Service was excellent, professional, provided us with clear explanation of what and how they smogged vehicles. Left with a certificate in hand and very pleased. Our other vehicle's seat belt became stuck and we weren't able to get it loose. Took the car in and again had a very positive experience. Even bought some Girl Scout cookies . i was required to obtain a smog test ( $80.00 + ) for my Corvette. upon scheduling a test with Riviera Auto, they discovered that I met the requirements to get my registration without a test, since the county is an ownership change smog requirement county, not a two year mandated as I was previously required in Placer county. They took the time to print out a history of my previous smog tests, which I then took to DMV. It was my third time with DMV and they finally recognized their error. Not only did Riviera Auto save me the smog test fee, they also provided the concrete evidence to satisfy DMV. They get all of my business ( four vehicles ) from now on. I am new to the Lake County area and was in need of a trustworthy and reliable auto mechanic. As a user of Yelp, that's where my search began. I found Riviera Auto just a few miles from my home and decided to give them an opportunity to win over a new customer. I have a 2017 GMC Terrain that needed an oil change and tire rotation as well as a "Check Engine" light that required diagnosis. Bryan, the owner, determined through the codes that a sensor was possibly failing and did some testing to be sure. It was a defective sensor and it was replaced. During the replacement, Bryan noticed a lot of sludge and chunky oil was draining from the engine. He recommended doing an oil flush, which is a time consuming process and a bit pricey, but based upon my knowledge of how I use my vehicle, it seemed to be worth the extra cost. Well I can tell you that Bryan made the right call! My engine issues are gone completely and she's running smooth and quiet. I think Bryan has earned my trust and my business!!! read more

Best of the best! Riviera Auto is the one to go to with your Toyota. I've worked with Bryan twice now -- once with my daughter's Prius and once with mine. For my daughter's car, he repaired a blown head gasket at half the cost of other mechanics. He was super conscientious about keeping in touch with her to update her on timing and costs. He also addressed her bad brakes and a leaking fuel pump. It's a relief to know that my college student now has a reliable car. Now my 2008 Prius was a bit tricky -- my touchscreen has been giving me problems. It turned out that due to the shortage of computer chips in the US, the replacement cost was exorbitant, so I decided not to go through with the repair. However, he didn't even charge me for a morning's worth of phone calls and computer searches to get me a quote for my car. Overall, I have been super pleased to find this shop and Bryan is super helpful, knowledgeable, and honest. I don't even live in Kelseyville, but I am happy to drive the 1-1/2 hours to have Riviera Auto service my car. read more

So a few things. My personal experience is that the few times I called they are always booked out for days. The first time I went with an emergency on a Wed and they were randomly closed. The reason I'm writing this however, is because of something that recently happened to a friend of mine. He took his car there to get an inspection done on it and around the same time ran into some financial hardship (medical issue for his service dog he had to cover). He is a US army veteran on disability stemming from his active duty so receives a monthly stipend, and explained to the shop he could pay them on the 1st when he receives it and offered to show his bank account as proof. They told him not only did they start charging him 100/day (for a $125 invoice) and the amount was now around $1000, but they had also already signed it over to a lien company. I will be reaching out to my friend who is a lawyer to go over the details and if anything was unlawful will surely be taking them to court. However if everything they did was technically legal, that still goes to show how heartless these people are. Especially for a small town... I've always enjoyed how people are so personable here and you can speak to them like human beings. If he left his car there for months that is one thing, but a few weeks? I've heard of people here leaving their car for a year and not having this happen to them. And they have plenty of parking spaces at their shop so it's not like they actually need the space. They were just jumping at the opportunity to extort money from a disabled veteran. On top of it they wouldn't even consider a payment plan when my friend offered to do that. They just treated him like dirt on their shoe, someone who is still dealing with severe trauma from his service to this country so that people like them have the freedom to keep their little shops open so they can continue ripping people off. Absolutely disgusting behavior and one way or another their karma will come back to them. Sidenote, if reading this gives you as much disgust as I had writing it, know there is a solid alternative option that I have been using. After Riv auto and every shop around wasn't able to see me, the only one that could see me same day was Wicked automotive in Lakeport. Three times now they were able to see me same day even when they were busy and was only charged $50 for a full inspection and him fixing something on my vehicle. I doubt you would receive that from Riviera auto. I am not affiliated with them in any way but feel passionate about companies who are honest and fair, especially in Lake County. It's a bit further of a drive but well worth it. read more

