Honestly, I was extremely resistant - I didn't want to see a therapist, I didn't want to talk through issues, and I really didn't think CBT would help at all with my sleeping problems. I finally gave in, agreeing to "time box" the sessions to 10 weeks, just to give it a shot and see if it would help. After my first session with Amy, my wife and I both noticed improvements in my ability to fall asleep, my quality of sleep, and my overall mood and energy because of my sleep, within just a couple of days. Fast forward several months later, including multiple weeks of seeing Amy more than once a week. The 10 week "time box" is obviously well past, and I've begun to allow Amy and her expertise into more of my life and to help me deal with even more issues in my life, from being a better husband, father, employee, and just a better person in general. To be completely honest, I really wanted to not like seeing a therapist, and frankly, not like Amy. But now, I can't imagine my life without seeing Amy and having her help me through things, give me my homework, and help me to learn that I can work through mental hurdles with various strategies she's taught me. Amy has always been available - she's very prompt to return phone calls and even text messages when I have needed her, has been very flexible to work around my schedule, and genuinely cares about me and my family. If you're looking for a great therapist and someone who will care about you, get to know you, and take time for you, I highly recommend Amy. Sound bowl therapy uses the calming vibrations of sound bowls to improve anxiety & tension, boost mood, work on our chakras, increase spiritual well-being and restore harmony to both the mind and body. Natalia was our sound bowl therapist and was calm, spiritual and enlightening. I can't wait to go back and do this again. Natalia also is a Reiki master. I've done Reiki before and loved that experience as well. It was interesting to hear Natalia's thoughts of what she felt was going on with each of us at the end of the session. Two of us had the energy of our loved ones with us during the session, and I was lucky enough that Natalia felt the energy of my dad. I was able to tune out everything around me and delve into the experience, but my friends said they heard people talking within the other parts of the studio, such as massages and other therapies in other rooms. One gal said she felt like getting up and going outside to tell the people to not make so much noise. Again, I was very into what Natalia was doing and focused that I heard nothing and wasn't bothered by any outside noise. Maybe it would be simply scheduling things at different times for complete silence, I don't know. It wasn't an issue for me. If you haven't taken part in a sound bowl meditation, it's a very relaxing and spiritual experience. I highly recommend Natalia for sound bowl meditation. I can't wait to go back for another sound bowl or Reiki experience.

I've been thinking a lot about this situation with my prescriber, and I keep going back and forth…read moreon what I could have done differently versus what they could have done better. On one hand, I can see that technically I could have communicated more clearly about the issues I was having with the medication. I could've saved the number that called me when I had contact that one time. Looking back, some of it seems like it could have been simple, like just saying more directly what I was experiencing. I can kind of imagine someone else maybe would've handled it differently. But at the same time, I'm realizing that I wasn't really given clear instructions on what exactly to track or how to measure symptoms. She told me a few things to watch out for, but emotions and side effects can look different for everybody--and that was never really acknowledged or broken down. There wasn't much guidance on what counted as "serious" or what to do if I wasn't sure. It felt like I was expected to just know how to handle all of it, and I didn't. Part of me feels kind of stupid because now that I'm on the other side of it, I can see some things I maybe could've done. But my logical side knows that this was all new to me, and I did the best I could with the support I had--which honestly wasn't a lot. I wasn't given tools, I wasn't offered follow-up until I pushed for it, and when I did try to express myself, I felt like I was being brushed off or talked down to. At one point she even made a mocking face when I asked a genuine question. That really made me feel small. I don't want to just sit in blame, either way. I want to understand what healthy accountability looks like for both me and a provider in a situation like this--because I do want to be someone who communicates clearly and takes care of my health. But I also want to feel safe and respected when I do. Right now, I just feel confused, a little embarrassed, and frustrated. Though I do have to say, Senami still has experience with medication, and gives basic starter medications, so it's not like she's going hay wire, this was just my experience because of my reactions to the medications.

I tried to book online, the website was faulty. I sent a detailed email, and again, no response. I finally messaged the spa through Facebook as my last attempt to open any line of communication. When someone called me back shortly after I sent the Facebook message, I was ecstatic, thinking I was about to book my reflexology appointment. As soon as I heard the person on the other end, I noticed that her tone was off. Soon after she began speaking I got the impression that she was annoyed as she was a short with me. The moment she confirmed I had the Groupon, she immediately informed me she was no longer accepting Groupon clients. I believe she said she was "at capacity and only works one day at the location, and she already told Groupon this," then, she dismissed me by directing me to contact Groupon for a refund. I was at a loss for words and disappointed that after all my efforts, I wasn't going to get the service I was looking forward to, and this woman could not care less. I didn't argue, I wasn't rude. Fifty eight seconds, that's how long the call was, not even a full minute of her time. One might speculate I was collateral damage for her annoyance with Groupon. This short interaction lacked professionalism, empathy, and kindness at the lowest level. She presented zero regard for the runaround and my time spent for trying to redeem a voucher I paid for. I was treated as though I was insignificant once she realized I was in the Groupon category of people. Here is what makes this experience especially frustrating: this is someone whose services focus on positivity, balance, and helping others. Yet the energy projected on that call was negative and unkind. Opposite of helpful and healing. The irony is hard to ignore. Every interaction should matter, especially when you are claiming to promote balance and well-being. Kindness, professionalism, and empathy should never be conditional. People rarely remember every word you say to them, but they always remember how you made them feel and how you treated them.
