The tour was great and you got close to the cats but it was a hot day and the animals were not active. Well the tigers were active. We brought a lunch and sat and ate by the lake ( picnic style) while you got to ask questions about the cats or facilities. Once all the questions where answered the owner tippy herself came out to thank you for visiting and supporting the facility. You also got to ask tippy questions as well. I love that she lives on the property with all the cats. Wish they still had the elephants tho. I would like to go back but would try the sunset tour to see if the animals are more active and for cooler weather.

Shambala is a fantastic place to visit and see big cats up-close. I had never been to Shambala before but based on what I had read, it sounded like a really cool place to experience. I signed up for the Safari Tour. (I was able to call and put my name on the list rather than send in a reservation form via mail.) We got there 30 minutes before the tours started and checked in. They give each person a raffle ticket and a sticker that assigns you to a specific tour group. At noon, they had us all walk in together. The entrance takes you right through by several animals, including a tiger, a cougar, and several small cats. They went over the rules quickly, the big rule being stay behind the ropes, which are 4 feet away from the cages. We then broke off into 3 tour groups of about 20-or-so people. The walking tour lasts for about an hour, during which you get to see all of the animals pretty up-close. You'll hear lots of roaring all around and you'll see lions, tigers, leopards, and cervals. Some cats were sleeping but several were active and walked right up to the fences to greet people. There is so much to see and it is so cool! At all times there will be a chainlink fence in between you and the animals, which is frustrating if you want to get a nice clear picture of the animals, but necessary considering the preserve is there to educate people about how dangerous these animals are. (A great picture is probably not worth being mauled by a giant cat.) After the tour, you have lunch at the picnic area by the lake. If you bring a lunch, you can keep it in a cooler and at the beginning they'll take everyone's lunches in on a cart and set them under a shaded gazebo in the picnic area. While we were eating, one of the tigers was splashing around in the lake within his enclosure near us. It was so cool to see! There are also a lot of interesting birds nearby, including a crane and lots of ravens. After lunch, Tippi Hedren gave us all a talk and told us some stories. During the tour, they asked us to save a lot of questions for her at the end because they were "great stories that everyone should hear". However, she didn't seem to know many of these "great stories", so that was a bit of a letdown. Overall, this day was absolutely great. I really enjoyed myself, took a bunch of great pictures, and learned a lot about the cats. PROS: Great tour, get to see cats up-close, can bring a lunch to eat by the lake, really cool environment, free and available parking (dirt lot), clean port-a-potty toilets CONS: Visiting is bit expensive, talk at the end is drawn-out, there is no shade to sit in while Tippi talks My advice... Definitely visit Shambala. Bring sunscreen, a hat, a camera, and lunch in a cooler. Then, get ready for an awesome time!

This is a small, cute animal sanctuary, and while it's definitely on the smaller side, I think that's where donations can really make a difference. There's so much potential for this place to have more space and continue helping even more animals. The staff was absolutely wonderful...friendly, welcoming, and very knowledgeable. They shared stories about the animals with us, along with some interesting wildlife facts, and I really enjoyed learning more about the animals we were seeing. The only thing I would have really loved was more interaction with the animals. But I completely understand that they're wild animals, so that's not always an option...and honestly, a girl can dream, lol! One thing that really stood out to me was how happy everyone seemed to be working there. You could genuinely tell that the staff cares about the animals and enjoys what they do, and I think that says a lot about the organization. We had a great experience and I would definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area and looking for a quick, fun visit. Just keep in mind that it is a smaller sanctuary, so if you're able to, please consider donating! Your support can help them expand, care for the animals, and continue the wonderful work they've been doing for many, many years. Such a sweet place with people who clearly have big hearts for animals!

