I am a big fan of Cafe On The Oval!!! I have been getting breakfast here since I moved to Milford in 2022! Absolutely love the staff and the food. This is the spot I bring family and friends to whenever we are looking to go out to breakfast! The homemade cinnamon roll is always a hit, and even though I can't have it since I'm GF, everyone who can digest gluten is obsessed with it!! They do have GF options, but it's not specified on the menu. They have GF toast and a dedicated grill section for pan fries. French toast is very good here for being GF. The staff and the vibe of this place is really what makes it special to me. The collaboration between all the servers and staff sets this place apart from the rest. I was there this past weekend, and it was nice for a familiar server also recognized me as a familiar face. I was also made aware of a contest to see how many eggs they cracked in a week- and I took a guess and ended up winning a $50 gift card! Made my day! First time eating here, it was just ok. Will try River House next time I'm in the area. We were a party of 4 and had a 5 minute wait for a seat which was fine. When seated in a cramped corner next to the waitress station we asked for this other open table. Were told no it needs to be saved for a party of 6. OK I get it but the table we had shouldn't even be an option as all the wait staff were 6 inches from my back, coming and going. Food was just OK. I had the turkey club and the rest of the party had breakfast. Plenty of wait staff on duty and we had different ones coming to the table during the meal. When the checks were brought it was very rude, she barked out the order to see whose it was then handed each of us our checks. No thank you or pleasantries. We love going there for lunch just to get breakfast seeing my husband don't get home til 1pm. Working random days he asked if I wanted to go. I can eat breakfast anytime of day. Visited for breakfast on Thursday, we were seated immediately. Waitress was quick and efficient, but she was just all business the kind that just looks stressed and rushing around. There were 2 waitresses that worked the room (the other one was more chill), and there were a number of tables, so they were busy but.... The food was ok, but the hash browns were undercooked (even though they had a nice brown crust on both sides) and the home fries were over cooked and mushy. This place is well staffed and is good at getting diners in and out. The food is very well cooked. I love the pan fries and the toast is well buttered and made with homemade bread. Service is prompt and attentive. However, there are areas they could improve. I find their specials uninspired and rarely order one. Also, I am unable to drink black tea but that is the only tea they offer.On a good day I remember and bring an herbal tea bag with me and ask for hot water. I've been wanting to try this place as I drive by it all the time. I stopped in the early morning (like 510am - traveling from camp to WFH office) hoping for a quick tasty bite. I was not disappointed! As I walked in the friendly and very attentive waitress asked if I wanted coffee. It was served immediately. I ordered the veggie omelette which was promptly made and served. It came with toast (big variety) and home fries. It was good portion and very tasty. I would order that again. I think next visit will be the asparagus omelette special. The place was very clean and was neat to watch the light traffic go by the Milford circle. It felt homey as this was a place where it appears the locals visit frequently. She called them by name. Felt like good-ole fashion small town USA. Overall I was out of there in a 1/2 hour or less (which is important to me) and working in my Mass. office just over the line before 6am. I'll be back! We couldn't get into the Riverhouse Cafe so we decided to try a new place. Cafe on the Oval is what I would consider to be a "family restaurant." There were lots of young families (20s and 30s) with children eating there, including many groups with over five people. Other tables consisted of couples and singles from age 50 to 90 years old. I heard a few waitresses greet customers by their first names, so I assume those were "regulars." Our hostess greeted us and quickly assigned us a table. Our waitress was right there to get our drink order. We got the feeling they turn tables fairly quickly here. Our breakfast arrived in under ten minutes. We each had omelets and they tasted good. However, there was nothing special about them. It was just a typical omelet with home fries and toast. One very positive thing about the breakfast was the homemade maple toast. You could really taste the maple and it was delicious. Overall this place served a good quality, solid breakfast for a bit less money than the Riverhouse Cafe. read more

