Gave this place a try because of the good reviews. When I walked in it was a bit unsettling but still open-minded. As I was waited for the food, I saw a mouse run behind the counter. Joann's is a bit gritty and the front of the restaurant isn't the normal "diner" facade but the service, prices, food and interior were all excellent. We decided to give this place a try after reading the reviews. The restaurant is small and narrow, though it isn't very cramped. The wall is adorned with framed pictures and the seating choices are either booth or counter. When we arrived, most of the booths were occupied except for one near the back of the wall. We had a choice of either sitting at the counter or the booth. I opted for the booth. Daughter order the Irish eggs Benedict, which was 2 eggs, hash, hollandaise on a grilled English muffin with home fries. Our server asked if she wanted peppers and onions with her home fries and she said yes. She liked it a lot and said that she never had a Benedict with corned beef hash in it before. She said that she loves poached eggs and corned beef hash together and thought it was a great combination. Hubs ordered a hamburger and requested to be as rare as possible along with raw onions. He substituted fries for onion rings. The burger came out the way he expected it to come out, almost well done. It was greasy, which saved the burger. He liked it and thought it was tasty but fatty. He hasn't had one like this in a while. All the burgers these days are lean, so this was a good change. Finally, I had the banana pancakes which came with 3 pancakes. I loved it and thought it was nice and fluffy. Daughter loved it and shared them with me. I also requested real maple syrup, as opposed to the fake one. It was an extra charge for $1.25. The place feels like it needs a good renovation. Judging from the doors' appearance, the restrooms looks really tight and narrow. Apparently, there is a parking lot in the back of the diner. Everyone was going through this narrow door, which looks like it led to the kitchen and the parking lot. I didn't go checking it out but can only surmise that's where everyone was going. We enjoyed a late breakfast/early lunch on Wednesday, taking advantage of their outdoor dining area. Tons of space, waitress was careful to distance whenever possible, we felt very safe. And with the umbrellas and a light breeze blowing it was actually extremely pleasant. From a food perspective Joanne's provides a solid diner experience at an amazingly reasonable price. Breakfast has all the usual suspects, lunch provides a nice sandwich, salad and main course selection. Plus daily specials. Everything very nicely done, well presented. At times, I've been creeped out walking by this place when it's closed. On occasion, I've seen homeless hanging out in the covered entrance way However, I still wanted to have breakfast here so I could yelp it. I stopped in on a Saturday morning. The customers were mostly local old timers at the lunch counter and a few families sitting in booths. The place is set up like an old diner with old tile floors, booths to the left and a long lunch counter with stools to the right and the kitchen straight back. The lunch counter is lined up with vintage items and each stool is patterned with old Chrysler cars including a 1973 Blue Plymouth Duster, my Mom's first big boat (car). The very basic breakfast menu offerings include eggs, omelets, pancakes, French toast, and home fries. They have a posted $5.45 breakfast special which includes a house omelet, homefries, toast, juice, and coffee. I was offered coffee ($1.25) as soon I seated myself at the lunch counter. I had a Western Sandwich on wheat ($3.35) and homefries ($1.75 very potatoey and heavy) which were okay, nothing special. The service was pretty good and courteous with frequent top offs on the coffee. Overall, a decent breakfast place where the old locals hang. read more

