They measured his feet and brought out several options and took a good look at the fit for each one. I really appreciated their patience and knowledge! It's truly a lost art as Stride Rite closed its stores and Nordstrom no longer emphasizes fitting. We usually go to Maryland for shoes, because my son has flat wide feet. However, I heard great things about Fit Right and decided to give them a shot. They exceeded my expectations! The store itself is tiny, but well stocked. We were immediately greeted and Pam (the owner) meticulously measured my son's feet. She brought out several different options and carefully helped us determine the best fit for my son's unique feet. Pam was amazingly patient with an exuberant four year old who wanted to be outside playing, not shoe shopping with mama. I also appreciated that she explained why the particular size and style we selected is ideal for my son's feet. You do not receive that level of customer service very often! They also keep each child's size on file in order to better assist you next time. We look forward to returning the next time we need shoes. read more

We have bought shoes for my three year old son and 7 year old daughter from Fit Right. Everyone is great with my kids. They measure them well and notice details like they have narrow feet that other stores have not noticed. They watch the kids walk around in the shoes to make sure they are right for their feet. My daughter's shoes were not wearing properly...part of the shoe was coming off--after less than a month. We brought them back to the store and we were able to exchange them without a hassle. We arrived at Fit Right 20mn before close on a Saturday. I felt bad about it and was hoping they wouldn't be too annoyed. Thankfully, they were helpful, friendly, and knowledgable without any hint of annoyance. My preschool age daughter wears SMO braces, which cause her foot profile to become very wide. We have had no luck at other shoe stores in the area, including Stride Rite (before they all closed) and Nordstrom. It was so frustrating to have these (expensive and necessary) braces with no shoes that worked. Another mom in a similar situation recommended Fit Right and I am in her debt. I walked in the door holding my daughter's braces and announced, "I'm looking for shoes that work with SMOs." "Oh, no problem, we can handle that." And to our appreciation, they really could. They pulled out two pairs of preschooler friendly shoes and expertly fit my daughter, all while calling her by her name, engaging her in conversation, and humoring her older, very extroverted sister. At this point, I would have paid pretty much anything for a pair of easy-to-put-on, properly fitting sneakers for my daughter - and I was anticipating a hefty price tag. (Cute was an after thought at this point, but we got that too!) Nope. Fit Right's prices were right in line with Stride Rite, Nordstrom, Zappos, etc. Their customer service, expertise, and selection blow everyone else out of the water. We will be regulars from here on out, for both my SMO-wearing daughter and her easier-to-fit sister. Happy to support a small, independent business with hardworking, warm, and knowledgable staff. read more

I took my kids here last weekend and I'm glad I did. Their prices are reasonable especially for a good pair of sturdy shoes. Customer service was great and they took the time to measure my kids' feet and make appropriate shoe recommendations. I definitely see taking my kids here again especially after Stride Rite closed its brick and mortar stores. The shoe selection, quality, and styles are on point. I was even able to purchase shoes and sneakers that are washable-- which is a huge plus. It's also great to know I'm supporting a locally owned family business. Keep up the great work! I'm a little late in writing this review but felt it was important other are aware. It has been difficult to find shoes for my son so when I heard about this place I was super excited. When we arrived they did not have my son's size in the shoes that I wanted. The two sales women proceeded to try to sell me shoes that were so big my son could not walk in them and were telling me over and over that they fit. Then they noticed something about my sons toes to which I replied that we have already seen an orthopedic specialist and some physical therapists. They then decided that they knew better than the specialists and decided to tell me that what the specialists said was incorrect and that they knew the correct form of action for my son. Next they went on to explain the way that my son should be treated and that they knew more than the doctors and actual physical therapists. Then to top it all off they decided to tell me all of the decisions that I have made wrong as his mother and that they were in fact the ones who knew what they were talking about. The entire time speaking down to me and reprimanding me for the current shoes that he was wearing and listing all the reasons theirs were better. Needless to say I have never and will never go back and will caution others as Pam E., I never specified in my review when I was there but did specifically say I was late in writing.... you're right, you do not have a record of me as a customer because I was so incredibly offended by the way I was treated that I walked out without purchasing anything and never would from your store. As for the second half of your comment it is funny that you say that some shoes don't fit bc even though the shoes were huge on my child your sales person insisted that they fit. You may have worked with those specialists but it doesn't mean you have their education. My son does not wear orthotics but your staff and the manager (not sure if it was you as I can't fully see your picture) seemed to think you knew what was best for my child and that they were needed despite the specialists and x-rays.... read more

