Awesome staff. Great store. I have been coming in here since literally my first day on my first visit to New Orleans. Where do I start? I guess with the staff. Nearly all of them have excellent taste in closthes/shoes/etc, as well as extensive knowledge of product lines and new merch. I was informed on Monday by a salesperson that vegan doc martens will be sold here soon! How awesome is it to know what is coming out before, so I can save up for it, and get it before anyone else in town?! The dresses are to die for here. Rockabilly dresses galore that are in many different sizes adorn the racks. Sailor dresses? Check. Pinup dresses? Got it. Sparkley sequin dresses? Got that too. The shoe selection is killer and super varied. Biker boots, sure, but I love the girly shoes and rain boots! Even the stuff on sale is stylish and adorable. I popped in the other day and noted the cute sock selection that has just popped up too! I'd recommend this place for costumes too. I always pop in here when I am in need of tights, makeup, or just that little extra accesory to make my costume pop! You won't have a problem finding an entire outfit from this place. Jewlery, hair clips, purses and belts are all around you, causing shopping heaven to exist on earth. read more

Really cute store with "rockabilly" and "retro" kind of styles. I do agree that it's a little pricey, but for the French Quarter it really isn't that bad. Here you will find all kinds of "swing" dresses as well as different looks for men who are into the retro kind of look. They also have a wide assortment of cowboy boots, and if steam punk is your thing, they sell a few accessories in order to complete your costume. The store is small, but has a really wide selection of clothing and shoes to choose from. Don't forget to look in the back for the shoe selection! read more

Road Kill reminds me of legendary Dallas store Moda. A Deep Ellum institution for years, it was the go-to place for Doc Martens, Creepers, drape jackets, skin tight trousers, studded belts, etc. Road Kill isn't that cool, but it's way better than the embarrassing mall punk of Hot Topic (there are a few ex-employees working here btw) and being right in the heart of tourist central, the prices are pretty decent. It's a nice companion store to Kulture Vulture (band shirts, no affiliation) right around the corner. The kids that work here are always helpful and friendly - no "High Fidelity" attitudes to be found. Just don't take pictures in the store. They don't like it, it's their policy, so please respect it. read more

What a neat store. I was blown away by the selection of adorable ladies dresses and shoes. The men's hats are also cool. There were novelties and souvenirs. The store is small and was a bit crowded. I wouldn't drag little kids through it. The two gentlemen working the shop weren't your typical sales clerks. (Think biker type) which was unexpected but don't be apprehensive. They were so helpful and available. It was an awesome experience. I bought a great dress and my husband got a hat. They have two small fitting rooms in the back- so try on your stuff. Best store we found in all of the french quarter that carried Goth clothing for men and women. We went to this store first after finding it on accident, and this was the only store we returned to after visiting all the other stores in the french quarter. This is also the only one we bought anything at. We dealt with 2 different sales ladies, I think there was a shift change between the morning and afternoon crew. Both where super helpful and nice. The morning lady recommended an awesome hatter for us to go see to find a hat for my male friend. The afternoon lady was willing to go dig in the back to find a men's frock coat for him. Unfortunately, she only found one and it was way to big for him. We debated about getting one of the woman's versions and just switching the buttons but the sleeves where too short on him. She told us they do ship and that he should call in a week when they get some more in. They had just had a run on both items this past week. So she gave him a card with all the info for the coat on it. I saw several lovely dress and corsets that I liked there but I settled on just buying a parasol that I had been hunting for all afternoon. We will defiantly be back next time we are in New Orleans. Incredible staff and owners!!! A must visit shop for unique everyday wear and costumes

For all of the years I've lived here, I had never stopped into Road Kill, assuming it was for tourists only. However, during a Sunday stroll we wandered in because a friend had informed my husband that they carried Doc Martens in some pretty cool designs. 2 pairs of boots later, we were on our way, with plans to definitely return. Some reviews mention rude staff, but that was definitely NOT the case during our visit. The salesperson who assisted me with my boot selection was very helpful with sizing and the proper fit for cowboy boots and didn't rush us along in our selections. There's also a related art and jewelry shop next door (Jewel's Art) that has some fabulous items. read more

