I thought I was on vacation when I was leaving the store after the amazing service from Matt. A podiatrist recommended the store for the most cost effective shoe inserts for plantar fasciitis. After talking with Matt for 5 to 10 minutes I got more information than a licensed podiatrist to treat my feet. I noticed they are hiring and they pay well more than minimum wage which is a cause I can certainly support. My new custom shoe inserts were scanned so I can are now order them online to my molded foot. read more

We had an appointment that we had booked two weeks earlier for fitting. We called the day before to confirm. we got to the place on time, only to find out that their custom fitting machine is BROKEN. I went there a few weeks ago to get my first pair of running shoes in 3 years and learned a lot about my feet and what would help me. They have a 3d scanner that makes a virtual representation of your feet to make finding the perfect pair easier. I learned that I have very low arches and that one of my feet is larger than the other. I forgot the name of the employee who helped me unfortunately, but they were patient and very informative. The selection at the store was very broad as well, they had Nike, aesics, saucony, hoka, and a few others. There were also rollers, socks, insoles, and other equipment you could purchase. There was also the option to order a shoe in a color that wasn't currently stocked which I thought was helpful. In the end I got a pair of saucony guide 15s. Tldr: I was a newbie to running shoes but the service and selection here was so great and I felt that I learned a lot. I recommend! read more

My and my partner walked in on Tuesday, not knowing anything about running. Matt approached us with the kindest attitude. He helped us get fitted and scanned our feet and was able to tell us all different kinds of thing about them and what shoes would be best for us. As stated above, we had no idea what we were looking for, but Matt's knowledge and willing to help attitude made the experience a breeze. It was a very enjoyable experience especially for my partner, considering that they don't like to shop. I wanted to get some shoes properly fitted for my orthotics, I left with shoes but there was little help given in doing any sort of evaluation. I ended up finding some shoes on the clearance table, tried my size on with my orthotics inside and left. I was hoping for a better experience but that didn't happen. I don't buy sneakers too often and was hoping to really get a good pair, that will be supportive and not worsen my plantar faciaits. The staff wasn't particularly helpful or engaged, I don't know if its in part due to COVID-19 and being around strangers and you don't know if they're sick, who they've been around, so while normally this experience would have probably given them 2 stars because of COVID I will give them the benefit of the doubt. read more

There are good and bad things about Road Runner sports. The good includes an excellent Selection of shoes and clothing at reasonable prices. And generally knowledgeable sales people. They're running diagnostics for people that they offer free of charge is impressive. They can tell you whether you suponate or pronate. Whether your arches are high or low. How much support you're likely to need in your shoes. And I think we will return. In spite of the three star rating. Why three stars? Well it's really more like 3 1/2. There are some problems with the store. Prices are not transparent. They're not listed on display with the shoes. Instead they're inside the shoes and you have to go hunting for them. I had to ask one sales person just to find the price. That's ridiculous. The prices should be right next to the shoes on the display. The next problem is a high pressure sales to buy their custom insoles. They give you a free Tryon for custom insoles. But they don't carry a less expensive production equivalent. The price for the custom insoles we were looking at is $82. Almost as much is the shoe itself. It's ridiculous. It's just a piece of firmed foam. We went with a production insole we got from REI for $30. Unfortunately the high-pressure tactics didn't end with the insoles. We were encouraged to only consider high-end shoes costing $150 or more. When we asked about less expensive models on display we were told that they fall apart. We asked if they fall apart why they sell them. I think this was more a problem with our sales person than it was the store. After we set our boundaries the high pressure tactics stopped. Things ended well. We found a good pair of shoes for my son that was within our budget and some additional closing. The store has a pretty good VIP program to paid for itself the first day. In spite of my criticisms my overall impression of road runner is favorable. And I will be coming back. But no more high-pressure sales. I'm going to set a limit on spending at the start. And we don't have to worry about the insoles now read more

Outright SCAMMERS. I bought a single pair of shoes from this store a full SIX years ago, in 2013. Just today, in 2019, my credit card was charged $39.99 for a "Road Runner Sports VIP Club" membership that I never asked for and was never informed of. This is fraud. When I (regrettably) purchased that pair of shoes from Road Runner, a half-decade ago, I vowed never to return because of their incessant upselling ("here, please buy these $30 socks, you NEED them to run!)"), pushiness to give them your address, telephone and email. Sure enough, they've spent the last six years bombarding both my inbox and mailbox with junk mail. Having called their customer service line to make sure they credited me my forty bucks, Road Runner once again pressured me to give them my address, telephone number and credit card number to "look up my account". After I refused to do so, it turned out that they didn't need any of that to find my account after all....hmm, you think maybe these guys are in the business of data-mining and defrauding their customers as much as they're in the shoe business? What's more, as a competitive runner and racer for over half of my life, I was not impressed by the "running expert" sales associate who insisted that the kind of shoe that I was seeking was not the right shoe for me because they didn't carry any shoes like that. I had told him that I was looking for a neutral shoe with relatively little support and cushioning. He launched into a spiel about how "more support is better for you" and how I "needed" a different shoe, and how manufacturers "don't really make shoes like that" (my shoe rack begs to differ) because everything on display at their shop at that time was clearly ultra-cushioned and heavy. Having bought and used close to 50 pairs of running shoes at that point (you should replace each pair after 200-400 miles, or you risk greatly increasing your chance of injury), I'd like to have thought that I knew a bit about my preferences and what kind of shoes was suited to my physiology - in addition to having my gait analyzed by several podiatrists - but this gentleman wouldn't let up until I asked him if he ran at all. His response? "I, uh, like to ride my bike sometimes". That really speaks for itself, doesn't it? If I was you, I wouldn't shop here even once. It's not worth the prolific junk mailing, fraudulent charges and oh, by the way, grossly overpriced shoes that can be had for much lower prices at nearby shops. Don't let one of their "expert" bike-riding salespeople waste your time, either. read more

