Gran colombia is my top Colombian restaurant in Houston! This place has been around for more than 10 years and they have since slightly moved locations but stayed in the same area. They renovated and everything is much nicer inside. Area is much bigger and modern. They have indoor seating with a huge covered patio and a playground for kids. Over the years their quality, flavor and good customer service has remained consistent. They treat you like family. I love that they offer a dish called Tipiquito it is a smaller version of the traditional Colombian dish known an 'Bandeja Paisa'. Not all Colombian restaurants offer this smaller version. I am happy to share about my experience when I helped coordinate a work event to feature Colombian food and I secured a catering order with Gran Colombia! They were quick to help me over the phone, they answered all my questions, they were willing to make the drive to memorial area to deliver the food. Every single step to complete the order was so easy and received the best customer service. Everyone was very happy with the food and service. I will always recommend Gran colombia! It is a must try! I've coming to this restaurant many years, I don't know if it's under new management, but the service has definitely worsen. I've been coming to this restaurant for about four years, but my recent visit was extremely disappointing. I placed a to-go order and waited around 45 minutes even though I was told it would be 20 min......the restaurant wasn't busy and had two tables so it was almost empty. During that time, the waitresses were talking and eating at the bar instead of helping customers and no one was at the register. Two waitresses hung outside. Half of my food sat on the counter for nearly 20 minutes, getting cold, while they waited on just two empanadas to finish. When I politely asked about my order one of the waitresses told me "tranquilla" (relax) which came off as rude and dismissive. I was also told this same comment by another waitress when I asked for forks and she was insisting she had put them in there even though she did not. When I first paid, I didn't leave a tip since it was a pickup order, and one of waitresses made me uncomfortable by looking at the receipt and commenting that I'd have to wait longer. It felt unprofessional and disrespectful. I've supported this place for years because I love Colombian food and their food is pretty good, but this experience really changed my impression and it just simply sucked. It's a first come first oh I didn't notice you were there first. They take more than 5 minutes to make your drinks. Nobody speaks English therefore you're screwed and they scold you for not speaking Spanish. If you're lucky you won't find hair in your food. Also the food is too pricey! read more

We've been here several times however the quality of service has declined over the past year. We took a break but decided to give them a try again. IT WAS A MISTAKE! Not only were we never greeted or offered help when we came in, they overlooked/bypassed us while they helped customers who came after. It was clearly intentional. I had to ask several people for help with my online order. While we waited I noticed flies on some pasties left unattended for over 15/20 minutes. I don't know how this people still have a business. The rice is disgusting. They even serve spoiled rice and couldn't care less if you get sick by eating that. The food is expensive and no good at all. The arepas dry and not welled cooked. The beans old and no flavor. Chorizo burnt and the customer service not very good either. They take forever to have your food ready. This place needs to be inspected because I can't believe that someone gave them liscence to sell food and possibly poison people. Why is the service so slow if nobody is there ? And we keep coming back because the food is good but it gets to a point where this is happening all the time. I always loved this restaurant and their food. But there have been a few issues that keep happening and Im not sure if it's just someone who is cooking who cannot smell or someone running the kitchen that is disorganized. This is the 3rd time that we have gotten bad, passed or rotten morcilla sausage. "Blood sausage", the first few times it was it was really sour, this sausage type is not sour at all. This time we got plain rotten putrid smelling bad sour rotten when you break the sausage open it is not safe to eat. We also got beans that were passed. Sour and bubbling. We accidentally ate some of them and got sick. Right now im waiting for someone to call me back on this later issue. We drove all the way home and will have to drive all the way back to resolve it bur since they ate not calling us back it looks like we will just have to request a refund. This place was such a great find! We came in and dined in, we ordered beef empanadas to start off with. They were crispy on the outside and full of meat on the inside. We ordered a Bandeja Paisa, and we got the kids the mini version of it. Every single item on the platters was cooked to perfection! You know goois good when they eat it all and ask for more. We also ordered chorizo and arepas, those were also perfectly cooked. Our waitress was kind an attentive, and overall the restaurant was beautifully decorated. The only thing we didn't like was the dessert flan we ordered, the texture wasn't creamy and perhaps it was overcooked. Will definitely be back soon! read more