Oh my Gawd!!! What a wonderful place! Sam and Montana were friendly and helpful. And let me tell you, Montana can lace a corset!!! This shop has so much fun clothing and accessories. The prices aren't over the top. I walked out (this time) with two gorgeous corsets, a skirt, a RoadKill t-shirt and a beautiful parasol. If you like alternative, gothic, etc., do yourself a favor and run to this shop. I know the next time I visit New Orleans, it will be one of my first stops! read more

I wandered in on a whim while on the hunt for a full size blue parasol that was not made of lace. Life can be ridiculous sometimes. I didn't find that, but I did find two beautiful dresses in vintage cuts with cute prints. One dress was $96, the other $65, which was around the price range of most of the dresses on the rack. The staff was extremely helpful, kind, and funny! They gave me advice on sizing and made helpful suggestions. I love my new dresses and will think of them (and New Orleans) whenever I wear them. You know I feel rather guilty writing reviews for this part of Decatur. I always feel like a "homer" because I adore the tail end of this street and all of it's shops. In any case, Road Kill is a pretty good spot for not only the snug, affliction-style, "look at my man-boobs" shirts but also varing styles. My favorite part of the store is probably in the back (pass the shoes) where you can get pretty much anything and everything as far as shirts, rings, belt buckles, and other knic knacs. If I can get a day off for once, I think i'll definitely pass by there again. read more

Very cool Shop with a lot of very cool clothes, mostly geared towards women though. Lots of Steampunk type stuff, pirate gear, and shoes. The shop owner and her employees were very helpful, kind and patient with us as we slowly decided what it was we were going to buy. In the back, there is a small section where there are clearance items and that is where the money is. All of the sale prices were like 40 to 50% off. read more

I once bought a lovely item here on a trip to New Orleans two years ago and was excited to come back and purchase something new for my collection this time around. However, the owner (or whoever the bearded guy is) definitely asked me to leave for no reason, though it honestly seemed like a bigoted one. When I asked him why, he responded with, "Just because I want you to." If you scroll to other reviews further down, you'll see that I'm not the only one to have had a negative experience here. If you're not white and straight, it's in your best interest to take your business elsewhere. You can honestly purchase many of the items here directly from the sellers online and avoid the southern racism. read more

this really is a great little shop with retro/vintage, steampunk, and even dark edgy goth styles. i go for the shoe selection. they carry some great styles that you can't find just anywhere. it's a fun store to stop in and browse around. they definitely have unique items and the people that work there are always very nice and helpful. read more

I like this place, but there are some definite major drawbacks. They have some unique stuff, and a lot of things that are hard to find in New Orleans. There is an extensive selection of retro dresses in all sizes, a nice jewelry selection, and a ton of shoes to choose from. They are one of the few stores in the area that specialize in punk and goth clothing styles. The downside is that it's in a touristy area, so it's totally overpriced. I mean, I'm all about supporting local businesses, and that means sometimes overpaying for things that I could find cheaper elsewhere. But the extent to which they overprice things here was kind of ridiculous; the made in China dress that I paid $95 for is about $30-$50 cheaper online. In addition to this, the saleslady was kind of unnecessarily snarky. Listen, I work in retail. I get that you get the same repetitive questions over and over again. Yes, it was very busy and she was the only person working. But there is NO reason to be snide with someone who is spending almost $100 at your business when they ask a routine question about which credit cards you take. Sure, you can find some gems in here, but it's essentially a glorified Hot Topic. Meh. read more

Wife and friend were about to buy two pairs of boots but were not familiar with the brand. When the assumed owner or manager saw that we were looking up the reviews on our phone, we were called rude and asked to leave the store. I understand as a business owner that there will be a certain amount of mark up on price in order to make a profit. I also, as a consumer, have a right to know about a brand that I'm about to spend 325.00 on. This man wouldn't listen to why I was looking on my phone and therefore lost 625.00 in sales for his store. And guess what? We bought the boots today online for 60.00 less. We would've gladly paid the difference for the convenience of having the boots right then. read more