We'd been to the nearby indoor farmer's market and wanted to find a nice spot for some late breakfast, a cup of coffee and some friendly people-watching. A local vendor pointed us up the street to 'cafe in the oval,' and that's how we found it. My wife got two giant whole wheat pancakes and some bacon, I got the 3-egg bacon and cheese omelette, we both had some bottomless coffee. Very busy shop so there were lots of people to watch. This place is the best!! It's clean, the staff is incredible and I love the fact you can see into the kitchen to see who is cooking your food. It gives the place an ole fashion diner feeling. I have on several occasions asked the Chef Lee Collins to make me a special order and he always comes through. I'm a huge fan of the blueberry pancakes and the French toast it's never soggy. My mum loves the strawberry waffles. And the best part is there's always leftovers for a snack after you wake up from the first round of your food coma after leaving. This was my 2nd time here and this time i got the western with side of sausage. I really have to say i did not like it. The sausage tasted weird never tasted anything like it hard to explain what it tasted like. The western i ate a quarter of it because it was making me gag to be honest. I think it was the way they prepped the onions n peppers. The onions and peppers were really finely chopped and suspect were in a container and when used they scoop it which scoops up the juices and that's why i was gagging. The omelet tasted weird so i didn't eat it. Waitress just said are you done i said yes and she handed me my check. I was really surprised she didn't ask me why i didn't eat it. I would have told her. It was my first visit to the cafe on the oval. The food was average to poor. My chicken and rice soup was extremely salty, Reuben was sub par, and the onion rings had a fishy taste to them. What was worse than the food was the service by the grumpy servers and manager waiting tables. They were in a hurry to get us out. They never refilled our beverages and when I said quietly to my friend that I thought we were the last customers in there, the owner yelled "you are". My son and I felt rushed as soon as we sat down. Three different waitresses asked us if we were ready to order in less than 2 minutes. My eggs were undercooked, and the order came without toast. I had no idea if the order said toast came with it because I didn't get a chance to read the menu thoroughly. You're about to start the weekend with the kids and you want to set the mood as "happy". You've got $10 total in your pocket and want real food. Cafe on the Oval is your place. This is a diner atmosphere with a good hometown crowd. There are two doors to the place but you enter on the right and can make an "oval" around the place to exit through the second set. Booth seats and tables line both sides with the counter at the back of the room. There are plenty of people in here but everyone is pleasant and respectful of other guests. This is a cafe and serves breakfast and lunch. Specials are posted in a couple of places and easy to see. However, they are not easy to choose from as everything sounds delicious. I usually have corned beef hash and scrambled with the home made maple bread toast. Please try the maple bread. It's not overly sweet, but reminiscent of molasses bread. Good stuff. Coffee is standard regular or decaf, but I appreciate that they carry a selection of Bigelow tea, for days when I'm not needing caffeine or want something green or fruity. Service is swift and done with smiles. You can see the kitchen grill from certain seats and everything is being done efficiently and properly. Sometimes the cook will catch the eye of a youngster at the counter and entertain them with winks and funny faces while he works. Cafe on the Oval is like going over to a friend's house for breakfast, but he's invited a few more friends to share the meal. And he's a pretty good cook, to boot. read more

When we got to the Café there were already five parties waiting. It was very crowded but the wait turned out to be only about 5-10 minutes. They have a wide range of breakfast choices from the standard bacon & eggs to pumpkin pancakes with hot apple slices. I ordered 2 eggs, sausage and pancakes which was very good. My sons got the pumpkin pancakes which was a big hit and my wife got the breakfast sandwich which she liked very much. The service was good, quick and friendly. The prices seemed to range from $4.00 to about $8.00 for breakfast. They had a large staff that was working very hard. Someone was always refilling my coffee cup and asking if we needed anything. I have always liked this place! I can remember when it first opened, but then it was called Lucille's. Now they've expanded, but they're still on the Milford oval. Lots of free parking available. Decent, not amazing but decent. I went here with my mom a while ago and it was pretty nice, great place to go if you just want some filling food for a cheap price. The aesthetic of the place is nothing to call home about, but it's simple and that's good about it. When I got my home fries, most of them where undercooked but everything else was decent. They said they had no maple syrup, and that made me slightly sad because I had nothing to put on my french toast. Service was quick and they where nice. read more
