Great place to go shopping for nice deals often at half the price off regular retail price. Many times though I have that "impulse " buying on my wants lol. My go too especially for socks and underwear...... only problem for me is lack of space for all that "stuff" hehehe. I know people who would not step in this store, But why? Today they only had 3 cashiers and the line went up the main aisle and then turned right towards men's and went into the men's shoe aisle which is the last aisle. I waited an hour in line and got only half way through. Then the customer service at the fitting room would only hold my items until 10pm. Which I think they should have made an exemption to allow for holds to be picked up the day after. Management should look into opening a 5 items or less register. Today was absolutely ridiculous. read more

The staff is friendly and helpful and the store is well organized so it's pretty easy to find what you're looking for. The only drawback is selection or lack of. On many of my visits I found it to be very understocked with a limited amount of items to choose from. read more

This is actually a nice Ross. Compared to the other ross in the island which had nothing, this store had a lot of merchandise and much of it was on sale which is a win win. The store was clean and well organized and the staff was helpful. read more

A Ross is a Ross is a Ross, so as long as you have your bar properly set for what to expect, you won't be disappointed. During our vacation we decided to buy our daughter an art set because there's really not much for her to do when we're staying in rainy Volcano other than watch Youtube videos. I suggested Ross because the art supplies are always so cheap and there's a solid variety to choose from. We headed back to the art section of the store, and she picked out an acrylic painting kit that came with paints, brushes and canvases, all for the price of $11.99. There was no wait when we checked out and it kept her busy for two afternoons straight. Now her paintings decorate our family's little Volcano cottage and we'll love them for years to come. We came here to return a luggage from the Kona Ross we bought serveral days earlier. The place was dirty and even the area where the luggages were had trash all over the floor. Didn't bother looking around 'cuz even the front shelves were tossed around and clothes hanging nearby were skewed everywhere, we thought the place was completely janky. read more

Ross Dress for Less - Department Stores Near Me - Hilo, Hawaii

I never went in here for months, because it says "dress for less" and ... I just don't wear dresses... Well, guess what, they sell a lot of home goods too. An artist sent me here for cheap frames... they do have a great picture frame assortment, better than the adjoining big box stores. I also saw some really nice glassware sets, better than what I've seen at Macy's, Walmart, or Target. Very Very good prices!! So it's not just "dress for less" it's also "home for less." read more

I LOVE ROSS!! You know what's great about the Hawaii Ross'? They have an over-abundance of winter items. Items that fly off the shelf in the mainland such as; BCBG sweatsuits, jackets, sweaters, etc, are just sitting on the shelves. Not just one color, but every color, every size. I was shocked. But, makes sense, as not many people are buying sweatsuits/winter clothes in Hawaii. I stocked up on a lot of great winter clothes on this trip. But what I loved the most about this Ross was the friendly staff. Roaming around the store, I was asked a few times if I needed help. It has been a long time since I've gone somewhere (besides Neiman or Best Buy) where the staff asked me if I was finding everything okay. Come check this Ross out!! read more

Is it me or everyone just shops here? Haha. You get to see lots of people from Hilo if you just hang out for about 20 mins. As far as for selection in brands, very limited. Tourists come here so they buy the brands that no one else in Hilo would buy and wear. Pricing is just like any other Ross stores. But lesser tax 4.16666% compared to my homestate of Nevada at 8%! read more

I always find oddities that I never knew I needed, or that I never thought I would find in hawaii. Goat skin leather garden gloves, a swim suit with long sleeves and a high neck for sun protection, High end sunglasses, and a hanger for my downhill skis, to name a few items. This Ross is hands down one of the best I've EVER been to. The Ross Stores in CA are JUNK. The Ross stores on Oahu are pretty good, but the Ross Store in Hilo is a GEM! I first started shopping here in 2005 when I was living in Keaau but I keep going back whenever I'm in town. Now granted if you show up when a cruise ship is in town then definitely things will get sparse but the brands and things they carry in here are the BEST. Of course like every store, especially BARGAIN stores, it's gonna have it's good days and bad days but luckily for me, the Ross angels always smile upon me and I find the coolest stuff. For those who don't know, here's some tips about this store: - You need to take some time in here to go through everything. That's when you find the killer stuff. I've gotten Via Spiga shoes for $8, Armani pants for $5, guess jeans for $1, Calvin Klein sweater/shrug for $6 and lots of other brand names you see in Nordstroms sold here. -You have to go with no particular items in mind. If you came here with a specific item in mind that you want, you'll probably be disappointed, but if you just come and let the spirit guide you, you're gonna find some great things. Just recently, I got my sister a $250 Speedo Parka (the kind swimmers wear at meets and/or you wear at a football game on the mainland) for $15. She's been wanting this too and how random is that I found it here?!? -I found that the non-island essentials are the cheapest; long sleeve Ralph Lauren polo shirts, leather jackets, sweaters, suits, etc. I've noticed that it's the super high end brand names in winter/cold weather styles is what's plentiful and cheapest here. Slippers, jean shorts, tanks and bathing suits are never gonna be on sale here and are usually the tourists/locals first choice items so you might find yourself better off at a Macy's 1 day sale for price and selection. At any rate, Ross ain't for everybody and it's definitely not a Macy's or Neiman Marcus, but it's clean and friendly enough. It's a bargain hunters playground! read more

