For many years, I have passed this restaurant. The server told me it had been there for 12 years, which seems actually shorter than my recollection, but I won't argue the point. Why it took me so long to get here however is a mystery to me because it's a lovely restaurant. I don't mean by that the ambience it's actually rather plain however the service and the food is absolutely spectacular. I'm by no means an expert in Peruvian food however the patrons were buying for Peruvian hence I'm going to take their presence as a statement about authenticity of the food and a 12 year history. They don't sell alcohol so all of their profits are from dishes, which are absolutely spectacular. We had something a kin to an empanada, which was made with beef deep fried, but the crust was very white and very flavorful. The server gave me a side dip which added some spice to the meal however, before putting it on, I ate some without the dip and it was very flavorful. Potatoes, rice and beans are a large part of Peruvian cuisine all of which I tasted here all of which were very, very good. We got basically a sampler tray which included ceviche beef, chicken, and a potato bean combination, which was just wonderful. The waiter was kind enough to point it out to us and I'm glad he did because it was a great overview of what Peruvian food is. Since I'm not familiar with the cuisine rather than spend a great deal of time addressing it what I'm going to tell you is, it is a wonderful restaurant, the service is equally wonderful, BYOB and enjoy yourself. I will not let so much time go again before I revisit this fine Restaurant. It was a pleasure. read more

Took my friends from my car club to this place. Food was amazing, and fantastic service. We ordered the family portions, with a variety of plates. Lomo Saltado, aji de gallina, arroz con mariscos, causa de atun, ceviche de pescado. Just writing this, is making me hungry again and need to go back. There was a freaking roach on my ceviche!!!!! An entire roach!!!!!! I went there yesterday with my son and left unhappy because there was some miscommunication about my order. I thought I had ordered a $18 ceviche dish called, "Ceviche Mixto." But instead, I received the "Ceviche Mixto w/ chincharo?" I guess the waiter didn't hear me when I said no chincharro. I didn't say anything when the food arrived because I thought the chincharro meant pork? Since I didn't see any pork on my plate, I figured I got the right dish. I found out at check out only because the dish was $30 instead of $18. Apparently chincharro meant calamari ? Well, language miscommunication I guess What I didn't like was that the waiter was non apologetic about the misunderstanding. I paid the bill and left with my food which did taste pretty good. However, I took the left over home in a sealed container and to my horror, almost took a bite of this little guy that was floating on my ceviche when I was having my dinner today. I was eating STRAIGHT out of the container in case there is any doubt as to where the roach came from. So my ceviche was marinated with a roach on it!!!!! The food was not the greatest, but this was the only Peruvian Restaurant close to home. If you like white rice with soy sauce make sure to ask for plenty especially ají sauce. They only give you one, so make sure to ask for a couple of the ahi sauces and best if you speak Spanish because they don't really understand soy sauce in English unless it's asked in Spanish. In California if you go to any Peruvian Restaurant they offer you bread with butter and ají sauce, here bad thing they don't offer no bread just order either a appetizer or wait until your meal is served. The Ambience it's ok place is clean the waiters are nice but I'd say they are a little on the cheap side. I would come back unless I'm really desperately craving Peruvian food like their Lomo saltado which the meat is very tender but not the greatest and I don't think I will be going there that soon. read more

The attention was terrible, the wait time was very long and they forgot one of my orders and I had to remind the waiter after getting tired of waiting, like 20 minutes after they brought the first plate. The Causa was simple sophistication, the ceviche with two varieties of corn hit the spot, and the Arroz was beautifully flavored. Constructive criticism: the fish in the ceviche could have been cut into smaller (more dainty) pieces and the mussels/shelled seafood could have been placed on top of the rice in Arroz con Mariscos, instead of being mixed in and getting filled with soft grains of rice (making opening and eating from the shells difficult). By far, the best Peruvian restaurant in the Houston vicinity that I know of, and I have been to a number of them. The staff is very friendly and though the food is a bit pricey, it is worth every dollar, plus they serve large portions. The causa, limeña, papa a la huancaina and ceviche make the perfect appetizers. I highly recommend their lomo saltado or tallarín a la Huancaina con lomo. The beef tenderloin is alive with flavor in both dishes. Of course you can't go wrong with any seafood dishes they serve. After visiting a few years ago, I felt it was time to come back with my daughter on a school night. The place was pretty quiet on a Thursday night, but still charming inside. I ordered the Saltado de Pollo, the Papa a La Huancaina appetizer to share with her and the Tallarin Verde kids plate. Saltado de Pollo - I had honestly forgotten Peruvian food features a lot of Chinese and Japanese influences. This was basically a pricier version of Americanized-Chinese food, chicken with vegetables and rice. The chicken was a bit tough though the veggies were cooked just right. I simply ordered the wrong thing as I think the seafood or red meat choices would have been better. Papa a La Huancaina - here was a pretty tasty potato appetizer but note that it's served cold. The sauce is like a slightly spicy Hollandaise and overall the dish works well to share. Tallarin Verde - the pesto was super smooth and green and pasta was cooked well. My daughter did like this very rich pasta dish though the portions overall are so big you'll likely have leftovers to take home. The big thing to note is this place is BYOB including wine. I have a feeling that their portion sizes are inflated to justify higher menu prices because they don't have the alcohol sales that normally help keep the lights on in most restaurants. Next time we come back here it's going to have to be with a bottle of wine on a dinner night when we aren't rushed. read more