Huge thanks to Super Elite Yelper Gary I. for suggesting our visit to this unique animal rescue…read more Animal Tracks rescues animals, some exotic and some not, and aims to take the very best care of them that they can. Their public tours are an effort to raise funds for animal maintenance and to educate the public about the harm to the animals of raising non-domesticated exotic pets. The stories they tell are frightening. Who in their right mind would try to raise a wolf family in an apartment? Who with any common sense would think a monkey would make a good pet? People can be extremely stupid and self-centered when it comes to exotic animals, unfortunately. This is why so many exotic animals end up in danger, on the streets, or in packed rescues. The mostly-volunteer staff did a remarkable job introducing us to the animals in their care. The wide variety of animals calling Animal Tracks home is mind-boggling: birds, kangaroos, wolves, porcupines, baboons, donkeys, horses....the list goes on and on. The animals seemed clean and well-cared for by staff that is very invested. The only issue we had was parking access. Our car was blocked in by another guest's car for at least 20 minutes, without any warning that we might be blocked in. Finally, a staff member asked the remaining guests who was parked there and they did eventually move their car. If you are an animal lover, the tour is highly recommended. Perfect for kids!

Our tour focused on the importance of helping our fellow primates survive and the risks that we, their cousins, create for them through development, deforestation, and poaching. We were provided with a lot of information related to Gibbons' development, social relationships, and habits. Did you know that Gibbons get "married" and "divorced"? Most commonly, they mate for the life of the couple but it doesn't always work out. We were told about one previously happy Gibbon couple with four children that divorced over.....discipling the children! (Are you surprised? I'm not!) The center is immaculately maintained and the Gibbons appear extremely happy and healthy. We were fortunate to see a year-old baby interacting with family members and to hear the famous Gibbon calls when we first arrived. The center could benefit from a designated handicapped parking spot in front to facilitate entry. If you want to learn more about how to help Gibbons, schedule a tour! Highly recommended.

We were celebrating my great niece's birthday, and she's a big animal lover, like I am, so I had to figure out something that she had never experienced before. She just loved GCC! We've always had awesome tour guides, that are so informative and helpful answering questions! The gibbon's are such characters, and each are unique in their own way! We love it when the gibbon's break out in song! I can't imagine hearing this out in a jungle, if you don't know what is making the noise! It was so awesome to see a mama with her baby on our last visit! We've been there in February, and it can be a bit chilly for the 10 AM public tour, and this last time it was August and we were blessed with cooler weather, so it was perfect! Bring water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and I recommend a hat. I also recommend clothes shoes as you are walking in dirt, and as a safety precaution for diseases, you do have to dip the soles of your shoes in a bleach solution before entering. For our August tour, we were the only people, so it was almost like a private tour, which was amazing! The tour is about an hour, but we were there for an hour and a half last time! You need to make a reservation, and the tours are done on Saturdays and Sundays. The public tour is $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors and $10 for children 3-12. Don't forget to tip your tour guide! They always put it right in the donation box! ;) They also have a little gift shop, and I get so many compliments on my gibbon earrings! This is such a wonderful experience for anyone, and you go away with a smile and a wealth of information regarding gibbon's!

We arrived to find parking along a busy highway (?!?), with golf carts shuttling visitors to and from the entrance, just a few feet away from cars whizzing past. That was weird. Then we got to the sort of holding area where they keep guests until their reservation time. Before we went in, the owner came out to greet us...sort of. She gave us a basic history of the place, but before she did, she wished us "happy pride" and told us all about how virtuous she was, as if everyone should be celebrating? Weird and inappropriate to say the least. The last thing she did before allowing us the entrance we'd paid handsomely for, was to lecture us about becoming vegans. Which is one of my biggest pet peeves about vegans to begin with. Then she stood at the entrance and offered everyone literature on veganism as we walked past. I declined. Wholly inappropriate, offensive and off putting. I didn't pay to be lectured about something I disagree with. It was nice to (finally) see and interact with the animals, but some of the volunteers were too much. I understand they're used to dealing with idiots every weekend, but some of the instructions they were giving were flat out dangerous, like having babies (maybe 18 months old) feed carrots to grabby, nippy horses. Bad idea when little hands aren't any bigger than the carrots. Most (not all) volunteers were just a bit too power trippy and under-educated for my taste. I will say the facilities were pretty clean and appeared well kept, but the horses and donkeys were filthy and in dire need of grooming. Give your visitors brushes and curry combs and show them how to brush the animals. Win-win for everyone. It was nice to hang out with the animals, but most of the people I could do without. Probably won't be back again.
