Really love this place! My family is moving to Asia soon, but I wish we could keep coming here regularly to support them! Because, (especially for a strip mall sushi place), they are wonderful. Our first time here the kids were melting down and the waitress was so patient and kind. 2nd time I came alone, right when they opened, and they were mopping with a strong smelling cleaner which was bothering my throat...They propped open the front door for me to ensure my comfort! That meant a lot to me because I really wanted sashimi for breakfast & I couldn't have stayed otherwise! But let's talk about the food. Do yourself a favor and get the Sashimi Appetizer...the presentation is so special with little purple (fake) flowers, and the nice cuts of fish come on tiny beds of shredded daikon with shizo leaves...both of which I adore. The lunch special is a great deal, even though the rolls aren't large. Their ginger doesn't have pink dye in it which I always appreciate. Their homemade salad dressing it quite literally the best I've ever had, loaded with a mild ginger. We all-around love this place and I will miss being able to walk over! I had a great visit at this local business! I met up a friend for girl's night and we split the edamame, agedashi tofu, Vegetable Roll and Larry's Roll. We are outside which was quiet and great for beautiful food photos. The server was very attentive and patient while we asked to make sure our meals would be vegan. She let us know that their tempura batter does not have egg. Next time I will try their sweet potato roll! The appetizers were great. We got a generous portion of edamame. It was lightly salted and filling. The agedashi tofu is always one of my favorite appetizers. I liked that theirs had lots of crispy onion bits and seaweed on top. The dipping sauce was delicious and I would order this again! I was so impressed that this business had two vegetable rolls on their menu! The main vegetable roll was not the typical avocado, cucumber, and carrot roll. Instead it actually had interesting vegetables like pickled radish which made this meal feel elevated instead of just a step up from the grocery store. The Larry's Roll was the star of the meal for me. I love that it had both seaweed salad and mango in it! It was hearty which is rare to find for vegan sushi. These two rolls are more than enough reason to have this place bookmarked as a place to patron as a vegan. I do wish that the plate did not have that decoration on the side with the Mayo based sauce. Luckily nothing contaminated my rolls, and I will ask for that to be left off the plate when I come back for another visit. Our meal with two appetizers and two rolls was $28. Not a bad girl's night price at all! We thought about ordering the fried banana for dessert without whipped cream but we will just have to wait to try that for next time! read more

When something is SO GOOD you just go online to write a review for them. These people at Moko renewed management and what a great quality and good price. First I went for one poke bowl, tested it, was happy then I went for more. Now we go almost daily for one or two, they have great prices (poke bowl 12,5 usd!) and it's all made fresh different things to choose from I take different kinds of fresh fish every day, Really can not recommend Moko Sushi well enough. It is possible they were just having a bad night as the place has been okay for takeout in the past, but we didn't enjoy the sushi. The nigiri seemed neither fresh nor prepared well. The spicy tuna roll was more crunchy than actual fish. We also didn't enjoy dining in the restaurant as we found ourselves surrounded by delivery drivers throughout the dining area waiting for their orders. During our meal, a frustrated delivery driver was arguing with staff, which made for an unpleasant dining atmosphere. read more

Disappointed with this Chirashi bowl. When I asked server, they said 10 pieces and different kind of fish, varieties. Turn out on 4 kinds of fish with 3 tuna / 3 salmon / 2 white fish/ 2 tilapia. TL;DR the dinner/regular prices are too high and the size of their special rolls are WAY too small! Their sushi itself is fresh and tastes very good, and you get the best deal by doing their weekday/Saturday lunch specials and using the coupons they occasionally mail out. I will still return for that! My parents and I have been frequenting Moko Sushi since it opened because of its convenient location and good sushi roll lunch specials. However, I've cut back a star. While their sushi rolls taste pretty good, the size of the special rolls are always SO SMALL for their price of ~$15. Today, we ordered the 2 and 3 roll lunch special and 1 special roll (American dream). I have no problem with the normal sushi roll size, but the special roll literally looked like it was only 4 pieces rather than 8 when I saw it. Turned out the roll that looked a single roll was really 2 small rolls stuck together. Their special roll pieces are not any bigger than their normal sushi rolls -- in fact, they might be SMALLER! In my opinion, the size of their special roll is literally 1/2 the size of other popular sushi stops in MoCo, like Yuraku and Love Sushi, which are priced the same or even less. read more

