Sushi didn't feel fresh. Everything was just okay. I wish there was more variety of rolls and nigiri. But it seems like a pretty popular place so a lot of people seem to like it.

My first time going to Kusshi and it was such a great experience! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space was filled with patrons so I knew this would be a good restaurant to try.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered appetizers, main courses, sushi and drinks! Everything we had was AMAZING! I really enjoyed the items our server recommended too. She made sure we had everything we needed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have inside and outside seating which is perfect for nice day[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]- I would definitely be back! I want to try their HH next.

Let me start with with I am extremely excited to have tried this new place. Compliment to the itamae for the amazing sushi. The lava is probably one of the best sushi combination I've ever eaten and it's a favorite for sure; followed by the smoke salmon. The service was excellent, everything came in an orderly manner and our server was extremely nice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a very nice and quiet of a place. Great for big parties as well as small ones. Enjoyed it very much. The music isn't loud so makes it easier as well to have conversations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Overall, this is decent sushi made much more appealing by its extensive happy hour. We visited during happy hour, which featured a strong selection of seafood, cocktails, sake, and wine. The discounts were quite noticeable. The seared salmon normally costs $10 but drops to $4 during happy hour. Service was not the fastest but our server was very kind and accommodating. *Lychee Cosmo: sweet and fragrant. Although it was advertised as lychee forward, it leaned more toward a cherry blossom or floral profile and tasted somewhat artificial. *Kusshi Margarita: refreshing with a solid pour. *Seared Fatty Salmon: a nicely thick cut of salmon that was evenly seared. I did wish the mayo topping had more flavor as it felt more textural than impactful in taste. *Nigiri and Sashimi Combo: came with three pieces each of sashimi and nigiri, featuring tuna, salmon, or yellowtail. I was impressed by the thickness of the cuts. The tuna was tender and clean, the yellowtail was rich and fatty, and while the salmon was leaner, it was still fresh and not fishy. *Toro Crispy Rice: the tuna was very rich and fatty. The rice was well prepared and not overly oily, but the dish could have used something acidic or herbal, like shiso or pickled radish, to balance the richness. *Salmon Avocado Roll: the avocado complemented the lean salmon well. The roll was generously filled and the rice did not overpower the ingredients. *Spicy Tuna Roll: the tuna was quite mild, so the roll lacked strong flavor, though the fish itself was tender. Structurally, the roll was well made and evenly filled. *Salmon Sushi Bowl: came with six slices of salmon over plain rice and pickled vegetables. I wish the rice had been seasoned with vinegar. The pickles added a nice crunch and contrast. *Scallop Nigiri: not part of the happy hour menu. The scallop itself was large and soft, with more natural saltiness than sweetness. It would have benefited from a more acidic rice base to balance it out. The sushi itself is not particularly memorable, but it is solid across the board. I would not pay full price, as there is room for improvement in flavor, but the happy hour value brings this closer to a four star experience rather than a three and a half.

Drinks were great, [[HIGHLIGHT]]atmosphere at the bar on a Saturday evening (10pm) was lively.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Music was good at the bar yet the music in main dining room (back end of restaurant) was respectfully quiet.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Pineapple sushi was superb!!!!! Food arrived in reasonable time. Staff was great.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Always likes the atmosphere at Kusshi, open , modern and mixed with Fusion Japanese vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Great location, in Pike & Rose, with parking garage next to it. Service was ok. Friendly service at beginning but our waiter got a little overwhelmed after more customers started coming, hence was not very attentive, rather he was attending to the larger crowd. Additionally, he didn't put in some of our orders in during happy hour, and not able to doit any more after 6pm.‍ Food: sashimi- slices were real thick, not sure that was good. Wagyu fried rice $38-not worth it, rice was dry and lack of flavor, and some of the wagyu meat were hard to chew. Kusshi noodle-delicious. Chicken Curry katsu curry- chicken over fried, curry sauce was good. Hamachi kama- wonderful, large portion, definitely recommend. Happy hour-great deal.

If you're looking for a quick bite to eat, some sushi, definitely come here you can stay as long as you want, or it can be quickly brought to you because the service was also very fast, especially sitting at the bar. They had a hibiscus and rose cocktail that I loved drank two of them so fast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]they have table seating as well as bar seating, which makes it comfortable for like dinners date night, as well as just watching a game.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The sweet shrimp was amazing and my friend loves the fatty tuna Chutoro. And the role I got was also amazing. We ended up getting the rock shrimp and edamame, which were really nice. I will be back for sure.

