Have you ever had your car looked at and been told "sounds fine" ? This is what happen to us , so living in the bliss of no car repair needed..the noise got worse, not trusting the place that cared for us before..I called America Tires in Modesto,Ca. On Staniford Ave. Trust them already and thought maybe they have a recommendations (since they deal with Tires mainly) and they did the recommendations was R.M Automotive on Motor City CT. In Modesto they even gave me a name and That was Randy . I called and it was Randy that answered the phone. They saw us same day and fixed the worrisome NOISE that was getting louder right away ( wheel bearing) The price was fair and I will certainly use them for all my car needs (I hope you try them) Oil changes ect. Overall a very good experience. I took my mother's car in for some long overdue maintenance, which there was a lot of lol. I have multiple vehicles and have had more than my fair share of experiences with mechanics. They did quite a bit of work on the car at a very reasonable price, and the car sounds and runs great now. That being said, they did replace a couple of things that I had requested they don't do because the revised work order was not passed on to the tech doing the work. They replace the air filter (which I had just replaced). They also replaced the windshield wipers, which I asked they not do because I could have certainly done it myself; I overlooked the windshield wipers until after I got home and thoroughly reviewed the receipt. They offered to credit me back for the air filter, which I appreciated, but 1). because they replaced the air filter, I felt it fair I pay for it, and 2). They told me that the k&n air filter I had used as a replacement has been known to cause issues with the mass airflow sensor, which I confirmed after some research, so I am glad they switched it out. I appreciate them being proactive and letting me know something I did could cause issues in the future. Also, the cost to replace both the air filter and windshield wipers was very reasonable. After doing some research and calculations, I really would have only saved maybe $10 doing it myself, although they used a windshield wiper brand that I would not have picked (not a bad brand, just a personal preference). So the convenience of having them do it was worth it. I feel they are very knowledgable, honest, and reasonably priced; even with the errors of the additional services, I will be going back for future service on my other cars because I do not believe the additional parts/services were added intentionally. Although I hope in the future, only the parts and services that I request/authorize are performed. If this error happens again, I will reevaluate. read more

I am seriously undermining the integrity of this "business" My dad took his truck in because it wouldn't start. He does not speak very good english and I am starting to wonder if he was taken advantage of just because of that.The person who worked on it, replaced the starter and it would start but not run properly. It would start and idle very roughly, and they suggested replacing the spark plugs which they did. That didn't help. That alone was $900. AND THE TRUCK WAS STILL NOT RUNNING PROPERLY. He then suggested that we replace the throttle body since the "throttle body service" did not help. That quote was another $600. My dad could not afford it so he took it back to home. I called in and talked to the person who worked on it and he said all he needs is a throttle body and that will fix it. I got the throttle body replaced by a real professional. The car still acted the same way. So we got to troubleshooting the problem a little bit further. We ran a diagnostics scan and some data showed, but most did not which was a little weird. We removed the PCM/ECM (computer) and and checked the wiring....all looked good. It turns out the FUSE for the PCM/ECM WAS IN THE WRONG PLACE. We put that fuse back to it's CORRECT position, and the truck turned on fine with no problems. And as soon as I remove that fuse it would act up again. I think this was a serious scam, and no one should ever conduct business like this. Again, seriously undermining the integrity of this business because I do not know if the fuse was misplaced on purpose or not. Either way, he was not able to fix it without any more money. This should have been corrected by him. Lots of wasted time trying to figure out what the actual problem was. I replaced the throttle body which should have fixed it (he told me personally on the phone), and it turns out to be a fuse after a couple hours of troubleshooting. Thanks... read more

Great customer service and honest family owned business. Randy has been servicing my 2002 Chevrolet Malibu and husband's 2000 Volkswagen Jetta for the past 5 years. Service and work are always top notch and done within the same day. If same day service is not available due to the shop being busy or parts needing to be ordered they are honest in letting you know how long it will take to get your car back. They always call before work is done to let you know what needs to be done and how much it will cost. If discounted or refurbished parts are available and it's what you want, they will let you make the decision and steer you in the right direction. I have never been pushed to have work done I didn't want and all their work is guaranteed. I have taken my car in for repair and felt the wrong issue was addressed and was able to take it back in the same day to have them review the problem. There was no charge for the second visit and they did tighten up a few things to add to the car's performance. Just purchased a new vehicle from a local Modesto lot and took it directly to RM to have them check it out. They noted it seemed like a good vehicle but that it did not appear to have had the scheduled maintenance done. No real problems at this time, but there were a few maintenance issues that should be taken care of before purchasing. Randy put all suggestions in writing to have me take to the lot and discuss a better deal. Check the phone book for a coupon, sometimes there is one in there for $50 off for new customers. read more

