Update: when I returned the car, they charged me about $100 for I guess taxes and fees; there was no mention of this when I picked up the car. They even confirmed the price I was initially quoted. I can't complain too much though because they usually nail you for returning a car somewhere other than where you got it, and as far as I can tell, they didn't, but they did charge per mile driven. The whole staff is amazing. I go out of my way to go to this location. It's pretty far for me, but they have the best customer service I have to put Virginia in this as well because I feel like she literally sleeps at this location. A prominent high school competition beginning this weekend saw groups of coaches and students arriving in Richmond from all over the country, and many rental car reservations placed simultaneously. One would assume that Avis would have been better prepared for the flood of customers, but the line snaked around to baggage claim and moved (is still moving) painfully slowly. It's been almost two hours and I have moved about 12 feet. Some customers cancelled their reservations and crossed the lobby to the far less congested alternative rental locations. Surely this is a management issue rather than the individual employees. *Edit: After all that time waiting, we were informed that their system was down (which, after reading other reviews, it seems their system has been "down" for over six months). The employee's response to frustrated customers was "It's not my problem." On top of that, they had overbooked themselves, with many of the people there seeking large passenger vans. We learned that there was a wait-list for the vehicles we had reserved, and the only options remaining were pickup trucks. My group left the line and went to Enterprise. Once again, after seeing other reviews, it seems they have a pattern of this.

My present rental from hell, is currently in the status of two very bad tires. Avis told us to drive the unsafe tires to Pepboys to get the tires fixed. Why are taking the car to the tire shop? Why didn't Avis take the car to the shop? Just found out two days ago that the front tires were bald. Aren't the vehicles supposed to be checked and serviced? But, I will say, it has After all of the running around, Avis decides not to repair the tires. My wife, the supposed maintenance driver for Avis, drove the car back to Avis and sat in the office for TWO hours. Then, again, we were again told to take the rental back to the tire shop and wait for approval to to replace the tires. A mile from the rental office the tire blew. We sat in the hot desert heat for three miserable hours waiting on Avis roadside assistance. During the three hours of starvation, didn't hear a response from roadside assistance. I did the chat and was told that it would take about 15 minutes to locate the service assistance. Never received any phone call from Avis or service. Tried to call the rental office, and they will not answer the phone. At this time I have a rental car that I can't drive. This is one of the worst rental experiences that I've had. And, this location is usually the problem, but there is another location a couple of miles down the street that rented us a car with a blown engine. This happened 11\2 days before my rental ended. Avis would not compensate me for the days lost nor refund us any money. Avis, other than the government, is the rip-off Capitol of the U.S. Anytime you offer a service to the public, there needs to be a professionalism

Alamo at Richmond Int'l Airport, you really let me down! And cost me a $65 Uber Ride as well…read more We booked a car rental with Alamo. Our flight into Richmond Int'l Airport ended up being delayed several times. I called Alamo to make sure that we would still be able to get our car rental after we landed (because we would be landing after closing hour.) I called TWICE just to make sure and was reassured both times that Alamo's policy was to wait up till 2 hrs past closing for customers because they were aware of our flight delay. They told me on the phone that their agents at the airport would wait up to 2 hrs because they were aware of our flight number (on file). When we landed at 1am...we rushed to the counter...no one was there. We went to the outside parking garage...no one was there. I called Alamo again and they told me that the airport board showed our flight had landed at 9:20 pm (which is ridiculous) and the only way we would be able to get a car would be at 7am (when Alamo reopens). We ended up having to take an expensive Uber to our destination. No car to drive. Alamo basically lied to me several times on the phone...telling me someone would be available to help with car rental after hours, when no one was there. Why lie? They very specifically stated they would wait up to 2 hrs. I would give this location 0 stars if I could for being dishonest about policy.

If you don't have the car then don't accept the reservation. The place is dirty and very unwelcoming. She advised me that each location is privately owned. That explained why the one down the street was so clean and professional and this one was a dump.

I rented for 31 days while my car was in the shop. My first car had a broken seatbelt, my second…read morecar had a smoke smell, my third car did not have any washer fluid. Leading to separate visits back to enterprise to swap out or rectify the problems. The other issue is by the 3rd car i asked to upgrade to an SUV with AWD and was verbally quoted about an extra 7 dollars per day. It ended up being double. I never signed a new agreement on the new numbers and did not receive a new RA. These were all avoidable and preventable issues, and I am the only one that has to suffer the consequences. I reached out to enterprise directly and they never responded. So i opened an AMEX dispute and they fought it. AMEX ended up doing a chargeback in my favor. Now enterprise sent me the bill and is arguing with me via email that signing an agreement for one price automatically means I signed an agreement for a new price. Then they tried to lie and say I was given the correct price verbally. I also had to complain about turnpike fees, i took toll roads the entire 31 days and paid cash every single tried, they tried to bill me anyway (it was refunded). Unsafe cars and shady charge practices here! Avoid it at all costs!
