When I moved to Nashua 20+ years ago, this was an area of town you stayed away from at night. Now with Riverwalk Café and Fodies it's an incredible place to be. This was my first time at Riverwalk Café and didn't know what to expect but I've been to Fodies several times and love it there. We went to Riverwalk to see Sarah Blacker perform and weren't expecting much from the menu. The food we got was great. Let me start by saying I'm a burger and fries, BBQ, or meat-lover pizza kind of guy. So, this menu was out of my comfort zone. It's not a blue collar menu to say the least. Kinda bohemian (They don't know what a real pizza is). And it's not extensive. Having said that and the fact that we were really only there to see Sarah play, we both got the soup - a sausage, lentil soup. It was amazing and I wanted more. I ordered the Samosa appetizer not knowing what the hell it was. It was ok. I think it would probably be delicious to people who like that kind of thing. If they threw some sausage in it they might have something. My wife got the Asian Kale salad and I got the Barcelona salad. I'm really not a salad lover. But I gotta tell you, I liked it. My wife loved hers. The coffee was really great. We didn't try the desserts but they have a case of them and they look incredible. It was hard to resist. The waitress was adorable and attentive. Everyone that worked there were very nice. The place is very comfortable and clean. Prices are reasonable. It won't be a destination for me to get food, but I will go there for the music and I know the food won't suck. It's a great place for music! My wife and her friends could go there just for the salads. For those of you who like live music in an intimate setting, you'll like this place. This place was a go-to spot when I was attending graduate school. Whether it was early morning research or late evening paper writing I could always count on a great coffee and bite to keep me going. I've had adult beverages here during some live music performances as well and I have yet to be disappointed. The Classy Shroom sandwich and Toffee Lover's Latte have been longtime favorites of mine. I'm always happy to dine inside the cozy atmosphere or outside on a sunny day. One downside is that the parking can be tough during busy daytime hours and on weekends but I can assure you, the raspberry bars and other bakery items alone are worth it. I also have attended some of their mini craft fairs which display local artists' work and I think that has been a nice added touch. It is a place where I would hope everyone feels welcome to come unwind and enjoy good food, drink, music and art. read more

Here's a quick story. I picked up my girl after stopping at DD for an ice coffee. She mentioned stopping at the Riverwalk Cafe for lunch. We had gone there before and it was Ok. We ordered and had just paid for our lunch, when the boy at the register told me I had to eat outside because of my DD coffee. We went around about it for a minute , when I noticed my girlfriend was embarrassed. So I ended it and headed outside, into the heat. On the way out, I heard someone loudly complimenting the boy about how he handled the situation. He may have won that battle, but he lost a customer. So tell me.... did he REALLY win?. read more

The drinks are terrible, the food is mediocre at best. It's pretentious for the sake of pretentiousness and draws the crowd you'd expect. I really didn't see what all the fuss was about. Ive always came to this place with my family for brunch and a good coffee but recently (the past 2 times) I've went to Riverwalk and there is an employee with dark brown hair and she's tall who completely doesn't know what she is doing. She is definitely a newer employee which I get but she is unsure of what she's doing and quite honestly makes me feel uncomfortable. She was a little rude to top it off as well. Not impressed. I am a coffee snob, and I find this to be the best coffee you can get. He also, occasionally, makes orange blueberry muffins that are delectable. He roasts his own beans there about twice a week, so it's always fresh. Highly recommended. ~~~~ OK, it's a few months later, and I'd just like to add that I have now tried most of his sandwich and panini offerings, and find them all to be excellent. The meats are of the highest quality, the bread, a specially imported ciabatta (yes, I ask a lot of questions), and the cheese and vegetables are always fresh. Though it's my favorite coffee shop, I find myself going there more and more for the food as well. On a side note, just because I have a strong streak of fairness in me, I have a bone to pick with Bonhoeffer's, the coffee shop that opened across the street from Riverwalk. Aside from the fact that their coffee is subpar, a different issue entirely, I find it unethical that a church can open a retail enterprise, use its status as a church to get special treatment, and an unfair competitive advantage, and compete with other local businesses. People complain about the Walmarts of the world, because they come into smaller towns, use their economies of scale to drive out local, smaller business (who often offer a superior product) and leave the area the poorer for the exchange. This strikes me as a similar situation. A tax exempt coffee shop opens up, serves an inferior product, does not tax their sale, because of an unethical tax loophole, and puts added stress on other, hard working, local businesses (in, I would add, an already bad economy) who are trying their best to make ends meet. Bonhoeffer's, literally and figuratively, leaves a bad taste in my mouth. read more

It's pricey...they don't have a lot of variety. Their breakfast sandwich is very good and their coffee is great. The place itself is adorable and very eclectic. I just don't like being crowded when I'm eating. And it's always crowded. I feel as though it's more of a new agey type of place, and they often run out of certain things. I like to go there for a cup of coffee occasionally, and I would like to take in one of the bands there,, but seriously their covers are very high and I know there's no room in there. I would seriously recommend remodeling and adding some space especially if you have bands. There is just no room. read more

A nice little place that has some decent pastries and coffee flavors. The atmosphere is nice and quiet, parking kinda sucks but that's not a big deal. They have a Crem Brulee (ms?) flavored Ice Coffee that's excellent. If it was easier to get to and park at...it would do much better. Home to one of the best sandwiches I've had in recent memory. They take a bit of time to prepare, because each is a labor of love. I had the chicken Reuben and my partner had the regular Reuben which I stole a bite of. The chicken Reuben was more inspired by a Reuben in that it had a shredded cabbage component, and Russian dressing. So it didn't taste like a Reuben, but it was really good. This review is based solely on food / drinks here and not the music bar portion of the establishment. I really hate to be a Debbie Downer about this place but I have been so disappointed with everything since their renovation (at least that is when I noticed a difference). We used to come here every weekend for coffee and sandwiches / pastries and really enjoyed it. It is perfectly located off main street, they have a good drink variety and a handful of different food options. The chicken reuben sandwich was by far my favorite. However, the past few times our sandwiches haven't been on top of their game and lacked the pop and flavors that we have always been used to and the drinks have been very watered down and flavorless. Found Riverwalk thru Yelping "desserts". We were in the area for some shopping and in search of a coffee/dessert place. The parking lot was full so we parked across the street. Upon entering, we noticed people in line for the band. When greeted at the hosted station, we were given the option of sitting in the front area where there are tables and chairs where you could hear but not see the band or pay a cover and sit "inside" which was on the other side of the hostess station. Knowing we couldn't stay long, we opted for the seating at the front of the cafe. A waitress came over within minutes with menus. We decided on a latte with almond milk, a cafe au lait with almond milk, pecan bar and a heated apple strudel. The strudel took a bit to heat (maybe 10-15 minutes) but was worth the wait. The pecan bar was cold but very good, not too sweet. The drinks were both a bit strong for our taste and I though mine needed a little sweetener. The band was loud enough to be heard in the cafe, the atmosphere was very comfortable and relaxing, a nice place to bring a book or to sit and chat. Our tab without tip was $17. read more
