I have eaten at the Grill before this visit and on my last visit, loved my salmon salad (a special that day). Yesterday I ordered the Asian Ginger Shrimp Bowl. The shrimp were tasteless and I did not taste any hint of ginger. Rather than walk out without saying anything, I let my server know. She took away my leftovers and that was that. We are staying at the hotel, so we decided to try this restaurant so we did not have to leave the premises. Positives: Caramel Cocoa Coffee, lobster bisque, friendly staff, nice view. Negatives: Perch dinner was NOT perch, bland rice, bland undercooked broccoli, coconut shrimp was crunchy outside/mushy inside, sweet potato fries were not fries but instead huge wedges that were half undercooked as well. My sisters, mother and I went to Riverwalk Grill to celebrate my sister's birthday. Everything was great... the service, the food, the comfortable table by the window. Mom had a Cajun pasta which she enjoyed. First sister had a pot roast dinner she raved about and the other three of us had a chicken salad on a croissant with soup or salad. Food was great! Sauce on the meatloaf was top notch! Service was quick and waitress was quick! Food came out in less than 15 minutes! Atmosphere was mellow and updated. Really enjoyed all the windows from our seat with a nice view. 4 star is because they didn't have my what I originally wanted and was not told prior to trying to order. What a nice place to stop for drinks. The menu looked like some great food but we chose just the pretzel sticks with beer cheese. They were delish. Tyler was an awesome bartender. He made me great Michigan cherry mule that I'll definitely go back for again. I look forward to going back to try different menu items. read more

This was a waste of time & money. The worst bartender and waitstaff I have had in a VERY long time. For the two of us, one drink ONLY it was $86.01 ridiculous, for the quality of service, the quality of food and the quality of our beverage from the bar. Just awful! Quite a disappointment, for a HOLIDAY I was expecting small touches of exquisite cuisine. IF there was a pastry chef, they hit the mark, good job. However, the wait staff, also did not offer us water or coffee. And I literally had to get up and get my own silverware. With a mandatory 20% gratuity... We felt taken advantage of. In our large party, four of us ordered the same drink it was so awful we left it sitting on the table. After two sips. (Blood Mary could have been used for steak marinade.) The waitress never asked if there was something wrong with it. Negligence on her part, not paying attention to her patrons. As there are basically no higher end dining options in the area, we decided to try this place. Nice setting on the River with live entertainment. Those are the only good things. Food was mediocre and overpriced for what it was. Service, hard to even describe. We couldn't figure out if they were all mad at each other, hate their jobs or perhaps have never worked in a restaurant before. Our server made certain we knew she just didn't want to be there. As I took a bite from my entree, she asked if we wanted dessert. When we replied that we didn't know yet (since I was still eating my entree!), she quipped back "well I'm leaving soon so....". Won't waste our time or money on this place again and certainly would not recommend it to anyone. read more

We went to the Riverwalk Grill with friends for a night out. There was no hostess at the bar entrance and many empty tables so we walked in and sat down. Within minutes a man walked in and stated we were not allowed to simply walk in and seat ourselves if we expected to be served and he asked us to leave until he could validate his book. After we walked back out he then said he "guessed" it would be ok for us to sit back down. The guests at the table next to us expressed how rude they thought he was. We chose to leave but I did call within minutes and spoke with Curtis the manager who again was very rude and said he had two brides to take care of - then hung up on me. Obviously he is unable to manage this establishment and should be demoted to the clean-up crew. read more

I have lived in Gladwin for many years. It is good for our community to have the Riverwalk here. The hotel is great. But the Riverwalk Grill continues to be mediocre. I eat there occasionally hoping it will get better. We went there for our wedding anniversary this week. Our waitress was uninspiring, we had to ask for a glass for our bottled beer, my fish was not completely done, and I got 8 French fries. The rest of the food was average, but I would really like to see it live up to the upscale place it could be. read more

UPDATE. Today I received a message from a manager wanting me to contact them to give more details on the review I posted LAST YEAR! While I appreciate the offer, the details have long since left my memory and at this point I could add nothing of any value. Not what we expected.. Service was sub par and they seemed to be short staffed. Our group of 7 was seated in the bar so we could have a table. The bartender was also our waiter and he was clearly over whelmed. One of our party ordered a Margarita and it was made with orange juice! It was like a screw driver with Tequila! When he was questioned about it, he told us that was indeed the way he made it....OJ and tequila. Portions were small for the price and quality was not there. My home made chips were all crumbs. DW ordered chicken Teriyaki and it came with no chicken. When she pointed it out, after a lengthy delay, she was served a couple ounces of microwaved cut up chicken. Fish and chip orders came with two small pieces of cod and a few fries. Ketchup was brought to the table in the small plastic cups and they were barely half full. It took numerous requests to get the condiments we needed to enjoy our meal. As I said, he was overwhelmed. I understand they may be short staffed, but if they cant properly serve the guests, maybe they should further limit the number allowed in the restaurant at a time. Third visit in recent months, we are locals, not tourists or vacationers. This was the worst of the three visits, the other two were quite enjoyable and it should be noted that both of the other two times we were alone in the dining room, there was not another occupied table. Because this time there were a couple of issues. I felt compelled to do a rating. When I called to ask if a reservation was needed, I was told (rather abruptly) that nothing was available except the dining room BEFORE I asked for a time. Hmm. Found out why when we got there, outdoor entertainment on the patio which probably kept them hopping, lots of servers running in and out. As in our previous two visits, there was no one at the hostess stand. They had reserved a table for 2, silverware and menus were in place which was nice. Server was enthused and chirpy, but not very well trained. She brought out the condiments that went with my dinner well in advance of the food and set two plastic cups down in front of me. Odd I thought. My husband ordered a beer, it was brought out with no glass, and he was not offered one. Fortunately I had asked for lemon in the water and the two small slices of lemon were provided in a rocks glass so he used that. Food was good and the quantity was good. However, they are making huge amounts of money on wine, I guess no one questions them on it. I ordered a glass of pinot grigot, it was a skimpy pour, just barely at the lower line on the glass (son was a bar manager for years, I know how those lines work)----and it was $9.00! Ridiculous price and it was room temp, not chilled. So if they don't offer a house pinot and had to crack a high priced bottle to give me a glass, I should have been told. Their beer and wine list, without prices for wine by the glass, just by the bottle, was brought to the table AFTER we had ordered drinks. Luckily, a bottle of beer is priced reasonably. My husband was offered another beer, I was not offered more wine. I would have declined no matter what I thought the price was. My husband is not one to complain, he reflects his feelings in the tip, so he left the minimum. It is not a server's fault that they are inexperienced and/or not trained, it is the management's fault. We had several bad experiences years ago, thought it was worth a try to see if things had changed, I guess not so much. Delicious food!!! It is one of the more upscale restaurants in Gladwin, and not only do they have great food, but they also have a beautiful view of the river where people can tube and relax. Additionally, it is connected to a spa and cute little shop, so who wouldn't want to go to a yummy restaurant when there is also so many fun things surrounding it?! read more