I've been taking my vehicles to RM Automotive for 3 years now. I have a 2008 Scion TC, 2003 Lancer, and a 1999 Ford Explorer. Each vehicle has had some major work done by RM Automotive: motor for the Scion, motor for the Lancer, and a transmission for the Explorer. Now, I gotta say that I have an older brother in the automotive industry, in fact, my brother is a smog technician in Stockton. If I could've I would've had my brother work on my vehicles but towing my cars to Stockton would have been astronomical, as I live in Modesto. I was very pleased with my first experience with RM Automotive, and I just kept taking my vehicles back whenever they needed work. Of course, I spoke to my brother about the issues I was having with my cars, and what pricing might be like... and if anything, I was getting a great deal with RM Automotive than everywhere else. Plus, these guys are FAST! My Scion and Lancer came back in 2 days, my Explorer came back the next day. You're probably wondering why my brother just doesn't maintain my vehicles for me. Well, my brother is a busy man and I doubt he wants to work on my vehicles for free on his free time. Plus, I have too much pride to ask for any favors. So, I'm just glad the people at RM Automotive are honest, and they really took care of my cars and my wallet. Maintenance on vehicles is expensive when you don't take care of your cars. RM Automotive is there to fix those problems, and that's exactly what they are PROBLEMS. I should know, I had 2 motors and a transmission installed. A few days ago, I had another positive experience with RM Automotive as they worked on the Explorer and the Scion. The Scion needed the transmission fluid changed, and the Explorer need brakes. I was going to get a tune-up on the Explorer but one of my friends offered to do it for me. As great as these guys are, I really don't want to see them anytime soon. This business has actually made me decide to begin actually posting reviews because I would like to share when I receive a noteworthy experience. A part on my car had broken and needed to have it repaired immediately because I'm preoccupied with endeavors. A relative recommended a shop to which my dismay only managed to waste both my time and money despite intial inquiries. His inability to repair it and suggestion of taking it to a dealership was troubling. Being that my car is German, I immediately called all the local shops (which are actually competent to work on European cars) for estimates of parts/labor. I knew the cost of repair would be lofty averaging about $700. Scouring shops I came across RM Automotive, but noticed they don't seem to have much internet presence when compared to others, so I was a little apprehensive. I called asking if they work on Audi's to which they do, then continued with my barrage of questions of parts/labor/warranty. Though many shops had good courtesy there was always some level of tone to procure business, but that wasn't the case here. Not only was RM accommodating in pricing the part identical to what I could find it for, but actually was fine if I decided to bring my own. The price was also cheapest, yet the quality of work is high which I observed when I requested to see my car while being worked on. I had my car towed in Wednesday and it was done Thursday afternoon which I greatly appreciated. When it came time to paying they gave me a $50 discount which is offered to new customers. The total cost was about $570 which is substantially less than the average quote of $700 I predominantly received from other shops. They warranty their work for one year as well. Just an update. My car has check engine light on after Randy said my car was good and would pass smog.. nope my car has the check engine light and other lights it didn't have before.. i think they just cleard my light. I drove my car to stockton and back to modesto and the light is back on. They chared me almost $400..They don't care about the customers if they did they would try their best to fix the problems they caused. Seriously. I would not waist my time writing this. They seriously gave me my car with at least 5 things now I gotta go figure out where to fix I will not go back with these people. I told Randy the problem and he showed no interest in fixing my car he didn't CARE. They got my money and brushed me of so careless. SO I'm not even gonna go there and fight about this. They are a waist of time and I'll just figure out this problem on my own. They did fix the misfire but fucked up a whole lot of other crap. PLEAE DONT COME TO THIS PLACE read more

I took my truck in on the recommendation of a friend. I cannot express how happy I am at the excellent service that RM Automotive provided. The owner of the business is Randy and he has been a friend for over 20 yrs....I would think he would be honest with me but NOOOOOOOOO. I took my car Chevy Impala in to the shop in Feb 2013 and thought the repair was good but this Aug I needed a smog ck for my registration and guess what????? They took my catalyic converter off and replaced it with a converter for a Malibu or S10 and had to modify it to fit (tell me who cks under their car when the repair wasn't there?) you know I will ck when I have another repair any where. Well $250 later my computer on the car won't accept the converter...so not only they took my converter they also messed up my computer by having a wrong one put in the car. Not sure how much that is going to cost me. I called Randy and told him my problem and he said they didn't do it. If not then one of his employees is working at night in the shop doing hack jobs. I won't reccomend his shop to anyone!!!!! He won't even admit something was done wrong. read more
