    4-Chicken Shawarma

This was our first time at Rizzo, and I don't believe we will be back. I will start with the things I do appreciate about this place. The hummus was good, the dipping sauces were good and the salad was also good. All were small portions, which is OK but the flavor was on point. It wasn't magnificent, but it was good. The chicken and the meat that we got were very dry like if it had been sitting out under a lamp for many hours, I was worried I was going to get food poisoning (but hey we didn't). The establishment was incredibly smoky when we walked in very hazy from the cooking (Which I could get over). But- the most upsetting part of my experience overall, was that they served you a side of Hispanic tortillas with your meal instead of pita. You can see the tortilla package out on the counter and he pulls out two flour tortillas. Pita bread is not very expensive and it's actually really cheap to make and easy. Even buying pre made pita, we wouldn't have known if it was homemade or not. But the fact that they stoop so low to give tortillas bothered me so bad I'm not going to give this place another chance. I thought maybe they had run out of pita and had given us tortillas, but another review also mentioned the tortillas.

Just amaaaaaaaaazing food and service. Hands down the best hummus and meat platter in Treasure Valley. The platter starts off with a salad, followed by hummus, tzatziki, and straw fries. Then we had the platter pictured. Such an amazing experience and service. Absolutely would come back again and again.

Great food! This is not fast food. This is a family owned and operated restaurant. We ordered soooo much food. Portions were super generous. Flavor was wonderful. This is a must try!

Best meal I've eaten in Boise since arriving 3 weeks ago for bus driving assignment. Full of flavor and fresh ingredients. I'm sad I leave back to Washington in two days that I can't eat here frequently. New restaurant, Turkish influence, hummus was perfect with garlic. If you're reading this review, you must visit for a memorable meal!!

Left over foods and very expensive, it looks too much in the picture but when they bring it to you looks completely different.

Oh Kabob House... where have you been all my life??…read more Seriously, how have you been open for 8 years and I'm just now finding you? My husband and I found this place completely by accident. We were craving gyros and drove over to what used to be Gyro Shack on Emerald. I had almost suggested going to a different location because I didn't want to deal with the traffic, but we ended up on Emerald anyway. Lo and behold... Gyro Shack was gone. So there we are, hungry, staring at the building. "Well... should we try Kabob House?" Eh, what the heck. OMG. BEST. HAPPY. ACCIDENT. We went in around 1:00 on a Saturday, and I'll be honest... it was empty, which made me a little nervous. But everyone was so welcoming, and it smelled AMAZING in there, so we figured we'd give it a shot. Best decision. We started with the lentil soup, and I am not exaggerating when I say I would come back just for the soup. It's that good. Warm, comforting, healthy, full of flavor... just soul food. Do not skip it. We also ordered the salad, which was super fresh with an amazing dressing on the side, and shared the lamb kabobs. The portion was huge, the lamb was delicious, and can we talk about the rice for a second? I don't know what they put in it, but I could have eaten a bowl of just the rice. They also brought us a complimentary homemade cucumber yogurt dish (I can't remember what it's called), and it was so good. This was honestly one of the best meals I've had in a long time. When we got home, I looked them up on Yelp because I couldn't believe a place this good had been sitting there for eight years without me knowing about it. Sure enough, the reviews were fantastic. So if you happen to stop by and it looks quiet like it did when we were there, don't let that scare you off. Clearly lots of people have already figured out what we just discovered. In fact, we loved it so much that we brought friends back the very next day. Sunday lunch was definitely busier than Saturday, which honestly made me happy because this place deserves to be busy. The owner, Shams, actually remembered us from the day before and even gave my husband a hug. That kind of hospitality is so genuine and just made us love the place even more. This time we ordered the lentil soup (again... because obviously), butter chicken with rice, and a giant naan with hummus for the table. There was so much food we barely had room for it on the table. Kabob House is one of those places you almost don't want to tell people about because it feels like you've discovered a secret... but it's way too good not to share. Amazing food, generous portions, warm hospitality, and a really nice atmosphere. We'll absolutely be back. (And yes... I'll be ordering the lentil soup again.)

After being the only two sitting in the restaurant for 10 minutes, someone brought us menus. Another 10 later, they came back for our order. It was a tad frustrating because an item I wanted to order had a well-worn sticker blocking it out. Placed our food and drink order. Several minutes later, someone different came from the back and said one of the two items was also not available. So another item was chosen. Drinks were not delivered (tea and a water) until the food came 20 minutes later. And the water was a tiny 8-ounce bottle of water. 1.5 hours and we were the only diners. That says something. Food - Of what we could order, the chicken tikka was good but not amazing. 4 stars. The lamb kabob was amazingly bland and tough. So disappointing as I typically love lamb. 2 stars. The hummus was thin and tasted too sour with no flavor dimension to it. Was it old? Better hummus has a slight nutty flavor to it and this needed more garlic. 3 stars. Rice actually had decent flavor. 4 stars. We had both the pistachio and walnut baklava. As a baklava connoisseur, the walnut was far better flavor and texture but both seemed dry and old. Bread was okay. When I look at the number or reviews from those in CA or OR with less than 5 reviews on their account (all giving 5 stars) - it seems clear that people want free baklava or hot tea, as they advertise at the table when you sit down. But they need to read your review first before getting the token item. I have better ethics and higher standards than that. Maybe the restaurant section is on the slide. For a $20 entree, not worth it. There is better in Boise.

A friend of mine practically lives here- every other day, like clockwork- and the last time I joined, he ordered a full mezze-style spread that felt straight out of the Mediterranean coast: impossibly creamy hummus, cool and garlicky tzatziki, perfectly seasoned kebabs, fresh veggies, warm pita... dish after dish, each one better than the last. This is a casual, no-frills kind of place- so don't come expecting anything overly polished or upscale. The missing star from others? It's purely about the ambiance. But the food? That's a full five.
