Tried at the recommendation of a friend and was impressed! The location is a new area that just got rebuilt last year. The inside is clean with lots of natural light. I ordered from the lunch menu and got 3 rolls (2 spicy tuna. 1 spicy salmon). I also got a miso soup on the side (I had not realized the lunch special comes with a small miso soup and house salad). I was greeted when I entered and they quickly got my order. The sushi was fresh and not overdone - simple is my jam. I'll be back for dinner soon!

I ordered takeout from here. The yellowtail and salmon avocado roll. The yellowtail is some of the best I've ever had. It was really delicious. The avocado to salmon ratio was a little off for me. It's a cute spot. I haven't sat down to eat there yet.

Even without a reservation, I was seated immediately, which was a great first impression. The service was excellent. Our server mentioned it was her first day, but you would never have guessed as she was attentive, warm, and handled everything beautifully. The food truly stood out. The sushi was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The hibachi experience was just as enjoyable. The chef was entertaining, skilled, and added a fun, engaging touch to the meal. The restaurant itself is clean, inviting, and has a great atmosphere that makes you want to stay and enjoy your time. I'll definitely be returning and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great sushi or hibachi experience.

We ordered a party boat that was about $81 which is more than reasonable. Finished almost all of it. I also had my 2 piece roe selection since that's my personal favorite. Service was nice. We had a waiter in training so it took just a bit longer but he did a good job. Ordered a Yueling and drank my draft in a cold glass. The fried oysters and seaweed salad were just ok but I liked their tempura. It's a very casual restaurant with a huge bar, some tables and habachi.

We thought…read moreit was strictly a takeout place but were happily surprised to see a row of booths along the side wall and counter seating in the front area. We were greeted by their friendly staff and ordered a bunch of food, because we wanted it all! You order at the counter and they bring your food to the table. We started with chicken egg rolls. One order included 2 egg rolls. I loved that they were not greasy and that they were lightly fried. Inside was ground chicken. Very tasty comfort food for a cold night. Next we had sushi rolls. We thoroughly enjoyed the spicy tuna and shrimp tempura rolls. They were perfect in every way Finally, we had the steak and shrimp hibachi platters, mine with teriyaki sauce and noodles and my husband's with rice. Both came with cabbage, broccoli, and carrots. The portions are good-sized. We could only eat half and took the rest home for dinner the next night. Scrumptious! I highly recommend Hibachi Express. Delicious, high-quality food at reasonable prices. I am putting this restaurant in my favorites!

The DC area Mormon Temple had an open house to get a free tour in the first time in their 50 years, went with that friend, and he suggested Hibachi Express for dinner. I was game, and it was delicious. This isn't gourmet, but it's a solid choice. Staff was cordial. When I did the Yelp search on Hibachi Express, I saw multiple locations in the area. Kensington location of the website is specific to this location. I looked up the Laurel location. Although it's a separate website, the logo is the same smiley face with flame. So, I may want to go back as that new Laurel westside development is only about 6 miles from my home.

Overall, this is decent sushi made much more appealing by its extensive happy hour…read more We visited during happy hour, which featured a strong selection of seafood, cocktails, sake, and wine. The discounts were quite noticeable. The seared salmon normally costs $10 but drops to $4 during happy hour. Service was not the fastest but our server was very kind and accommodating. *Lychee Cosmo: sweet and fragrant. Although it was advertised as lychee forward, it leaned more toward a cherry blossom or floral profile and tasted somewhat artificial. *Kusshi Margarita: refreshing with a solid pour. *Seared Fatty Salmon: a nicely thick cut of salmon that was evenly seared. I did wish the mayo topping had more flavor as it felt more textural than impactful in taste. *Nigiri and Sashimi Combo: came with three pieces each of sashimi and nigiri, featuring tuna, salmon, or yellowtail. I was impressed by the thickness of the cuts. The tuna was tender and clean, the yellowtail was rich and fatty, and while the salmon was leaner, it was still fresh and not fishy. *Toro Crispy Rice: the tuna was very rich and fatty. The rice was well prepared and not overly oily, but the dish could have used something acidic or herbal, like shiso or pickled radish, to balance the richness. *Salmon Avocado Roll: the avocado complemented the lean salmon well. The roll was generously filled and the rice did not overpower the ingredients. *Spicy Tuna Roll: the tuna was quite mild, so the roll lacked strong flavor, though the fish itself was tender. Structurally, the roll was well made and evenly filled. *Salmon Sushi Bowl: came with six slices of salmon over plain rice and pickled vegetables. I wish the rice had been seasoned with vinegar. The pickles added a nice crunch and contrast. *Scallop Nigiri: not part of the happy hour menu. The scallop itself was large and soft, with more natural saltiness than sweetness. It would have benefited from a more acidic rice base to balance it out. The sushi itself is not particularly memorable, but it is solid across the board. I would not pay full price, as there is room for improvement in flavor, but the happy hour value brings this closer to a four star experience rather than a three and a half.

The interesting and varied menu could use a native English speaker's revision in a few places, though... the "seared steak" I ordered turned out to be raw (very much a Carpaccio situation), and the misunderstanding was completely due to a misleading description on the menu. I sent it back, and the manager graciously agreed that the menu blurb was deceptive (completely unintentionally, of course). Lots of fun, refreshing summer cocktails using Asian flavor profiles on this menu... I look forward to trying them sometime when I'm not driving. The mocktail menu looks splendid as well... so will return next time for Lamb Rendang and a tall sparkler. One note about the seating... unless you are a professional gymnast, avoid the tables lining walls near the bar... they are mounted on high cement platforms, and are extremely awkward to climb. As my server said, "Butt first" is the way to go... or just sit at a regular table with regular chairs. It appears the interior designer was having a little joke (at our expense). Quirks aside, this is a great place for Asian street food from a wide variety of cultures, at a reasonable price, in an attractive setting. It's worth visiting for the neon alone.
