The plants and water features are outstanding, and it is such a delight to just wander around and soak it all in. Really, what can I say that hasn't been said by many other visitors? If you aren't captivated by the running water, the intricate rock gardens, or the lovely koi fish, then there is something wrong with you. This is such a gorgeous gem, and a must-see attraction in Portland, especially if you are already wandering around the Washington Park area. Some of the changes in the years since I visited are a whole new entranceway, with an amazing water foundtain. Plus, a redesigned plaza with new gift shop, cafe, and a library. Oh, and speaking of the the cafe, do try out some of the excellent teas and Japanese snacks on offer here. Plus, all the staff and docents working here were very friendly and helpful. As for a few things to be aware of: First, the parking situation is a pain. There are pay-to-park spots, but not enough for the crowds. So you should really plan to either walk over to the gardens from somewhere else in the park, or take the park shuttle service. Also, as some have also noted, the number of people visiting can sort of harsh the serenity a bit. So do your part, and be a courteous visitor, and try to keep things mellow, chill, and quiet enough for others to also enjoy. In a city so full of other gorgeous gardens, I have to say these stand out. It's a city favorite for a reason.

On our way here we visited multiple gardens and flower farms in Salem and the surrounding area that were completely free and FAR superior. They charge $14 per person to visit the garden and in my opinion it's not worth it. The employees we interacted with were unhelpful, unknowledgeable and apathetic but beyond the poor service, the grounds themselves were disappointing. There are dead and dying plants everywhere, shade and seating are scarce and there is very little of interest to see. If you enjoy paths and trees, visit any local park and the sites will be as good. If you love roses, visit Owen Rose Garden or if you like peonys, irises, etc there are multiple farms in the area to visit for free. Unless you love the smell of hot fertilizer and throwing your money away, this is not it. Their "Amazing" water garden consists of a few algae topped ponds. They also claim to be dog friendly but they are as dog friendly as a sidewalk. They have a tram tour that literally stopped in the walkway blocking all the walking guests from proceeding while robotically reading a speech and leaving everyone to stand there in the sun until they were done. This whole experience was just so unenjoyable. I rarely leave bad reviews and I Yelp to help others avoid my mistakes so if you are reading this, please don't waste your time or money here. There are so many other great options. Oh, and to the "Business Manager" who obligatorily responds all the unflattering reviews in an effort to appear as though customer service is important, but is ultimately condescending, it's not helping your cause, so feel free to spare us all.

Even though the plants' condition in March leaves a lot to be desired, as not very much is coming into season yet, there was plenty to take in. The variety of landscaping/hardscaping is impressive, the views incredible, the plant collection inspiring (even my very non-aggie partner took notes on what we could possibly incorporate into our own yard). It's obvious that plenty of care and planning went into the garden spaces. Highlights for me included the conifer forest and the wetlands areas. The Lewis and Clark pathway with its stonehenge-like pillars was neat too. Each section has its own hidden treasures and spaces for reflection. Would love to come back in spring or summer to see what's changed.

We had an event near Salem so we thought we'd stop by. It's so quaint, gorgeous and proved to be lovely get away for the afternoon. It's not overly large as you can most likely walk and enjoy the trails, gardens and sights in about 30 minutes. There is a house tour but only on limited days/times and the day we visited was not one of those days. Beautiful flowers, tucked away benches and meandering trails all made for a wonderful walk. There is a half hour loop, a one hour loop, a two hour loop, or just take any of the trails and spend the whole day out there. On one trail there's a beautiful viewing deck. On another trail there's some benches so you can just sit and ponder. If you take the trail from the arboretum back towards the Japanese garden, there's a place where you can get this really great view of Mount Hood in the distance. Definitely stop by the Visitor Center and get a free trail map. Wish we would have had that when we started! The visitor center sells water and soda but you're better off just bringing you home refillable bottle, and you can use the water fountain to refill it.

The setting was perfect for capturing a few sweet family photos. We wound through the garden showing our appreciation for the varied colors and sizes of roses. There are several arches and benches that lend to photo ops in addition to the Gold Man standing atop the Capitol building overlooking us. We brought our Pendleton picnic blanket and perched under the giant tree to enjoy one another's company and a snack over a game of gin rummy. This little spot is a special hideaway and perfect stop on a beautiful day.

This rose garden is absolutely beautiful, with many varieties of roses in every color. My favorite parts was the labeled fragrance roses, remember to stop and smell each one. It's a fun way to experience the garden. Be extra careful, car break-ins can happen in this area. We saw a car with its window smashed during our visit. Don't leave any valuables or visible items inside your vehicle, even for a short time. Overall, it's a gorgeous place to walk around, take photos, and enjoy the variety of roses.

It's located in Washington Park and was the perfect way to spend a few relaxing hours. I had afternoon tea nearby, so I ended up taking a scenic walk to the garden. If you'd rather skip the hike, it's easy to reach by bus or the MAX from downtown. Washington Park also offers a free shuttle from the MAX station to the rose garden, making it very accessible. The garden is home to more than 10,000 rose bushes representing over 600 varieties. I visited in mid-June, which is peak bloom season, and the displays were absolutely stunning. Everywhere I looked, there were vibrant colors, beautiful fragrances, and countless photo opportunities. Best of all, admission is completely free! Whether you're a gardening enthusiast, love photography, or just want a peaceful place to stroll, the International Rose Test Garden is definitely worth a visit.

I was the star of the evening, and I basked in the rays of admiration from my followers.... I remember the Bush House vividly, like it was just yesterday that I was there. I assume that the memory is ingrained so deeply because it was the first (and last) time that anything artistic of mine was displayed in public. From what I remember the place was weird and creepy. I remember brown carpet, low ceilings, and an eery quiet that really made gazers of my clown painting uncomfortable. Perhaps I should go back some time.