I'd heard from many friends & acquaintances about this place... that it's great and makes up for all of the stride rites closings because they measure the kids' feet & make sure the shoes "fit right". So, we stopped in around 4:30 on a Saturday (they close at 5) for a pair or two of shoes for our son. Two workers at the time and there were 2 other families there getting measured & picking out shoes/socks so we took a seat on the couches & waited. Our son had fallen asleep so we really weren't in a huge hurry but once it got to be after 5 o'clock and we were not even acknowledged let alone asked what we were looking for we decided to get up and walk out. This place is pretty small so there was no missing us. Neither employee said a word to us as we walked out. Completely unprofessional & rude. I will never "shop" here again. read more

My son has a very wide instep and shoes are hard to fit him. We drove from Alexandria almost 40 mins to this store and it was worth it. The woman who assisted our family was excellent. Very patient and helpful with all the shoes my son tried on. Please note these are quality shoes and we paid approximately $50 a pair. Worth every dollar. read more

Was looking for a store that specializes in children's shoes and found this place online. We drove from Alexandria (so about an hour) with a toddler in tow. Our original ETA was 45-50 mins prior to their 5 pm closing, but with a major accident on 66, we got there with ten minutes to spare. The doors were shut, the two sales clerks inside mouthed "we're closed," then ignored us completely. Here's the thing, if your posted hours are "11 am to 5 pm" on Saturday that means you're open "11 am to 5 pm" on Saturday. I've worked retail and yup, it sucks when a customer walks in last minute, but that's part of the job. Most of these places work on commission and I was prepared to buy A LOT of shoes. (Little one just started walking and when it comes to buying stuff for him, our budget goes out the window.) Multiply this by new shoes every couple of months for the next 18 years...to quote Julia Roberts -- "Big mistake! Huge!" Instead, we drove under a mile to the DSW down the road, got my son's foot measured by the friendly sales clerk there, then bough him ALL DA SHOES (their selection was great)! Also, had one of the sales clerks actually bothered talking to us, apologized for the early closing, you know -- been remotely nice and respectful, I would have come back the next day (and left our house earlier, knowing now that it takes well over an hour to get there, no matter what Waze tells you.) Save yourself the hassle and the traffic. I did some additional research and there are two kid shoe stores that are much closer in to DC -- one in Chevy Chase and one in Del Ray, so I'll be checking them out in the next couple of weeks. read more

The following was a letter sent after my experience. I'll never be back, and I'm shocked a small business like this in our area is still opening with this type of customer service. To whom it may concern, I am writing to give feedback on my experience in your store this morning. I went in around 11am with my 1 year old and 4 year old. The store was empty with no one behind the desk when we entered. We were greeted by a middle aged African American woman (her picture is attached since she didn't state her name), and I asked if I could have my kids feet measured. Instead of saying sure and asking what I was looking for, she told me REPEATEDLY that the size of their foot meant nothing and it depended on the shoe and the fit. I am a fairly bright individual and understand this concept, but I wanted their feet measured, and it was almost like she was convincing me not to or she just plain didn't want to. She agreed and when she measured my one year old she started crying. Your employee jumped back and when I said it's ok, she's going to cry you can still do it, she said "well not in my ear!" After she finished measuring their feet, which was CLEARLY an inconvenience to her, she went back behind the desk. Zero offer to help if I wanted to look around or if I had any questions. She didn't ask me what I was looking for or if she could show me shoes in their size. I asked a question and her response was the same as before-"the number means nothing, it depends on the shoe and the fit." Ummmm, ok then. She could have offered to bring out some samples or examples but she did not. My son has several pairs of Natives and I was going to buy another. Your employee saw me holding them and talking to him about them, but she didn't make any effort to ask if I wanted to see them in his size or to see how they fit-you know-because every shoe has a different fit and the number doesn't mean anything. I had to ask where the baby shoes were and what they had in my daughter's size. She vaguely pointed to a section and said her options "would be in this area". When I held up a pair of sandals and asked if she had them she said, "Oh no, they don't even make them in that size, we don't have them." I asked for specifics on which shoes you had in her size and she pointed to 3 pairs of sneakers. I told her I was looking for sandals and she said, "Oh no, you're not going to get any sandals. These are fall shoes-you have to get sandals in March." Again-no help or advice on where I could get sandals, what brands might fit her well, offer to special order some sandals-nothing. I put the Natives back and left for good-I will never frequent this store again. As a small business owner myself, I am appalled at her customer service. She was the most clearly inconvenienced and unhelpful employee I have ever encountered. It was quite obvious she had zero interest in gaining a customer or getting a sale. In the world of e-commerce, this is exactly why stores like yours are going out of business. I had a budget of $100 today and I immediately came home and ordered my son's Natives and shoes for my daughter online instead of putting it into your store-the ONLY reason being because of this employee. Another small detail to note was that she had ZERO interaction with my son or daughter. I understand if people don't enjoy kids, but she is working in a CHILDREN'S shoe store. I hope management will address these complaints and provide the proper training or better hiring in the future. read more

