He was pretty knowledgeable and answered a lot of our questions. The bf and I browsed for what seemed to be hours. A lot of the stuff we liked were big or dangerous (i.e. knives & swords) and couldn't bring with us on the airport. Most of the items were super expensive. The bf ended up getting a small jewelry box for his mom. We had to buy something, the poor guy stayed opened late for us. Bryan's little chihuahua followed me around the store....cute.

Later on, his wife asked if I wanted some water to drink and gave me a bottle of water right there and then! Das why I love my Hilo town. :) So full of aloha these people. The store is pretty expansive and takes up two large sections with a smaller sub-room in the back. He specialized in a lot of European and Hawaiian antiques and also performs restoration on some of the furniture pieces that come to him "less than desirable." A lot of the store is furniture antiques - tables, desk, chairs, display cases, etc. - but settled amongst these are smaller objects. Koa boxes, small ceramic figurines, koa bowls, dishes, etc. Prices will range depending on what you're looking for --- furniture started in the high hundreds on up. Keep in mind, that this isn't the Sally Store (Salvation Army store) or Goodwill and you're paying for items that rare/can't be found a whole anymore. Thus, each piece is priced accordingly. If you're interested in antique furniture, koa items, or local vintage Hawaiiana, I'd definitely recommend this place. There's free parking right in front of the store.

The friendly, passionate guy who owns this place has been making jewelry for a long time and it shows. Even though the bakeries on the way and Akaka falls nearby kinda suck, this place saved the day. Banyan Gallery offers art, jewelry, cards, and small handmade souvenirs from artists in and around Hilo. It's a welcoming little building with colorful items in the windows and a table outside. Prices are consistent with unique handmade items - it's not cheap here. PARKS and PARADISE. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ First, I have to appreciate the logistics involved for this O'ahu small business to be here for three days. To pack and ship their inventory; along with racks, shelves, signage and stands. Manufacturing enough items to be sold, tagged and bagged ready to sell. And then there's the costs associated, along with lodging for four nights. Just to be here for the Merrie Monarch Festival. For exposure, hoping for great sales in-return. To reach-out to locals and visitors alike. An introduction to their company went so well on day one, I honestly returned the day after to purchase more items after visiting five craft fairs. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Many vendors at various craft fairs during Merrie Monarch week showcased the same identical products, but appeared different based on the owner's sourcing and creativity. Honestly, PARKS and PARADISE stood out over the rest in my eyes. Due to their unique description and visual representation of each core item. Stylish handmade aesthetics, the designs and prints lured me into this vendor's corner. The quality displayed spoke heavily to me. With a keen eye for fashion, I began to appreciate what was created and crafted. I purchased items for friends, for myself. I began to shop for Christmas, looking beyond the present day. After Merrie Monarch week, I wished I had purchased additional items from PARKS and PARADISE. Their website is live for purchases, shipping available. I was honored to converse with such passionate individuals. Their entrepreneurial spirit shined bright, as they extended a personal connection to the items that were of interest to me. Hailing from Waipahu, her business became so demanding, manufacturing was strategically outsourced with her initial designs in-mind. Requiring strict quality control ensuring the external partner met her standards, it showed in everything that was on-display. I honestly saw it on every item. Their love for everything Disney, I connected immediately as Jonathan shared cruise recommendations and a personal story of his proposal to Arlene in-front of the Disneyland castle in Winter 2024. I seriously saw the "magic" and felt it, as their products and personalities indirectly evoked my emotions through storytelling. Sharing "their" personal story, producing more than functional items. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I'm hoping this new Yelp page will help promote and broaden their audience of shoppers, for future visits and transactions.
