Came upon this place while looking online For Pollo con tajadas and was surprised to find a Honduran restaurant so close by. The food was good, got the chicken breast, the portion was small considering that I paid $28 for two orders which is confusing because it's supposed to be $10.99 a plate. I imagine they maybe haven't updated the menu. The banana was good love the sauce and the broth. Wish they added more sauce to the dish as the Breast was dry. Great Honduran restaurant tucked inbetween a Haitian church and a furniture store. A friend I was traveling to Htown with is Honduran and she was craving her homeland food when we found this place and decided we'd make a pit stop here on our way back to Austin. I was new to Honduran food but I got to know it with a quickness. Baleadas especial: basically a large flour tortilla stuffed with beef, eggs, avocado, cheese and crema and folded in half. It's huge. I thought it was going to be small but the diameter of the tortilla was around 8 inches across. The tortilla was fluffy, fatty and it served as a great vessel to shovel everything else in my mouth. There was a soft cheese in there that had a slight funky taste but apparently that's how the cheese tastes. I tried my friend's enchilada and it was great. The plate comes with two large "enchiladas" covered in a cabbage pickle slaw, pico and cheese. I like how the acidity of the slaw cuts the fatty enchilada. I also ordered the huevos rancheros which had a great sauce! The plate also came with refried red beans, plantains and cheese. I was already full from the baleadas so I took most of this home. Other tips: -what looks like crema is called mantequilla (I know, mantequilla is usually butter, but that's how the Honduran's roll, man) -their "flautas" are tostadas at mexican restaurants. -their "enchiladas" are flautas at mexican restaurants. He doesn't like beef but they made an exception and got him a plate with chicken instead. Nice! We both had the mirinda orange soda drink and it was good. My husband and i found this place on Yelp whilst looking for somewhere to eat on highway 6. From the outside, this place looks grubby and a little rundown, we very nearly turned away from it. My husband is Latin so i am used to eating Latin food. This was BY FAR, THE BEST Latin food i have eaten!! The old Mama from the kitchen served the food to us, full of pride. She was super sweet and attentive. We didn't leave a bite.... In fact I am still dreaming about it today. Most likely it's because it's in an odd location and the only hint of its existence is a Honduran flag flying near the entrance to this strange looking building. You'll have to have a good eye while passing by, be referred by someone, or specifically search for Honduran food on yelp to find this place. Don't be shy to give this place a try. It's actually a small and very neat restaurant. I tried seafood soup. It came with rice and two small tortillas. It was pretty awesome. Made with coconut milk, its like curry but not like Indian or Thai curry. It had a chunk of crab, some shrimp, banana, and other vegetables in it. Love this place. I have come here twice already. The first time I came I wanted to check in but they did not have a Yelp profile yet. Honduran to the max. All their dishes taste good. The menu is somewhat limited, but if you ask them they'll even make you Honduran dishes that are not on the menu. My dad loves this place so much, he's been coming consistently ever since they opened. He has tried everything on the menu already! The Tajadas con Carne are very tasty, so are Enchiladas. Best horchata as well, since the mexican style is different than the one they make in Honduras, this is by far the closest I have had. Of course, it goes without saying that if you're going to eat at a Honduran restaurant, you should always order a Baleada. Their Baleadas are really darn good, too. Next time, I am going to order a Yuca con Chicharron. It's not on the menu, but I was already told they can make it. I've never tried a pupusa and my boyfriend ordered pork (chicharron) for us and they were so delicious! They give you a container of some kind of cabbage topping and some red sauce to dump over the pupusas, make a big mess and chow down! He also tore up a fried tilapia but that's not my cup of tea. I'm from LA and I come to visit my family often. Unfortunately they don't go out much but this place caught my eye every time I would drive down Highway 6. We really liked it. The food is tasty & reasonably priced, and they have a good variety on the menu. We tried the more authentic Honduran food (like a picadillo with shredded cabbage over plantains) and it was tasty. Try a side of beans! Refried black beans, really good. We actually dipped French fries into the beans. We have no shame, but it was also delicious. Keep in mind one dollar sign means it's a little dive-y. But they've been there for at least a few years, and that speaks to their success. We've all known nice restaurants that closed within a year of opening, right? REAL DEAL Honduran cuisine! Let me start by saying most of the Honduran restaurants I have tried in Houston have been mediocre. Ether the food is tasteless or worse the cleanliness/sanitary conditions have been sub par. Enter Roatan Cafe and Grill. The outside is unimpressive with a faded Honduran flag hanging in the front. The inside isn't anything to write home about either however everything is spotless. Tables, restrooms, and counters are immaculate. I had the Fried chicken with tajadas accompanied with the signature shredded cabbage/curtido. (Dish the waitress suggested) my goodness she was not wrong. Chicken was crispy on the outside yet incredibly moist on the inside. It tasted like never frozen good quality chicken. The tajadas were fried perfectly in what seemed perfectly clean oil. (No residue or excessively oil) The cabbage and the chicken were dressed in a delicious sauce/dressing. (I think it's made with mayo among other things.....If you're not big on sauce, ask for it on the side) My mom had the tamales Hondureños.... phenomenal!!!! The maza was tasty and moist. They were clearly freshly made. She had the chicken but they also have pork. If you're unfamiliar these are the tamales that come in a plantain leaf. Slightly different flavors than the Mexican tamales, but every bit as amazing. If you're a fan, you'll absolutely love these. Last but not least our unique drinks and dessert. We had the agua de piña limonada and agua de nance. FRESH-TASTY-REFRESHING. The piña drink is lighter while the nance tastes a little thicker (if you're in the mood for horchata, drink this) The coconut flan is unique, made in house, and very tasty. All around delicious. The coconut shrimp is a winner, albeit different from what I had expected (instead of being coated in coconut flakes and fried, they are covered in a tasty coconut sauce). First time trying Honduran. It was excellent. Had the carne asada and my daughter had the sambo creek fried chicken. Carne asada was seasoned well and delicious. Cabbage salad was pretty great as well and fried plantains. The sambo creek chicken comes with some kind of orange sauce that's sweet and really goes well with the crispy chicken.