I go to Joanne's every Thursday for breakfast. It's a classic diner with all the typical breakfast foods. The waitresses take the time to know their regular customers by name, what they order, and the food is always great. If you are looking to meet new and interesting people, I recommend sitting at the counter. I just recently met a man that does wood carving as a hobby and brought in a cowboy hat carved entirely from wood. Are you serious? There are still establishments like this out there? When I walked in, I thought I walked through a time warp and not in a quaint way either!! I can't believe that this place has the rave reviews that it does. When I pulled up to the shop, I wanted to keep driving. The entrance is tiny and scary looking with skeptical looking people hanging by the door. But after reading the reviews, I figured this was going to be a good local hole in the wall ... awesome place .. WRONG! So, the place is dingy and very dated (not shabby chic). The tables are covered in plastic and there are menus underneath the plastic on each table. The menu paper is so old that the edges are brown and the print is hard to read. There are barely any options for drinks. No fountain drinks, no iced tea, no iced coffee. Just canned soda (the cans are so old because I don't remember any of the can designs that they currently have). The waitress was probably in her late 70s / early 80s, but she was sharp! The only thing is ... she was complaining to the other customers about how the hospital lost power during a nuclear scan and she had to go back this afternoon for a repeat scan. She kept talking about the radioactive material they injected into her (I'm pretty sure that you shouldn't be serving food or being with the public immediately after radioactive treatments). SCARY! I ordered a cheese omelet, rye toast (I was told they charge extra for rye), and an orange juice. The food came very quick and looked bleak. I could have cooked a better breakfast at home. It didn't taste bad, but I couldn't wait to get out of there. The customers at the bar stools (I assume they are regulars) were hacking (smokers' cough) and I was getting grossed out by all the potential germs in the area. The kicker - none of them were covering their mouths when coughing. Next time I'm in town ... I will go with my gut instinct ... just keep driving!! read more

I've been here many times and assumed I must have reviewed it on Yelp. But nope, so here goes: Downtown Nashua has a number of places for breakfast. In a 3-4 block are there's Jackie's: good for muffins and pancakes, but small and often crowded; Norton's - a bit bigger, decent generally, but 50's themed (I I want to eat in Disneyland, I'll go there). Joanne's is a walk back in time. The only thing that has changed in the ten years I've been going there is that some of the brick-a-brac is dustier and I expect not much else has changed in the thirty years preceding. Including the staff. Service is friendly and efficient. They have enough booths that a single person with a paper can sit for a while. All of the booth tables are tilted a bit. This matches the clientele, most of whom are regulars. Very regulars. Everyone knows each other and the waitresses know the regular's orders. People talk across the booths. Nearly everybody in there (except me) is on Social Security. In addition to the senior set, the welcoming low-key atmosphere attracts some of society's walking wounded and down and out. There is an occasional family. It's great. The food is basic diner breakfast, nothing particularly special really, but fine. If the cook breaks one of your over-easies he'll give you an extra. They keep your cup full coffee full. Great place. Go the extra dough and order a ham steak slice, rather than ham with your eggs. Ditto for rye toast. Also, it's CASH ONLY. AWESOME place! Upon moving into town the day before a snowstorm that shut down a lot of southern NH, (and thats saying a mouthfull for southern NH)... We walked to Joanne's in hopes of finding a good 'greasy spoon' type place near our new home. Joanne's delivers on every level what you want in a 'downhome diner'. Dated decor, menus with handwritten additions and dropped items. Most of all? Prices are diner cheap, food is diner great, and the people are diner friendly.... A tiny train car wedged in between up and coming buildings on Main St in Nashua, Joanne's is easy to miss.... But we wont forget it's there! read more

We've lived in town for 15+ years and have never been here before today. Not sure I even knew it was there! A very small and unassuming entryway on Main St. Today we decided to check it out, hoping to find a hidden gem. The atmosphere looks original to the diner (our server has been there 31 years so the diner at least that long) but some of the memorabilia was fun to look at. The majority of guests on a Monday morning would fit the same description. The food was fine. Edible but nothing worth mentioning. There were no artificial sweeteners, jams, etc on the table but the server added ketchup without my husband asking which made him happy. She was also very attentive to coffee top-offs, pleasant and accurate. I can't say our experience was bad but we won't be back. read more

This is by far one of Nashua's Hidden treasures. I friend of mine turned me on to this little tiny Place. If you don't look carefully you will miss it if your driving up the street. There is a really cool waitress that works there, somewhere between 60 and 70 years old (I hope I did not offend her about the age range) She Is so frigging cool and really funny. Went in there once - just for a cup of coffee to go, because I like to find small, local alternatives to the big chain coffee shops. I have to say I got nothing but attitude - sighs and scowls - particularly when I asked for the cup to be actually filled with coffee - not 3/5 full which is how she filled it.
