Carousel is a great place to spend an afternoon. There is a huge dog park with a dog beach (!) for swimming, and lots of room for you and your dogs to walk. You can fish in the big pond, and there's a separate turtle pond full of cute turtles. The park is hilly and full of trails, so if you're up for a challenging run, this is a good place to do it. There are long slow hills and short steep hills, both of which kick my ass pretty thoroughly. There's a gravel road running through the park, so mountain bikes come here too. For horses and riders, Carousel offers awesome hacking and a nice cross country course, including a bank, ditch, and water, that you can school almost anytime as long as you call ahead. Their starter horse trials in the summer are great for those new to the sport. read more

FOR THE DOG PARK ONLY: This is the best dog park EVER! It is a totally wide open space with lots of hills. Because it is such a large space with no fence, the aggressive behavior and fights that you may see in smaller dog parks are few and far between. A few things to keep in mind: there are no water bowls and there are only poop bags at the entrance - so grab a few when you come in! Also, if you don't want your dog to get in the water, don't bother coming. Once one of them goes in, they all do! read more

I absolutely love this park. There are a few different trails to take and there is a large variety of what you can see. There is a turtle pond that really does have a lot of turtles you can watch. Then there are the horses and goats and llamas and ducks... for children it is really a wonderful place to explore. I like taking my dog for a walk here and I always feel safe. read more

A huge, well maintained beautiful park open for public use. There's a Bark Park for unleashed dogs, but it's tricky to find. There's a small parking lot on the Skyline Drive end of Carousel. It's a good size dog park with accesses to a large pond, some agility equipment and lots of hills for exercise. There's a small wooded trail as well, but be warned, it gets muddy. My Dane sniffs out every mud whole in a mile radius and he found a big one in this wooded area. To get to the lot, I took Limestone Rd (Hwy 7) to New Linden to Skyline. The entrance is near the Skyline Methodist Church, but on the other side of the street. From the small gravel parking lot, you'll walk across a field to get to the off-leash area. You'll see a gravel bar with dog bags and a trash can straight ahead, and beyond there is the off leash part. There aren't many signs, so follow others with dogs if you get confused, it usually helps. Also note that this is a big dog park, but it's not completely fenced in. Give it a shot anyway. This put me off of visiting for awhile, but it's really so big that my dog never gets near a road, and there's trees blocking road access as well. As long as your dog listens in case he does get close, you'll both be fine. Road accesses are often behind two white (incomplete) fence rows, so that gives you a heads up, as well as the road noise. We didn't have trouble with mean dogs here, luckily, because some of the humans were attached to their phones instead of watching their dogs. This happens at nearly every dog park, but on the day we visited, all the dogs were friendly. read more

Very beautiful park with nice trails for walking. I still prefer the Newark Reservoir (which I can walk to from my house) but this is a nice alternative. It's very pretty in the fall with the leaves, and they always host camping events that I used to go to when I was younger (I remember one drunk driver slammed through the white fences and drove into the camping area. Thankfully, I don't think anyone was hurt. Looking back, I think it's kind of funny that someone ran through the fence at 2 in the morning. What an idiot.) Anyway, go to Carousel Park if you want to get some good steps in and still be able to enjoy the atmosphere and surroundings. read more

Hubby and I are always looking for new places to hike and explore with our golden retriever Riley so when I saw a friend post photos on Facebook of this park we decided on an impromptu road trip. The park is huge, over 200 acres to explore with something for everyone. There are stables where they do pony rides and other activities along with other animals to see like peacocks, goats and llamas and entrance is free. The area where the stables are is set up like an old wild west town with building fronts like a Saloon, School House, General Store, etc. and lots of different trails that kids and adults will both love, especially the trail that leads to the turtle pond and little waterfall. These stables house the New Castle County Mounted Patrol and you can see and interact with all the horses, my favorites were the clydesdales. On the other side of the center is the Dog Park where they have a huge open field and pond for dogs to play and swim off leash. We met so many nice people when we were there last Saturday afternoon and all the dogs were well mannered and even though this area is not fenced in it is a good bit off from the road area so as long as your dog isn't an escape artist you should be good. Looking forward to going back and also checking out some other parks in the area. read more

This area is a hot spot for breaking into cars. If you park on the side road (closest to the dog area) be wise and don't leave anything in eyesight. My car windows are tinted very dark and still were smashed in and a purse stolen and I noticed afterwards, all the broken glass on the ground in the parking lot. I called the police to make a report for my insurance company and they never came. When I called them back they told me it's happens all the time and to be more careful...? It would be a great place if it weren't in such a bad area. read more

Dog park is great. No fenses and its off leash. No big and small dogs arent seperated. Its about 3 acres on the dog side outlined by trees as the barrier. A lake for dogs to jump in. Great open dog park that your dogs can really feel free read more

Carousel offers riding lessons for kids 4 years old and up. Their horses are well cared for, the facility is good, and the instructors keep things very safe. My daughter has attended lessons here for 2+ years. It's a great way to introduce riding in small doses if you can't afford/do not want to keep a horse or pony of your own. Our favorite instructor is Sophie, but they're all good. read more

Nice place to ride. Haven't been in about a year or so but Alright maintained xc course. One BIG complaint is that there are no fences that separates the dog park from the horse area. (Hopefully this has changed but if it hasn't....) As I was cantering up the bank, 3 dogs ran out and spooked my horse. I stayed on but the dogs proceeded to chase us and bark as we were trying to jump. The owners came up and laughed about it like it was cool to see a horse and their dogs running together could have been very dangerous (as I don't believe the park is totally fenced in and located next to very busy roads.) very nice place. Needs to separate dogs and horses if they want to cater to both. read more

I called to schedule my child's 8th birthday party there. I was informed pony rides would be held there on May 19, 2012 from 11-2pm and their sign stated this information as well. However, once my party arrived we were informed the pony rides were canceled. All the children at the party were devastated. One staff member said come back in five minutes and the kids could feed the horses. When we came back in five minutes no staff were able to be found. When I called the office to complain there response was a flat "sorry to hear that". Never plan your chld's birthday party here! Their uncaring and lack customer service skills! read more

My 4 year old has been taking lessons for the last 6 or so weeks. The lessons are fine, her current trainer is excellent. But the communication and paperwork part of it has been beyond painful. When I first wanted to sign her up, it took 3 voicemails with no return calls; 2 emails; and finally an in person visit to get it done. Then it took 2 visits and emails to confirm the days and times of lessons. Then we had 3-4 (honestly - I lost count) different trainers (each that promised to communicate with the next, but never did so we started over again each time). The one we have now is the one we have had for several lessons and is the best. One lesson was shortened due to an injured trainer and I received an email that a makeup class would be held. I put it on my calendar. Then last week the trainer had a family emergency. I was emailed that a makeup lesson would be scheduled. Then today, the main office told me that there are no makeup lessons on record. The excuse for the poor record keeping, missing information, inability to communicate: "The person who was in charge did a terrible job and is no longer here." If this was a FREE program - fine. But I am paying money, taking time out of my workday, and entrusting my child's safety to these people that have excuse after excuse (if and when they bother to respond!) and fingers pointing in every direction but their own, for their dysfunction and incompetence. read more