Hubby and I came here a few years ago for the first time for sushi. We liked the sushi a lot, but while we were there a bunch of sizzling dinners came from the kitchen. It caught our interest and we've been meaning to come back again for more sushi but also to try some of their cooked [sizzling ] items. :-) We decided to have lunch here last Friday and quickly remembered why we wanted to come back! Hubby got the three sushi lunch special and I had the chicken teriyaki bento box, which came with a California roll, white rice, salad, and shumai. The sweetheart roll was not balanced. The hot chili sauce totally blew my palate out and that's all I could taste. The miso soup came very hot but was pretty bland and darker in color then I am use to. I tried to give my dog some of the fish that was on top of the sweetheart roll and he even pushed it around a bit. Oh god why....seriously WHY.... It's Christmas so first of all THANK YOU for being open. I understand being with family is more important but working on this day, very nice of you all.....with that said..... Not sure if the chef is mad or if someone unqualified is making the food tonight given the holiday or what but we are trying to enjoy this sushi but we can't. The photo is as much we could eat and the rest has been thrown away. What a waste right? Yea it hurts. All of this was $100 and we just can't. The problems. The rice is ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. Every bite is gag. Sushi rice shouldn't be mushy and should be more vinegary . This is just mushy rice, steam mushy nasty rice. The roles can't be eaten. The pink lady roll right in the middle are huge and it's like gag every bite. The seaweed salad is the best and the portion is huge.....until you realize it's actually stacked cucumbers at the bottom (fail). The house salad dressing even is blah. Like I'm BEYOND disappointed and so sad what a waste of money. Again I know I sound like a jerk it's Christmas so again thank you for working but wow I'm so disappointed. Wasted money tonight and can't eat this. Gas station sushi or even buffet quality sushi beats this place for sure without a blink of an eye. Really enjoyed my recent lunch at Moko Sushi, glad we made the trip and we will be back. (For background: Years ago I discovered chicken katsu at a little Philippine food joint in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and I have had chicken katsu on my mind ever since. A little searching showed Moko Sushi served this delicacy, so off the wife and I went for lunch.) I ordered the chicken katsu Bento box for lunch, which also contained a small salad, beautiful steamed rice, three really yummy shumai, and four pieces of avocado/krab roll. I've got to comment on the rice... if only I could attain that level of perfection in home-cooked rice: Each kernel was translucent, good adherence to one another with no starchy character. I also chose a sushi roll of smoked eel with avocado. At first I thought the overall taste was milder than I expected, but then I carefully contemplated the next pieces of the roll and realized I had never before experienced such smooth, subtle, and satisfying an eel roll. This was an eye opener. Again, the minutes-before preparation again presented with that perfect rice texture. My only less-than-expected item was the Chicken Katsu, the item which drove my visit. I was expecting a larger, thicker, hotter, juicier piece of chicken that I found on this visit. Perhaps my years of anticipation for that chicken grew larger-than-life, perhaps it was a difference in the cooking and presentation methods between the Japanese and Philippine culture, but I have learned what I like best at Moko Sushi. On my next visit it will be more shumai and more smoked eel sushi. read more

