very frustrated with RNJ services. They helped me with my exhaust manifold on our truck, but when I went to pick it up they wouldn't give me a jump to start my truck. The owner walked off and didn't help. Worse than that when they installed the exhaust manifold they forgot to main bolts which ultimately caught my truck on fire and melted my radiator reservoir and wiring on my way back to AZ. Heads up if you're having any mechanic work done in Rapid City South Dakota do not go to RNJ auto mechanic shop. He is located off Dyess Ave! What an absolute joke of a place. I wonder how many people they've taken advantage of. My son took his truck to him to get it running but when he goes to pick the truck up it will not start. It won't even cough. Rick, the owner says it's not his problem, yet he had no problem taking cash for something he didn't fix. His reply was that it ran when he called my son (the day before) to pick it up. My son had to tow the truck off his lot after he paid this man to fix it. They treat customers awful and I would not recommend taking anything to him. Absolute joke! I will be contacting the BBB regarding this. read more

We broke down in our camper van while driving through the area. We asked the tow truck driver for a recommendation of a repair shop. He recommended Rick at RNJ Auto Repair. Rick found the problem, asked our approval for buying the parts and kept us informed of his progress in repairing our van. We were on our way within a day and a half and his repair is solid for the over 1200 mile trip back home. Thanks Rick for a great job. read more

It is so hard to get someone to work on motorhomes. For some reason I have always been lucky. I stopped at an RV dealer in Rapid City. They couldn't help but sent me to RNJ. Rick was honest with me right up front. He told me with an older MH it was tough, but "bring out Sunday and I'll see you at 6:00 Monday. We parked by his shop. At 6:00 am he was there. He's off the beaten path but easy to find. Thank Rick. read more

While traveling to the Mt. Rushmore area with our 5th wheel trailer we experienced an unfortunate breakdown. A local stopped to help, as well as the wrecker drivers dispatched to tow our truck and trailer. Not being familiar with the area, I asked for referrals from both for reliable repairs. Independently, each recommended RNJ. In fact, the local was on the phone with Rick of RNJ in an attempt to diagnose the problem. Ultimately the vehicle was towed to RNJ's shop, and our trailer was towed to the campground. Rick had the vehicle repaired by the next day, and he even picked us up from our RV Park and transported us to his shop (approx 50 mi.). We believe him to be thoroughly knowledgeable, and his service rates were more than reasonable; not to mention his sincere concern over elderly travelers passing through his beautiful state. We consider ourselves to be extremely fortunate to have met Rick. My only regret is that we live approximately 1400 miles away. Otherwise Rick would be my auto mechanic for all of our vehicle needs. read more

Going here was one of the biggest mistakes I've ever been a part of. Rick, the owner, charged us for nearly 7 hours of labor when he didn't spend even half that time working on our car. Forty-Five minutes after We left we encountered the same problem that had brought me into his shop in the first place. Before going back and accusing him of anything I went around town gathering several opinions. Apparently the solution to my troubles was simple, I was told. Before passing judgement, I went back to see if he was interested in making things right. I had spent $800 dollars there for a half day of work and a $100 part, and got nowhere. All i wanted was a refund for the 1.5 hours he spent "diagnosing," (since his oversight had been so dramatic- I wasn't even asking for a refund for the part or the other hours that he had inflated on my bill) or help resolving the issues that should have been obvious to a real mechanic, and should have taken no more than an hour and a half to fix. As calmly as I tried to handle the situation, he flew off the handle. He accused everyone I talked to of not knowing anything, and claimed the research I had done to verify them was bs because "the internet is full of fake shit." So... in a nutshell, If you don't want to get ripped off for incompetent work and/or screamed at for pointing out any questionable billing or mistakes... stay as far away from here as you can. read more