They do have a vegetarian menu but limited. There is a quinoa salad that sounded really good but once I got it there was barely any quinoa and a whole lot of cheese. Didn't feel like a salad and because there was barely any quinoa.. it wasn't filling. Having a very limited experience with Peruvian food I am being liberal with my review since this was ordered via pick up due to Covina 19. I would revisit once normal operations are resumed I had the picante de Marisco with had nothing picante about it. It had a fair serving of seafood but my thought is that it could use some additional seasoning. The rice a yucca were cooked perfectly. Maybe seeing the word picante my assumption of bold robust heat was a mistake on my part. I really wanted to try the empanadas but they were out so I went with the papa rellena. First time trying Peruvian food and this was a place close to home after all day shopping with my daughter. As soon as we walked in it definitely still smelled like dirty mop water. Visited this spot yesterday with my husband. We love ceviches and were looking for a Peruvian place that had good ceviche. We used to go to a place, but the food changed once they changed location. Anywho, we decided to try this place. It is a small location, so be prepared to wait if it is full or take to go if you feel more comfortable. Once seated, our server immediately greeted us. He was very nice and attentive. He recommended their special for the day. It had a bit of everything. It had rice with beef and pork, ceviche, jalea, and a stuffed potato. Everything was amazing! The ceviche was spot on, not too tart like other places. The stuffed potato was delicious with a cream sauce to balance the flavors. It was more than enough for 2 people. Last night I was craving Peruvian food. I had given up on this restaurant, because the portions were small and the prices were high. Sometimes the food to be under seasoned. However last night the food was perfect! The lomo saltado was tender and flavorful . The papa a la huancaina was on point! The right level of heat and flavor. Stopped in here after having an iced coffee at nearby Summer Moon. This place was great! To sum it up, very friendly and attentive service! My husband and I stopped in for a quick lunch. We both ordered the Arroz con Mariscos. Delicious Flavor, and a huge amount of food and seafood cooked perfectly! Muscles, Shrimp, Clams, squid, and scallops! Definitely had to take home half because there was so much. My kids loved trying the left overs. This was our first experience with Peruvian food and wow what an unexpected delight! Our amazing and friendly waiter saw us taking awhile to order and looking at the menu so he offered us a sampler type of plate. This was perfect because looking at the menu multiple items caught our eyes. The one item I really wanted to try was the ceviche and I had no idea what to expect since I've never seen ceviche that looked like that. I didn't know what any of the components were, but the first bite was amazing. I've never had sweet potato in my ceviche so it was the most unique bite of food I've ever experienced. It's now my favorite food officially. The Peruvian corn added a nice crunch and texture to the dish too. The Causa Limena was delicious a familiar taste similar to potato salad. It had delicious chunks of chicken and the avocado added an additional creaminess. It also had a light purple sauce that made it taste very unique. The fried rice tasted exactly like the familiar asian fried rice I had growing up, it was very well done perfectly seasoned and the chicken which I usually don't like in fried rice because it can be dry, theirs was perfect. The calamari was battered and fried perfectly not greasy chewy; it almost melts. It needed a tad bit of salt, but still tasted great along with the other items on the dish. I have not had a chance to try this place because it seems every time I try they always close before they're suppose to. Two days in a row calling for takeout, today they finally answered after quite some rings. I asked what they're closing time was as I've been trying to order takeout. The lady who answered said 8pm with some hesitation. I explained I've been calling the past days and I would call back to place the order once verifying with my husband he still wanted some. My husband was at a store close by and decided to stop to check it out. He stopped 20 min after my call and about 25min before closing time and doors were locked. Other customers showed up as well he said and they ignored them and just hid. This place is not that close to home but closer than our usual spot. I guess we will not bother again and just drive a little longer out of our way to where we know for sure food is good and great customer service. If they've been having slow days the least they could've done is acknowledged their customers at the door apologizing for their early closure. And if they already had the intention to close not lie to me on the phone and then close knowing people were wanting to order. I try to give places a chance before posting a bad review but their actions today really rattled my feathers. read more