I think it's safe to say that I may have found a new go-to sushi spot in the area... Felt very welcomed as soon as we stepped into the restaurant. It looks tiny from the outside but it has a good enough space on the inside (bonus: they have outdoor seating during nicer days). The servers were really nice and attentive all throughout the meal. Ordered the shumai for an appetizer. You get 6 tiny ones that were delicious. Comes in some kind of pre-made soy sauce mix that paired well with it. No idea what they put in there (it's not just plain soy sauce) but whatever it is... A+! For main entree, ordered: shrimp tempura roll, salmon roll, paradise roll, and spider roll. Shrimp and salmon are always my go to... I always try to get spider roll... and one other speciality roll. NONE OF THEM DISAPPOINTED! They all tasted great and seemed fresh. Even better... our server (Mary) didn't forget our spicy mayo... which servers always forget to bring even when I request for it several times. For dessert: mango and sticky rice. A great way to end a delicious meal with awesome service. It's safe to say... I will be going back to this place often. Moko sushi is simple, but very good. They have great lunch specials, which is a plus, but their normal dinner prices aren't spectacular. My friend and I got (for takeout) an order of the shrimp gyoza, a shrimp tempura roll, and a spicy salmon with crunch roll. The quality of the fish was good and - here's the kicker - the sushi rice was AMAZING! I feel like I've never had a sushi roll with such good rice that I wished I'd gotten a side order of just rice, too! However, the flavor was lacking a little and the spicy salmon with crunch roll wasn't that spicy or crunchy? Service was also okay. My server wasn't super welcoming and our small order kind of took a while. We also weren't given any chopsticks, but luckily we had some extra at home! I LOVE this spot in the Rock Creek Town Center! Growing up here, I remember the town center as much quieter with few dining options. This is a great addition: everything from the food to the staff is wonderful. The location has plenty of parking, which is a huge perk for this area. The ambiance is cozy, plus there's a small outdoor patio for outdoor seating, weather permitting. We ate inside as it was a bit chilly. We started with Gyoza, which were shrimp filled and very tasty! The appetizer came with six, which seemed quite generous. My parents each got bento boxes while my husband and I split two rolls. We ordered the Crazy Salmon and Passion rolls. The crazy salmon roll was probably my favorite of the two, but both were excellent! I tried some of my parents' bento boxes: the tempura fried veggies were good as well as the teriyaki chicken! There are so many options here beyond sushi, so there really is something for everyone. There was also a decent selection of alcoholic beverages. The staff were all wonderful: they didn't rush us through our meal at all and all the food came out in a timely manner. Will definitely be back on our next trip through Rockville! read more

You can tell that these sushi chefs are very particular about presentation. I wish I took a picture, but I didn't so please trust my description :) ... the rolls were laid out and then spicy tuna was piled on top. They were really generous about the amount of the cooked tuna, it was literally a mountain of tuna piled on top! ...or volcanic-like per say haha but not like a sloppy mess and It was so delicious! The sauce made it even better, though it didn't need any sauce. 12/10. The shumai was so good! The flavors were amazing and it was very light. 10/10. We also got the Moko Maki roll, it was good if you don't like raw sushi. The sauce tied it together. It's a lot going on, but still good. 8/10. We also got the dynamite roll. As I said before, if you like cooked sushi, this is a good option. It was hot and tasty. Lots of flavor packed into. 8/10. We also got a plain yellowtail sushi roll, which is basic, but still good. Was so happy to see that a sushi bar was opening up right in my backyard. After months of waiting, they are open and ready for business. I called in for a take out order after stopping by the previous day. Their menu is large and has many options along with 3 coupons within. Our order was as follows: Yaki Udon, Sushi Deluxe combo, Sexy Girl (not kidding), Sweet Potato Roll and California roll. First the Yaki Udon. Flavorful noodles with vegetables done very well. Add some sriracha and we were very pleased. Sexy Girl: This was a shrimp tempura roll topped with spicy tuna with jalepenos and sriracha on top. I'm not going to lie, this was my least favorite. It was just not too flavorful and not worth the nearly 13 dollar price. Sushi Deluxe: A playe full of 2 salmon, 2 tuna, 2 escolar, 2 yellowfin, and a shrimp sushi. This is where Moko Sushi really shined. The fish was fresh and flavorful. The escolar was buttery and delicious. The tuna was a deep red, full of flavor, and melted in my mouth. The salmon and yellow fin were both great as well. This came with a spicy tuna roll which was average but definitely not bad. Sweet Potato roll: Surprisingly good, cooked to perfection and delicious California Roll: This was my main complaint. I feel that here in the US California rolls are the bread and butter of the sushi world. Usually it is made up a little with some mayo or something to give the crab a little extra however this was literally just a imitation crab stick, avocado, and cucumber. Nothing added. It was bland and I was a little sad. So my overall thought is to stick with the sushi. It was better than any I have had in the area in a long time. The rolls are average. I am happy to have a new sushi place nearby and will definitely be returning. I hope they read the feedback and try to step up their California roll game. read more

The dining area is clean and modern. Doesn't take away from the experience. I ordered the Unagi Donburi (eel on rice) and salmon skin hand roll. Both are sweet dishes which is something they overdid. Both were extremely sweet. Could be considered unbearable to some. The unagi was served on a plate which isn't traditional and I just find it hard to eat rice off a plate with chopsticks The handroll was also extremely sweet.
