It's a lot like owning a boat but I love the place. The exterior is covered with shake singles. They've been rotting and have provided a constant source of yummy food for the termites for many years. I have had several handymen and painters that promised they'd rehabilitate the shingles. Either they don't fix all the shingles or they do a bad job. I had almost given up. I found Excel Siding on "Thumbtack" I think. Finally I got someone that knows what they're doing. It wasn't cheap but l could see it was a lot of work. The inexpensive guys (handymen and painters) didn't charge much but didn't the job done either. So I'm happy with these guys and in a couple years (good grief) I'll probably have to hire them again.

They were professional and thorough from the initial visit, and even though I waited a few months to schedule the work, they honored the original quote without issue. Installation was quick and efficient. When the moulding didn't match my existing one, they replaced it with something much closer. They also followed up after the job and coordinated with an Anlin technician to fix a few minor issues. And they worked well alongside other contractors I had on-site, which made things much easier. Overall, they honored their word at every step, were easy to work with, and delivered quality results. I'd definitely recommend them.

I think 3 came up in my area of Pine Valley in San Diego County and I had all 3 come out to give me a bid along with 2 other siding contractors that could install Hardie Board. One bid was high, 3 bids were comparable and one was low. Turns out Mike and Jesus, owners of CertEx, installed our windows with another company 12 years ago but has since started their own company. I didn't choose CertEx because I worked with Mike and Jesus in the past. I chose them because they didn't blow smoke up my ass like other "Approved" and "Elite" contractors approved by James Hardie. I chose them because their price seemed fair. It wasn't high or low. I chose them because my gut said, "You can trust this contractor". Guess what? I was right. The team did an amazing job. So meticulous. I can't get past that. They did not skimp or cut corners. Their attention to detail was beyond expectation. The workers at my home were Carlos, Arturo and Pumba. They were great!!! Such great workers. If I didn't respect CertEx and their workers as I did, I'd try to poach them for my work because they were amazing. Thank You CertEx and all workers involved. They were also really flexible with my schedule, which made the whole process much easier to manage. The whole team was kind, professional, and easy to work with throughout the project. In the past, with other contractors, bringing up issues was never easy. Not everything always goes accordingly to plan. However, with Mike and Jesus, anytime I raised a concern or if a small hiccup came up, they addressed it right away, which I really appreciated. It's very clear they value their customers and take pride in their work. They also coordinated well with other contractors who were on-site working on separate projects, which helped everything move along smoothly. In the end, the results look great. Our house turned out exactly how we hoped, and we've been getting a lot of compliments from neighbors and friends. The quality of the work speaks for itself. Installed my gutters and then left me hanging on adjustments. We were promised to have adjustments…read morecovered for some period of time after install. Immediately after install, the gutters leaked. No big deal, as I imagine it happens from time to time. The issue is that they dodged my phone calls and emails repeatedly. They kept pushing back their availability for weeks at a time. Months go by and they're never available to come out and do a very small adjustment. They're usually not even available to return a call or email. We ended up having another contractor come to adjust the gutters. Paid out of pocket. Update: It seems necessary to provide a timeline of what is being referred to as "availability". I'd also argue that a "good install" is not one that has a leak in the exact same spot as the original system that caused damage to my deck. 08/02: We send initial email requesting adjustment 08/05: Stutzman response: Can send someone out after the 10th and will confirm a date later on. 08/11: No update from Stutzman. I send follow up email indicating that we're available this week as Stutzman indicated he should be available as well. 08/12: Stutzman response: We're out of town. Will follow up when back in office. 08/15: Stutzman response: Maybe available next week 08/20: We send a text message, no response 08/22: We send email asking for follow up 08/23: We call and leave a voicemail 08/26: Stutzman response: We're working on a job for two weeks. We can come out after that. I will reach out when I'm available. 08/28: We send email. No response 08/28: We leave a voicemail. No response 09/23: We leave a voicemail. No response 09/25: We send an email. No response 10/03: Stutzman response: We might be in your area next week. At no point was an actual date set in the two months that we attempted to get help. We either received no response from Stutzman, or were given the run-around. If Stutzman had simply set a date to come out, this issue could have been resolved, but no availability was ever offered. The 1-star review is indicative of a job that didn't solve our original problem and poor customer service. Both of which could have easily been handled and changed the outcome of this review.