I went with a friend here recently, and the first portion of our visit was very nice, with an amiable store attendant assisting my friend with some shoes she was interested in buying. Not yet ready to check out, my friend was discussing other items with me and the attendant, and began to try to show the clerk a photo of hers that Road Kill had posted on their social media where she was wearing an item she BOUGHT FROM ROAD KILL. At this point, another clerk appeared from the back and told the attendant to take the shoes away, that we weren't "buying anything." He then told us with a grin that he wanted us out of "his" store. Thinking this was an attempt at being charming, we smiled and tried to joke back, like "you don't want us to buy your shoes?" He then repeated he wanted us out, that we had broken his cell phone policy, all while still smiling. Kicking patrons out before giving any warning and not allowing for any context? At best, this would have been intentionally cold and dismissive. After reading several other reviews with similar experiences, though, my friend and I have the uncomfortable feeling that the cell phone use wasn't the problem, and that she would have had a different experience if she was white. We weren't kicked out of Road Kill because of cell phones. This man, if he is the owner, is using this store to bully people of whom he's intolerant. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

Visited New Orleans on my way back home from Florida. The window display caught my eye and I had to take a peak. This store is really jam packed. Tons of inventory and I know why. You can't touch anything! Its either out of your reach or they don't want you touching it. The staff here are horrible. Extremely rude. How am I supposed to look at something and be interested in it if I can't touch it and get a full 360° look? The guy working there at the time pretty much told be to keep my hands to myself and don't touch anything! Like seriously?!?!? Besides, everything is so over priced, I mean $150 for a skirt???? Or $135 for a corset??? Hell no. Will not be coming back ever! read more

What a find. It was my first time in New Orleans. I crashed it for the New Year. It was pouring rain outside and the dress and high heels I brought to NOLA were not going to work. I decided to go shopping and my friend and I stumbled across Road Kill. We went in there and went wild. Montana ended up helping us. He has been a musician for 42 years and this is his first retail job, but he knows how to dress you like a rock star. We went on a shopping spree and it's the most fun I've had shopping in a long time! Thanks Road Kill. Hope to visit again in the future. read more

Vintage dresses, cool accessories, shoes....me heart you, Road Kill.

What a let down. How about backing the products you sell. I bought some really cool sunglasses but they ended up with a big crack in the lens after only using them for about a week, and no they were not dropped, most likely it was due to heat. If I can't use these sunglasses during the heat of the day then they are basically useless. I went back to the store and was told that their policy doesn't allow for an exchange if they have been worn. read more

I had been looking all day for a lace umbrella and they were the only store to have them. They had my favorite color too, which is yellow. If they still have the white with silver trim, I will buy that one too! After stepping into this "charming" shop and looking around for a couple minutes, I made the HUGE mistake f taking out my phone to take a pic of some super cute shoes to show my daughter. Unfortunately, I was not a responsible customer to scan the store before hand, and didn't notice the NO PICTURES ALLOWED signs he has posted somewhere in his shop. My bad I guess...the owner yelled at my friend and me to GET THE F*%K out of his shop, NOW! I apologized and said I didn't see his notice, was looking at merchandise - and didn't want to ruin his day, he was visibly upset. He quipped that it wouldn't ruin his day at all and went on to rant about technology, photos, and lower prices elsewhere. It was a 1st for me, never been thrown out of anywhere in all of my 46 years. Extremely rude customer service , I walked in asking about there most modestly priced corsets and the lady told me that I should go look at "Walmart" for a cheap corset, like I was not worth her time. Jeez lady, just because I was on a budget. Just terrible customer service , I thought about getting one of there corsets, but I immediately walked out when I got that response. Cool stuff, but horrible return policy! I bought a pair of $65 rain boots (more expensive than on the web site, but that's okay because I like to buy local) and when I got back to the hotel I realized that they just didn't fit. I took them back LESS THAN A HALF HOUR AFTER PURCHASING AND NEVER WORN THEM AND THEY WOULDN'T TAKE THEM BACK!!! Store credit only. So now I'm stuck with an extremely expensive pair of rain boots that don't fit. Bad customer service policy. read more
