I can't say enough good things about Main Street Garage. Last Friday, I was driving my '93 Jeep Wrangler from the Bay Area to Arnold with my daughter and our dog when things took a turn. Traffic rerouted us through back roads, and when we stopped at a cheese shop in the middle of dairy country, I noticed my front left tire was *smoking*. My phone was at 7% battery--perfect timing, right? I searched for the nearest auto shop, called Main Street Garage (about 5 miles away), and they immediately told me to come in. From the moment I arrived, the experience was incredible. Katie at the front desk jumped into action, got me checked in right away, and started calling around for parts. A kind customer even gave me an old cigarette lighter charger so my phone wouldn't die. The mechanic took my Jeep (and my dog!) back to the lift while we waited in an office that--no joke--had three beautiful Great Danes hanging out. The whole place just felt welcoming and human. They quickly diagnosed the issue (brakes and more), got to work, and had everything moving fast--even though it was already 4:30pm and they close at 5. After fixing the brakes, Mike (the owner) personally test drove the Jeep. When he got back, he told me he *wasn't comfortable* with me driving it up the hill yet and recommended replacing the brake hoses too. And here's where they went above and beyond: Mike coordinated with my husband and his wife Carly, and they actually drove me to Copperopolis so I could meet up with him and get home safely. Who does that?! They didn't just fix a car--they made sure we were taken care of. They stayed late, got everything handled by 6pm, and treated us with such kindness and urgency the entire time. Hats off to Main Street Garage!! I had my 2013 120,000 mile Hyundai Sonata towed to them to check out and got a call the next day that they had some bad news and maybe some good news. The bad news engine was frozen and would need to be replaced. The maybe good news? They reached out to Hyundai and found out that it might be under an extended warranty and that while they could fix it, they advised me to take it there. Well I am getting a new engine on Hyundai. I had no idea of an extended warranty and had they not reached out I probably would have junked the car. Maybe other shops would have done the same thing but it seems like they went over and above what they needed to do. Thank you. read more

Do not come here!! I was quoted $700 and was told my car would only take 3 hours. They ended up taking two weeks and charged me over $1,000 and when I got my car back it still wasn't fixed in fact it was worse. I decided to take it to a different shop where they informed me that they had broken a part that they replaced and said they fixed. I reached out to the shop to see if I could speak to Mike the shop owner and was told he would call me in 10 minutes and never got a call. I waited another three days and they said he'd call me that day and still never did. And again waited another 3 days and he never did and had his receptionist tell me they wouldn't be willing to refund the money for the part they broke. I have since filled claims with BAR and am waiting to get this handled read more

I wish I could give 0 stars. I would not recommend this shop to anyone. It's been a nightmare of an experience for almost 6 months. The entire staff seems to be severely unqualified and inexperienced. Most of their workers are in highschool or maybe 18 and that's all the owner seems to hire there. The owner has terrible communication with their clients that have already paid for services. And has 0 sense of urgency to work on cars that have already been in their shop for months.. If you just need a smog or an oil change that's about the only thing they can do proficiently. Anything beyond that the entire crew is very unfamiliar and unqualified to deal with. My car broke down right before Christmas! Had to get it towed to Main Street garage! I was pretty bummed I had to get a complete engine replacement, or a new car. The team made everything easy for me! They were very informative and got quotes to me is a great time frame, we're understanding when I needed a bit of time to make a decision and followed up with everything! Brought my car in last Tuesday for a safety check and I thought to get my brakes and alignment done. They were only able to do the safety check which I understood. When I picked it up Tuesday I made an appointment for yesterday Monday to bring it back for an alignment and brakes. When I came in to drop my car off I was informed the alignment guy doesn't work Mondays... so then why schedule an alignment for a Monday? I went ahead and was going to have them still do just my brakes but then I received a call after over an hour that the rotors they quoted me hadn't came in and it would be almost double for the rotors. I quickly went and picked my car up and will be going anywhere else. They need to work on their communication within the office and scheduling. Trying to change the price to nearly double feels scammy and sad coming from a local shop. read more

On a holiday weekend Main Street Garage SAVED ME. Driving back from Pinecrest Lake my vehicle lost it's brakes along HWY 120. I called them at 2:45 PM to see if they could help and amazingly they said yes. They quickly inspected and diagnosed the failure, and then made special arrangements to get the parts and the manpower to get me back on the road by 6PM. They went above and beyond. Unfortunately horrible experience. Really wanted to find someone reliable and timely in town but will never go there again. Called Monday and was told to have my car towed to be looked at Tuesday. Tuesday evening I call and was told they were backed up and would look at Wednesday morning. Wednesday afternoon I call again at 3:30 and the tech was about to test drive my car and I'd have a quote soon. Thursday at noon I call and the car still hasn't been looked at. I get a quote at 5pm on THURSDAY. I sign the $1300 quote and add on two $6 bolts and a $30 cabin air filter since it will be no additional labor (I was told). I pick up my car Friday and they charge me over $1500! $25 for bolts, $25 for nuts and ADDITIONAL LABOR. Absolute rip off, lack of communication and dishonest. Good reviews must be friends and family or something because that couldn't have been farther from my experience. read more

SCAM SCAM SCAM!!!!! Main Street Garage is the kind of shop you hear nightmare experiences about! Where the shop takes your car for weeks on end, keeps stringing you along, does absolutely NOTHING and charges you your first born for their lack there of work before you can pick it up! Do Not, I repeat DO NOT!! Take your car to this shop! It was a shop like this many moons ago that made me decide to go to school to become a mechanic! Unfortunately I can not do the warranty work on my own car. That being said, on to my experience with the MainStreet Scam Artists . So apparently your review can't be too long so long story short they lied to me for weeks didn't do any work not even the diagnostic so I finally told them I was coming to get my car the next day after work. Next day came and while I was at work they finally call and tell me my catalytic converter is bad it's going to be $1300 for them to fix it because my warranty doesn't cover it or I can now pick it up after paying $150 for the diagnostic. I had told them when I dropped it off the pre cat and more than likely catalytic conver are toast. Precat material was sucked into the combustion chamber and it has low compression and is burning oil. They finally after almost three weeks "say" they did a diagnostic and my cat is bad so I ask well what about the compression and oil consumption? Oh well that wasn't covered in the diagnostic so you want me to pay you for literally not checking anything? read more

Main Street Garage does it all, replaced my entire clutch, starter, reinforced my clutch pedal with innovation, reinforced the steel since I have a heavy foot. Got to love a small town. It's hard to find an honest mechanic these days. Mike was able to squeeze me in for a problem that was going to be a bunch of others. The office is clean and seemed pet friendly as well as community oriented. Pets are my life and I love our small town of Escalon. He was very honest with telling me the work my 2005 Nissan Titan needs and even voiced to me that he may not recommended me doing the work there because of the age of my vehicle and cost. You cannot find that honesty in a mechanic these Days. Turns out my catalytic converter is out and my high oil pressure guage. I cannot speak highly enough about this shop, and moreover, the people working there. It was a Friday beginning the Labor Day weekend, having left the Bay Area in a BMW 535 for a weekend retreat near Bear Valley when late in the afternoon, to avoid a potential accident with another car, I had an inadvertent collision driving over a curb/island. We needed a mechanic and after doing a Yelp search, contacted Main Street Garage. I can understand all the five start ratings. Jeff said, "if it's drivable, bring it in now". They were busy when we arrived but had the car on the rack almost immediately. After reviewing the diagnosis and recommendation with us, we had to forego the trip but could not be more grateful for the friendly and honest service we received.
