.
