Walked in to order a House pizza to go and was immediately told by the big, rude & unkept hairy man behind the counter that he was the only one there and had 18 tickets before mine. He then told me that a House pizza would require him to chop up a lot of ingredients that he didn't have time to do. Are you kidding me!?! Pretty good! It's almost as good as the original Riza pizza owner. The actual restaurant is kinda gross feeling going in. I think he could fix it up and make a killing but you can tell he puts his energy into his food and not the looks of the place. It's a place I would grab and go for the food. He has these amazing things called chubbies they are opened up bread filled with meats and cheese and have lots of flavor. It's not overpriced pizza here definitely within reason. TL;DR unfair business practices: overcharges, recycles food boxes, very unsanitary (health department nightmare), will say things no one that is socially calibrated would ever say to a customer. Act 1: Walk in to see a large amount of dough slung over his chest and sweaty back as he greets me and throws down the dough on the counter. (I'm thinking... it will cook off in the oven) He grabs a dirty pen on the counter and fondles the receipt book and starts tapping his hand on the dirty counter. I tell him 2 chubbies he darts around the partition and soon he reappears with an already cooked roll in his hand and asks what toppings did I want again? (it's the same unwashed hands he grabbed the stuff on the counter with) I'm thinking, I'm sure the hot oven will cook off the bacteria, how bad could this be. I respond and he tells me "7mins!" He brings my order to the counter in a to-go box, he then asks if I'm eating in, I tell him yes. He grabs the paper that's lining the box and pulls my food out and places it on the bare counter, he starts to shut the box and tells me that he hates wasting boxes, it's only .20 cents, but he refuses to waste. Brings a paper plate and puts my food on the plate (I'm thinking to myself, maybe the paper isn't permeable and has kept the food safe from the bacteria, fungus and virus' on the counter. I sit down and think, if this makes me sick I can always address it with medicine, I'll be fine (At this point I'm realizing "the oven will cook it off" thinking is not going to address all the health concerns I've just witnessed). I sit down and eat the coldish food (cheese just barely melted or maybe the counter cooled it quickly, who knows or cares at this point). I go back to ask for sauce and see a small sauce container on the counter in the food prep area, the small container looked like it had a cracked lid with smudges and food particles all over the outside (like someone threw it away and it was fished out of the garbage) Mario asked if I wanted sauce as he placed his hand on it I immediately said "no thank you" then he asked, do you want ranch or something and I said "sure" (I'm thinking he has 2 pour that out of the bottle from the fridge so I'll be fine). I'm eating he brings the ranch, before I finish I tell him to give me the special instead: 3 chubbies and a med 2 topping pizza, the guy flips and I tell him, just count the 2 chubbies I already have and make me a pizza and 1 more chubby. I'm done eating the 2 chubs and go to pay, he points to the sign and says 16.50 or 16.99, I say how bout $16.50, he asks how am I going to pay, I said credit or cash is fine, how much for cash, he states $16.50, I follow up with "card?" he says regular price with tax, so I said okay I'll pay cash and it's $16.50, he responds with "okay" and takes my $20, as he's giving me change ($3.50) he snatches $2 dollars out of my hand and says $18.50 with tax. I told him I paid cash to get the lower price, he said that only helps him save credit card fees and says I still have to pay tax (I thought $16.50 was cash price with tax included) At this point he gets crazy with me and says: "WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS MESSING WITH ME!?" I was thinking this guy is unstable and this explanation has got to be good as his reaction is a total surprise to me, let's see what he says. So I asked him to clarify what he means by that statement, I'm just completely surprised and amused at this point. He goes on to remind me when I brought my mother a few months back and he overcharged her for the food and I called on the phone asking how much did he charge for chubbies (he charged her $3.25+ tax) and he told me that he swares he changed the prices and he's pretty sure he's updated the new increased pricing on the laminated menu he's got on the counter as well. Snap back to the present; I pick up the laminated menu and point to the price of the chubbies and it states: $2.50 then he quips back, You accused me of the price being $2.25 (in reality I told him that he charged my mom $3.25, but he's really playing this off) I actually forgot about that time a few months back when he overcharged my mother and I called in to verify, but now remember and could verify the real price right to his face. At this point I knew that I was being scammed and it's only a few cents here and there and he's only trying to save money on boxes, but I've had enough of this madness, so I told him "I'm messing with you huh? okay..." and I turned away to leave for the last time. He lost a customer for many reasons: Health hazards, unsanitary preparation, recycling boxes and possibly food, but this last autistic outburst where he snatched $2 dollars out of my hand was where I say goodbye. Doing things like this is no way to run a business. Reading other people's reviews I could see a pattern/trend if you will. I started coming to this place about 6 months ago and was hooked after the first bite. I've lived in upland forever and was surprised to find this hidden gem. Once or twice a month we eat Vince's spaghetti now when it's pizza night it's always Rizza. The quality of the food is great but what really made me loyal is.....it was MLK day and I had called to see if it was open on the holiday no answer, so went to dinner elsewhere after ordering at the restaurant my phone rings and it's the owner calling me back to let me know he was taking out the trash when he missed my call. There's always people there when I go and for him to take the time to call me back says a lot. He told me he's been there for 16 yrs and I hope he's there 16 more. My bf wanted to take me to get pizza and had this place once before where he said the chubbies are really good so we decided to stop by. As soon as we walk in I notice this place isn't very well kept and we didn't see anyone in there. We read the menu for maybe 30 seconds when this old greasy man walks up to the window and says "are you ready to order" and i look over and ask my bf really quick if he was ready since we really didn't get a chance to look at the menu and the man cut us off 3 times and repeated "are you ready, are you ready, are you ready" and he said "if you're not ready i really need to finish up this order" in a very rude and disrespectful voice. me and my bf were taken back honestly but being the nice person my bf is he was understanding and said okay we aren't ready yet... so he can go do whatever he had to do... seems like he can't handle more than one thing going on at a time. He then tried to be friendly to just my bf because he probably realized how much of an ass he was to a paying customer. He came back around to the window to take our order, where i honesty wish we would of walked out as soon as he was rude to us. My boyfriend ordered a medium pizza and 3 chubbies and then I wanted to add on a salad to the order... and when i said "can i add a medium antipasto salad" he straight up laughed at me...I don't know if he thought it was funny for a chubby girl to order a salad as if it's ironic or something? I have no clue. I feel as if he is not a very nice person and possibly sexist as he was nice to my bf but laughed at my face when i ordered 1 thing. Overall i would not come back here EVER again. I'm sorry but this pizza is Terrible and the owner is definitely not professional. The pizza sauce tastes like lunchables sauce and the cheese on the pizza was not melted. He tried playing it off by saying "I like cheese everywhere", but I dont, please serve me a pizza that is not tampered. Also, he had a cigarette in his hand the entire time cashing out and giving me the pizza which seems unsanitary.