Great service, I like the fact they send you an email about the information on your vehicle and include a photo of the issue that needs to be addressed. The first time I stopped by, Patrick, the owner of the shop was the only one there, he gridded me promptly and started the process immediately. The car was ready precisely when he promised it would be, the next time I went in, I met Serena his assistant, she also was very delightful. She started the process right away, and again my vehicle was ready at time she told me it would, and also she sent an email with pictures and also called to notify me with the service done and also the issues needed attention including photos. Pat seemed like a stand up guy. the Yelp reviews looked great. I did not have a very good outcome with my experience. My wife hit a small metal step stool on hwy 29 on the way home in her 2013 Chevy Spark. It went under the front of the car and dented the transmission pan and bent the O2 sensor. I was going to take it to the dealer in Lakeport for repairs, but decided to use Pat to keep my work here local in the Riv and because it might save me some money over dealer repair charges. His quoted price was fair enough. $400.00. I agreed and dropped off the car the night before the service date of Tuesday the 1st. I got a call that the work was completed at 2pm. everything was super. I was ready to write a shining review. Then Thursday evening my wife was pulling out of the gas station in Calistoga and the car wouldn't move. Just revving like it was in neutral. I called pat and asked him what it could be and then as I'm talking to him I see a long stain in my driveway where the trans pan has leaked fluid. He told me I needed to get it towed to his shop that night and he would look at it Friday to see what went wrong. I do not have AAA and it was crazy trying to find a tow company that would tow it 45 miles from Calistoga to the Riviera. After talking with 5 tow companies, Carl's tow in St. Helena said they would do it. I was quoted $400. I paid $300 cash after some negotiation. Pat said he saw where the pan leaked and would need to get a part. It would arrive Friday and he would fix it Saturday and I could pick it up then. I had hoped he would at least offer to help me with the towing cost as it was not leaking, just dented, when I brought it too him. and then after driving, it leaked and then failed to shift. Making the car inoperable and stuck, needing the tow. But Pat refused to pay the tow bill or even offer to pay half. He only said he was sorry and that It would be bad business to pick up my tow bill, because it wasn't his fault. I asked him, whos fault it was so I can recover the cost of the tow? he suggested I call Korea where the part was made. He said it was just one of those things. He said he was out his time for the repair to the leak and it was a faulty part. But then what he said before I left was that he re used the gasket, and there was no part included with the pan. and had he known it would leak he would have used and RTV sealant in the first place. Im sorry, but if that isn't fault, what is? I've run a business before, I know crap happens, but you take care of you customers, and write off the losses on your taxes. He could have done that, I might of even been writing a good review if that was the case. But, didn't even offer to take care of a portion. He did mention that maybe in the future, if I had need of more repair work, he might discount something. I have no desire to use his business again after this particular encounter. I am severely disappointed. One last thing.... word of mouth can be great for business and bad for business. Keep that in mind folks when you looking at keeping customers. As for me, everyone I encounter in the future, I will tell this story to. They will hear about my plight and maybe not use Riviera Auto Repair because of it. You know it really is hard to find good a good auto repair place with integrity. I am thinking that the dealer would have been a better route to take next time. Listen to your head, and pay the extra money, because I didn't and my bill went from $400.00 to $700.00 because of the Tow. I was up north for a potluck with friends and my mom's cantankerous old 1994 Intrepid started idling very rough. This had been an intermittent problem but was full time now. Pat from Riviera was able to figure out in a few minutes it was the EGR valve/sensor. He knew a ton about these cars and their idiosyncrasies, more than the guys in SF that I've been going to. I was talking with him and turns out he's also an airplane engine mechanic which explains his attention to detail since some customers lives depend on their engines getting fixed right. Absolute best repair experience I've ever had. I'd drive up here for all my repairs if it weren't so far from the city. This guy is the real deal and really knows his stuff. So I decided to make my appointment at this shop since I don't live far from it, once I made my appointment I specifically mentioned that I will need my car that same day no later than 5:30pm she told me that I will have it sooner since they close at 5pm and to drop the vehicle off between 8-9am in my mind that was perfect! After I dropped of my vehicle at 8:25am I walked home and let the technician do his thing, come around 3:30pm I decided to give them a call and what do you know no answer I called again around 4pm no answer then I also text them because they do accept text message what do you know still no answer. It's 4:10pm I call again no answer I also left a voicemail, so then I decide to walk to the shop and see what is going on I get there around 4:30pm and no one is there the shop hours are from 8:30am-5pm I decide to wait till 5pm and nothing, keep in mind that I was told I would get my car the same day come to find out I didn't get no answers my girlfriend had to pay for a ride from work and I still needed to walk back home. The next morning I still didn't get a phone call or anything so me and my girlfriend are running late for work we walk to the shop and start to ask what's going on I told the front desk I called several times text, and left a voicemail and you guys couldn't even call me to give me any update. From desk tells me she doesn't work Monday's... which she failed to mention. I also told her that I was there trying to pick up my car the day before because I needed it and waited till 5pm when they close, she tells me that the shop owner does pretty much whatever he wants which in my mind is ridiculous especially when you have sign and website with specific hours from 8:30am-5pm. I was pretty upset I couldn't believe my experience in this shop .I've never been through something like this ever in life. Last they emailed me the invoice and I noticed that supposedly there was no transmission dip stick I mentioned to my girlfriend that you have be kidding me this tech either didn't really do the inspection or he doesn't care , I'm not even sure if he actually performed a full inspection , because I know for fact that it does have one I even called back and brought the subject up to the lady who works the front desk and she tried to cover his mistake so I told her and went as far as taking pictures of the transmission dip stick so they both can see. In conclusion I will never return to this shop I do not recommend it, they have poor and I mean poor communication skills specially with all this new technology. Big warning to whoever plans to take there car to this shop. read more

I towed the car, dropped it off after hours and left a note with the keys. Pat called me first thing in the morning and put me at ease immediately. He called again during the day with a progress report and then in the afternoon when the car was ready for me. The immediate problem was solved but he advised me to follow up with more work when I got home. Pat at Riviera Auto is a 5 star mechanic with a heart of gold. We were two Australian ladies on holiday passing through town, when our car overheated and the radiator cracked. We were on vacation and were staying at Clear Lake State Park when trouble arose. Our van began making noises when we drove slowly.... noticed as soon as we were pulling into the campgrounds.