I've got it at Ross! I can't even explain how many times this place has saved my life in the past. Lost luggage, last minute gifts and even auto repairs can be accredited towards Ross saving my ass. This place has such an assortment of cheap but quality goods. If i need something quick or I don't have the cash to spare this is usually my first stop. The Atmosphere. I get more booty bump'n action in Ross then i ever did in Karmas night club. This place is a calaustraphobe's absolute nightmare. Hilo people are so darn cheap this place is always full up. There's also an overwhelming amount of staff here. I wish some of them would go work at Home Depot cause i can never get service there. At Ross, I can't take 7 steps without a sales rep turning a corner and asking if I am finding everything fine. The selection. This is the meat of the 2 star rating. I would not even bother with this place if the prices and selection were any less than good. I always find myself walking in to get a certain piece of clothing and leaving with all sorts of things I didn't plan on buying. This is brilliant in my opinion, I am about as cheap as it gets when it comes to shopping. I rarely buy clothing let alone housewares or shoes. Regardless, I usually buy a fine assortment of things on every visit. I think it has something to do with the sheer treasure hunt factor a store like Ross brings. There are bins, randomly populated racks, and limited quantities. Another fun little amusement is that you often find these customer-made stashes of merchandise through out the store. These are gems in themselves as they often contain items no longer seen in the general stock and who knows how long they have been burried there! I must admit I've also hidden certain Items with the intent to come back and buy later. The prices. The potatoes, if you will, of the 2 star rating. An example. I purchased a set of headphones from Ross for $7.99. An average price so i thought. Then I walked into Office max directly next door and saw the exact same pair priced at $45.99. Everything in the store follows suit to this price rift. needless to say, this place has got the deals. The service. This is where i have a bone to pick with Ross. I absolutely love this place but I hate a good portion of the workers there. I could swear that Ross strives to hire the people with the worst attitudes. Upon entering, the "Loss Prevention" officer eyes me up like he wishes i would steal something so he can "go to the ground" with me. Its almost tempting to steal something just to see what their policies are like and also so i could wipe that smug look off that guys face. If you try something on don't expect a lot of help. The girls in the back are more interested in talking about the guys they been with over the weekend (no joke). Don't get me started on the lines. They are long and there are no express lines. Sometimes i just need to buy fresh socks but don't want to wait in line for 20 min. How hard is it to have one line that is 5 items or less? The cashiers are usually abhorrently rude. I went in today and the cashier would not even look at me as I asked her a question, didn't answer (so I thought), then when I ask again she says "I SAID YES!" then I said "sorry didn't hear you the first time" and she didn't respond again aside from snidely saying thank you and have a good day. I get agitated just being in line and praying that i don't get certain cashiers. I even let people go in front of me when I see certain lines open up. read more

Although this Ross location is smaller than the ones on Oahu that I have grown accustomed to, it's stocked with a variety of clothing, bags, shoes, household items, etc. to fulfill your shopping needs. I never leave Ross without buying something! I've noticed that there's usually a long line to pay during my last few Christmas visits to the Big Island. Maybe it's just the holiday rush? read more

Ross has made some nice improvements in the last year. The staff has gotten more professional - more courteous, less WalMart-like - and more efficient. However, the quality of the merchandise appears to have dropped, and the amount of designer or name brand items that are available is in very limited quantity. This is usually the first place I shop before moving on to Macy's, as I can sometimes get really lucky, but I won't settle for poor quality no matter the price. I find myself still going to Ross, but also find myself spending less there because I often can't find much. read more

The Ross in Hilo has a pretty large store space. The prices are great but it seems like they lack sometimes in the dishes. The service is really bad. People will not smile at you under any circumstance. read more

Sometimes Ross can be hit and miss especially for men's clothes. They do have great deals though. My favorite part is that they are open super late. All the way until 11:30pm some days. So if you're bored one night, great place to kill sometime. read more

Although I'm an avid shopper at Ross and check them out weekly to see what's available. Most of the cashiers are always talking amongst each other while ringing up your items as well as looking and showing others what you are buying which I don't really care about but I doubt everyone needs to know if I'm buying curtain rods or what not. My advice would be the shop in the morning when there's less people and also don't forget to rip your own receipt cause they sure as hell won't do it. read more

Shelves are practically empty. So sad. Such a great store where's the merchandise? Items are spread out ok on shelves to look like it's filled. How annoying. Who takes care of ordering merchandise? I go to Ross' every week so I know the store. They used to have some of the worse sales girls and I even got into an argument with one who had an emotional IQ of "1". Another time, a clerk yelled at me for "stealing her wagon". I thought wagons were for customers! I think it's better now. That being said, I think this Hilo Ross is the best in the state when it comes to their inventory and the neatness of the store. I always find at least several items I love. The store is very neat and clean compared to other Ross stores I've visited including on the mainland. And since they're revamped the way they handle the cash register lines, the long waits are over and it is soooo must better!!!! I used to see people leave in digust over having to wait so long but this new system has put an end to that. Only thing they need now are automatic doors, get rid of those silly long poles on the wagons, and maybe a couple of benches outside for the poor husbands waiting for their shopping wives. Oh, and forget the idea of hanging your stuff on the pole at the dressing room so it can be counted. What's up with that? read more