I recommend this restaurant to a few American friends yesterday and boy was I disappointed! What an embarrassment! No one greeted us at the door. We finally sat down wherever we could find a table. The table was dirty and waited for a long time for service. When we asked if someone could clean our table, a young man reluctantly wiped it off with a paper towel. The menu was in Spanish. We asked for some wine. Warm! Who drinks warm wine? I was so embarrassed! I will never go back to that restaurant again. I have been going there for years but not any longer. I have frequented this restaurant many many times and they don't seem to disappoint at all. Even after the HWY 6 flood they have moved to a new location and the food is still great and for the price they gave you a lot of food. I usually order their daily lunch special, but since it is Father's day and dinner time I went ahead and ordered the Super Bandeja Gran Columbia, my wife order a Piasa kids, and my son just ordered the Tipiquito plate. The food was ready when we arrived to pick it up. It was a lots of food for the money even the price was changed a bit from the menu price. But still there is enough food to eat on for two days. We just went to Gran Colombia on Hwy 6. We ordered 3 beef empanadas and yuca frita And we order three bandeja paisas. Let me start by saying that we never received our appetizers. We waited about an hour to get our food. When our food arrived, we let the server know and they never brought us the 3 beef empanadas or yuca frita. They bought us cold and nasty tasting empandas, like if they have been sitting out for hours. The bandeja paisas were all cold. Since the restaurant was bought from the previous owner. The service and the food has deteriorated. I will never go back to Gran Colombia. It was a terrible experience. The server didn't even come by to see if we needed anything. I had to go and ask for 2 to go boxes and the bill because she never came back. Very disappointing. The food wasn't even that good. read more

We ate at the 2920 location. The food was good but the AC needed repair. It was HOT inside the restaurant but at least they had a repairman working on it. The coffee was great and so was the mango smoothie. We bought several things and everything was delicious. Serving sizes were great too! Apparently the chicken empanadas are not made the same as the beef ones. The flavor of the chicken was not good at all. I had the bandeja paisa as well. The rice, beans and chicharrón were good. I love Colombian food because it's so similar to Salvadoran food. I have been a customer of theirs since they were located by the fiesta. The food here is delicious and the service is amazing. One of the best Colombian kitchen I have tried in Texas, everything in the menu is delicious I have had their soups, pastries and entrees and everything is always treated n point. This time we ordered salteado mixto (chicken, beef and shrimp on tomato sauce), beef bandeja paisa, hen soup and arroz con pollo (Chichen with rice) all of the entrees comes with rice, beans and your choice of fried platains, fries or salad. The servers and staff are very friendly and courteous, I also order a cortado coffee which is espresso and milk foam (sooo good). Their pastries are epic pan de bono (cheese cassava bread) cambray (bread filled with cheese and guava), the Hawaiian is a filo pastry with cheese, ham and pineapple on the inside it's great for snacking or breakfast. I was visiting the restaurant because I like the taste of their food but I was very disappointed when it came to paying. When I asked for the bill, I checked it and found a hidden charge of 4% for using a credit card, which at that time they didn't know if I would pay in cash, so they added it anyway. I wonder how many people have been fooled with this charge, I don't understand that after spending more than $150 I have to pay that percentage to use my card. It is the first time that a restaurant has charged me that percentage without letting me know, since outside the establishment and much less when you ask for the bill they inform you. It was the last time I visited Gran Colombia and I don't plan to do it again, it bothers me that it deceived its diners. I don't know if this procedure is completely legal, if there is any reader who has information I would appreciate it if you would share it with me. $$$$$$$$$$$$$ Estuve visitando el restaurant porque me gusta el sabor de su comida pero me llevé una gran decepcion a la hora de pagar.