I hadn't visited Kusshi in a while and my friend wanted sushi so it was an easy choice. I've been here several times, but my review is old so a new one is warranted. We ordered several apps and sushi to share. The waiter was attentive and helpful. The sushi was super fresh and the highest quality as it has been each visit. Here's my breakdown: Shrimp and veggie tempura: very crunchy and the perfect temperature. Cooked perfectly. Tuna ball: always a favorite. Fresh and very very delicious Shishito peppers: charred and seasoning was spot on. Volcano roll: as expected, nothing that blew me away, but great nonetheless still wonderful Phoenix roll: this one was great too. Probably one of my favorites Ruby roll: I can't give a review on this as I didn't try it, but my friend really enjoyed it Creamy California roll: it was just that. Creamy. Great experience overall. I continue to recommend it here.

Overall: [[HIGHLIGHT]]good food, lackluster service, cute casual ambiance, multi-stall gendered restrooms[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was surprised how easy it was to get a seat right away dinner time on a Saturday. We had udon, 2 special rolls, and miso soup. Everything was delicious, but nothing stood out to set them apart from the other sushi spots we frequent. I loved the balance of noodles, meats, and veggies in the noodles. I wish our servers would have checked in on us more often and i didn't like how the drink menu was only accessible online.

summary: a bit of an underwhelming experience, but overall ok. The restaurant is located in the Pike & Rose retail area and offers Japanese style cuisine at a somewhat premium price (also offers Omakase, which is somewhat unique, so that's cool too!). The service was pretty disappointing. It wasn't too busy of a time, but we were pretty infrequently checked on and kind of left idling for pretty long stretches of time. The food was okay. The noodle dish was mid $20, so I definitely expected more. The meat was tough and chewy. A bit disappointing considering it was their namesake dish. The sushi was decent. If I was rating the sushi alone without the other food and service, I'd probably say it was a 4/5. However, I'm not sure that given my experience, how I would feel about splurging for their Omakase.

Kusshi is an awesome sushi spot that is open late on most nights. They have Alaina Japanese foods such as sushi, sushi boats, noodle dishes, and sake. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This spot is laidback with a calm atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The miso soup is delicious and I love their California rolls. I always receive great service and refreshing cocktails here. Parking is plentiful in one of their many garages within pike & rose. I like the location as it's tucked back a little bit from the main streets. I also love that there's a small market adjacent to the restaurant that sells Asian snacks and drinks. Super fun to browse and try new foods! I will definitely be back!

10/10. We aren't from the area, but every year we come back to this restaurant because it's that good. We have so much fun here, not to mention the food is also good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place just has a cool vibe to it[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], and we love our girl Kaylee, Manager and Bartender. She was a blast and made the experience for our group. We'll be back next year for year 3

3/5 [[HIGHLIGHT]]Kusshi in Bethesda has a great vibe and truly excellent service the staff was friendly and attentive the entire time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The tuna belly was outstanding, easily one of the best bites of the night. However, the seared salmon was way too sweet for my taste. I wish they'd lean into a more savory, balanced flavor like Umi Sushi does. With a few tweaks to their seasoning, this place could easily be a five-star spot. I suggested some garlic chili oil

I was offered a $10 discount, but the system wouldn't allow it to be stacked with another discount that someone else in my party originally had. I asked for the existing discount to be removed so that it could be used on another visit, but the server misunderstood me and ran that one instead of the discount we were offered that day for the mishap. By the time I figured out that there was a mistake, we didn't have time to correct it due to personal schedules. Sushi night in my neck of the woods? Why not?!…read more I'm a huge fan of "hole in the wall" gems, and I think Akagi qualifies for that distinction. What do I mean? Well... It's a place that isn't too big, didn't have a crazy pop, but the food hits just right, every time. It's certainly a gem. Yesterday (Friday night), two friends (one celebrating a bday) and I wanted to get some sushi and keep it pushing. We went to Akagi right up the road and got ordering right away. The service? The staff was so kind and treated us like regulars. Jokes, refills, and the owner personally made us some matcha lattes, that really enhanced our night. The server had a great sense of humor and gave solid recommendations (I got the American dream, imma get it again, too!). Everything was highkey delicious. The ambiance is cool, but I wish more people came through. We didn't have a lot of people close by to sing with us, so I had to show the staff - and half of Rockville - my singing prowess (or lack their of) on the happy bday music. Not the Stevie, if you're wondering. For the bday dessert, we split the tempura cheesecake. It was serious work. Seriously. Not too sweet, but something about the crust being fried with the cheesecake filling just took it over the top. Maaan it was good. The sushi? The sushi?! Fairly priced, big portions, well styled, rocked my socks off with eel sauce. We shared as a table and really just had a ball. Between the service, humor, bday singing, delicious food, and extra attention to detail, this may be a "hole in the wall" fave for years to come. I suggest checking them out and diving head first into the sushi/dessert. Good times/good vibes. Oh and, Happy Bday, Kev!