I first went to Potomac River Running and was super disappointed with the very limited options in stock, so I googled and found Road Runner Sports. I visited this running store for the first time and was super impressed by the excellent customer service and state of the art equipment - heads and tails above the first store. They used 3D equipment to look at my feet from all angles to identify the best shoe for me. In actuality, it just confirmed that I was already using the best shoe for me. Then, when they didn't have my shoe size in stock for the color I really wanted, the sales woman went online, made phone calls, and found me what I wanted. I ended up needing to order a pair online to be shipped to a military address overseas. She went above and beyond to go online and try a test address for a military family member to be sure it would work, then guided me through the purchase on my phone to be sure it went through properly. I've never experienced this level of top notch customer service at a running store before. I'll definitely return! I only wish I could remember the sales associate's name. I only recall she was French and extremely nice and helpful. read more

Road Runner Sports in Sterling is my go-to store for athletic shoes. Over the years that I've shopped here, I have always walked away as a highly satisfied customer. Every sales associate has always gone out of their way to help me find the right shoe. I just recently visited the store in an attempt to find a shoe that would help to relieve my foot pain. It took severals attempts/visits, but each time Marcus greeted me warmly and worked hard to help me. He never made me feel as though he was losing patience with me. She did an excellent job of listening to the type of running I wanted to do and explaining the process that RRS uses to fit you to the proper shoes. I was impressed with the whole process and the time Tabatha spent with us to get me into the most comfortable shoe. I went here for shoes a couple months ago. I went through the whole process of getting fitted for a pair of shoes and inserts. My husband did the same. I would have to say I'm really not happy with the results. The inserts actually cause more back pain. I've already had them redone once and they just don't work. My husband's shoes are wearing around the ankles. They just rub his ankles in the wrong places. We spent almost $500 on two pairs of shoes and inserts and I'm happier with my $60 New Balances from Dicks. I give this place two stars instead of one because staff are friendly. read more

The clerk was friendly enough, but not very professional, using a few mild curse words while waiting on me. Having heard great reviews of the store but never having visited before, I was surprised at the service. Some shoes were brought out for me to try, but when I asked about the evaluation I've heard they perform, I was told "You can do it if you want to". Okay. I had an awesome experience at Road Runners in Sterling. I must admit that i usually go to the Falls Church location, but i won't anymore! I've struggled for years to find a shoe that felt right. After being told that I needed a neutral shoe, it wasn't until coming here and getting fitted with Conrad that I found out I needed a stability plus shoe - I know big difference! He was super knowledgeable and paid a lot more attention to detail while doing the fitting, hence the better..and more accurate suggestion on shoes. I initially had a not-so-great experience here, when I came in after a long day and not much spare time to buy a pair of shoes. However after having been reached out to by the general manager I can say I am very happy. Matt was fantastic, he took the time to walk me through various pairs of shoes, the types (stability vs neutral), and even explained some things I didn't know about shoes before. With the help of Matt, I am happy to say we did find a pair I liked, and I am wearing them comfortably as I type out this review. Two associates in the store with two customers. One of the associates was helping a guy try a shoe on, who was indecisive about if he wanted them or not. I knew what I needed-just wanted a fast checkout. The associate was hovering over the other guy just killing time. Wouldn't even acknowledge me. I asked if he could quickly grab a shoe for me and told me I had to wait, even though he was literally doing nothing. Waited 20 minutes to get a shoe. Just didn't seem very efficient-nor was he friendly or apologetic. read more

Today I received service from Allison. She couldn't have been better. I did a lot of running in while in the Army but was never educated on what kind of shoes were right for me. She took the time to walk me through the entire process of watching me run, recommending specific shoes and gave me the time to try on all options that she suggested. Now have three pair, two from RRS and one from another source not stocked at RRS. Have been wonderful so far. Will get to try the Lone Peak trail shoe soon in addition to the Torin and Duo road shoes which have been great. Now, if they would only make neoprene booties and shoes for watersports. read more

Went into Road Runner on a mission. I wanted my Mizunos and I was able to chat with Corey a bit to figure out what size I needed and more importantly - how many I needed. Let's be clear, I hate running, I hate it with a passion but I have to do it as part of boxing so I know my gait, I know my running style and I know my high arches and Mizunos have never let me down. He was friendly and we talked a bit while we were ringing up and it was a nice experience. I let my membership run out so I paid the non VIP price but still, Mizunos are expensive but it saves me from feeling like 1,000 knives stab me every time I run. Great experience. Adonis, the fit expert measured my feet, asked me what types of exercises I did and how often and brought out about 8 different pairs to try. I have rather high arches and insteps so it wasn't easy but he stuck with me until I got the proper fit and even suggested a custom fitted insole which he was able to do for me right there. The staff is really helpful here every time I walk in. The prices are competitive if you have a membership. I've found they beat Amazon prices most of the time and you have the added bonus of being able to try the shoes for 90 days and exchange them within those 90 days if you are not completely satisfied. Do the gait analysis. It really helps narrow down the best shoes for your feet and stride. I found shoes I would never have considered otherwise and my feet have never been happier. read more

Awful service. I gave it two and a half stars because the selection seemed to be good, they had treadmills and other equipment to help fit and try out shoes and the staff members were wearing masks. Otherwise, the service was awful. The guy on staff addressed my husband not me. He seemed hesitant to help me. He brought me a couple of pairs of shoes. I asked to see more because I didn't like the style or fit. He said he'd be back but he totally abandoned me for some other guy that has just walked in. I had told him that I had knee problems and he didn't really help me get fitted. But this new guy he was measuring him and had him try out the equipment to get properly fitted.