This was my second time visiting Fit Right. We bought our son's first real shoes there and I couldn't have been happier. They fitted him and found shoes that were cute, and fit appropriately for his foot. The price is not cheap but they were definitely quality. They lasted six months! I appreciated the time and attention we got visiting and I will not purchase shoes from any other place for my toddlers growing feet. read more

I don't usually take the time to leave a review about a place, but I was so pleased with our experience here! Sierra was so patient, kind, and helpful with getting our daughter fitted for her very first pair of shoes. Our normally easy going daughter had a melt down, but Sierra was so patient with her. She took the time to explain to us the importance of properly fitted shoes when babies first start walking, how we know when she needs new shoes, when we should take her back to check to see if her shoes are still fitting properly or if she needs new ones, how we should break her into the new shoes, etc. I highly recommend this store! read more

Where do I start? I drove 40 minutes to get to the store in order to replace the high end (over priced) shoes I bought there just 4 months ago - both pairs totally falling apart already. We arrived a few minutes early because of the very long wait we experienced on our last visit. At 11:59 the woman behind the register stuck her finger in the air, barely acknowledging us. Fair enough, they open at 12. At 12:02, I gently tapped on the window to see if we could come in (it was 30 degrees out and my kids were shivering). They reluctantly opened the door and rudely started telling me they couldn't open until their register was up. Look, don't leave us standing in the freezing cold because of your failure to open on time. Then the owner came out and started attacking us like a bull dog, repeating that it's her store and she'll open when she wants. Wow. Wow. Wow. So I told the kids we were leaving and she looked at my 4 and 5 year old and told them to get out. I don't know what kind of morning this lady was having, but my kids and I were clearly on the receiving end. There is no way I would ever give her a penny of my money. She lost us as customers today, and clearly she could care less. read more

Today was my second time going to Fit Right. I really wanted to like this store but after two experiences there that were less than impressive, I won't be returning and/or recommending it to others. The first time was a few months ago and we arrived prior to the store opening and the doors were locked. The employee looked at us waiting at the door but did not acknowledge our presence. OK no worries, we went and killed some time at Hallmark and came back. The employee who told me she was the daughter of the owner, seemed to be less than thrilled to be working. I mean honestly I can't blame her, it can't be fun trying to measure kids feet all day but after all this is a family business and it seems to me that being a little more outgoing and personable (atleast saying hi or acknowledging customers presence) to the customers who want to support a small local business. I ended up spending over $100 for 2 pairs of shoes for toddlers. This is not cheap but I was willing to pay and support their business. I just wrote this experience off as a fluke and maybe just not a good day for the employee. Well today it's 30 degrees out, I show up 2-3 minutes prior to the store opening, only seconds after another employee showed up for work and the door is locked. Ok cool no problem I can handle wrestling my toddler for two more minutes in the freezing cold. The employees look at me standing outside of the door but do not acknowledge my existence. Ok fine, no worries they are still technically "closed". I wait until 11AM since this is the time posted on the door that they open, I try to open the door once again. Still locked. Employee still sitting behind the register clearly able to see I'm trying to come into the store. It's freezing outside and clearly they are not concerned that they just watched a customer who WANTED to support their business, walk away! After getting my toddler back into the car seat and begin driving away another family walk up (of course the door is still locked even after the store is supposed to be open). I can't understand this mindset and you hear about small businesses who are struggling--they clearly are not or simply just did not care. Either way, I'm ok with buying multiple sizes of shoes from Amazon and returning them moving forward. I won't waste my time going back here again. read more

My mom and I took my 1 year old today to get shoes and Cierra was fantastic. My daughter was crying and unsure and Cierra was so patient and informative. She gave us options and a plan moving forward on when to have my daughter come back to get a sizing check. What a terrific shoe store for kids. There are very few locally owned shoe stores in the area I have been able to track down, so I was thrilled that this one is so special. The two women who helped me find the perfect shoes for my toddler (one was the owner, I believe) were incredibly knowledgable, attentive, and patient.
