    The ridiculous line

    Absolutely the worst rental experience. I've been in the line for an hour and a half and they've helped one person every fifteen minutes or so. There's still about 20 people in front of me. This is insane.

    I tried Avis for the first time at Richmond international airport, because their price was better than the competitors. It took three tries to get a decent car and then the Nissan rogue I was given was filthy on the highway after every pothole and pump sounded like metal scraping against metal, and generally felt like an unstable vehicle that was in need of maintenance. I spent hours at my destination in Fredericksburg, trying to swap the car out to no avail. Finally, I called the roadside assistance people, which also took five calls and organized a tow truck to come and pick it up. The tow truck. driver was the best I ended up, renting from enterprise, car, rental in Fredericksburg, and true to form good customer service, decent vehicle no surprises. Do not use Avis at this airport. I will never use Avis again.

    Third time here just as awful. Hate that my work books here No one at the front counter, waited ten minutes. Eventually a bunch of us just went upstairs to be yelled at by the same chick who I've seen yelling at people the last two times I was here. Yells at us to go downstairs where again I wait in a line without a worker for 30 min. Rude, terrible at their job, picking up a prepaid car should not take an hour. Last time my car wasn't ready for an hour, time before that it was disgusting/not cleaned.

    Others in line, not checking

    I'm sitting on the floor at the Richmond airport waiting with a long line of others. We all have reservations. They won't even check us in or talk to anyone in line. When asked they say they are clearing the wait list before checking anyone else in. Been sitting here for well over an hour and no idea when I'll be checked in much less get the car I prepaid $175 for 2 days for.

    This is the line just to put your name on the wait list to then wait to be called

    Of all the car rental places across this country, and even in other countries I've been to, this is hands down the worst. Over an hour, with a reservation, is what's waiting for you. We flew from Nashville to Richmond faster than they could retrieve the car. PBS documentaries on the Civil War move faster. Status update: 2 hrs in, still nothing. Call FEMA, we need food and water. They're using a printer from the 80s. The South will in fact not rise again. Thoughts and prayers.

    The car i rented and returned April 14-15

    This place is scam. The car I reserved was not available, the second car they gave me literally said on the window "dead battery " and the third car finally worked out. I returned it the following day April 15. It is now April 29 and I find out Avis had taken $2k out of my account claiming i returned the Honda late. None of this is possible I've been in La since the 15th and I WAS DRIVING A CHEVY MALIBU NOT A HONDA. Very disorganized organization

    44.26 is what they refund me the stole 150.00

    Under staffed and impressively incompetent. Book through any other rental company but Avis or budget at this airport.

I remember I reserved it at $45 per day. Somehow it jumped to $75.75 per day. I asked the agent to check again. Another agent came to help and said the price was right. I asked is there any specials I could have. They said no. Then, when I got into the car. I found someone's rental receipt with $39.50 per day on it. Just few days apart. What happened? Oh well. Instead, when we arrived, we had to wait in line anyway, and when we got to the front, we were informed that no cars of the type we had reserved were available. So what was the point of the online check-in? We ended up doing the same work at the counter. Furthermore, the guy at the counter tried to downsize our car. We had reserved a Nissan Rogue. He was trying to downsize us to a Nissan Kick, a much smaller SUV, and saying he was going to be generous and not upcharge us. He should have been offering us a discount, or a bigger car! What a disappointment all around, but sadly this kind of service is par for the course for Hertz.

Our flight into Richmond Int'l Airport ended up being delayed several times. I called Alamo to make sure that we would still be able to get our car rental after we landed (because we would be landing after closing hour.) I called TWICE just to make sure and was reassured both times that Alamo's policy was to wait up till 2 hrs past closing for customers because they were aware of our flight delay. They told me on the phone that their agents at the airport would wait up to 2 hrs because they were aware of our flight number (on file). When we landed at 1am...we rushed to the counter...no one was there. We went to the outside parking garage...no one was there. I called Alamo again and they told me that the airport board showed our flight had landed at 9:20 pm (which is ridiculous) and the only way we would be able to get a car would be at 7am (when Alamo reopens). We ended up having to take an expensive Uber to our destination. No car to drive. Alamo basically lied to me several times on the phone...telling me someone would be available to help with car rental after hours, when no one was there. Why lie? They very specifically stated they would wait up to 2 hrs. I would give this location 0 stars if I could for being dishonest about policy.

The day night of my reservation, about 4 hours before, I get a phone call stating that "there may not be a vehicle" for me. I was in complete shock because I was traveling with one of my kids and my final destination was about an hour away from the airport. There was absolutely nothing I could do and I was told the best they could do was for me to return the next day. I was given a customer service number to fully cancel my rental without penalty and that was it. This thing was intensely large, and it made parking anywhere in the city a miserable experience. They were unfriendly about it, acting as if they were doing me a favor by giving me any car, despite my reservation. I had to go to another location, taking time out of my vacation, to trade into a more reasonable vehicle. (It also wasn't full of fuel, despite the paperwork saying otherwise.) I found out at the other location that they had done the same thing to another customer the night before, obviously trying to rent these vehicles that no one had wanted and refusing to honor reservations. I don't mind a free class upgrade, but I also don't need or want a vehicle that is completely unreasonable and unlike what I reserved! When I needed to extend my reservation one day due to a flight delay, I was quoted one price for the extra day, but they failed to mention I would be charged a late fee and other charges. Adding to the insanity, they never sent me a bill, so I had to track it down on their website to see why I was charged significantly more than quoted. Finally, there was also a creepy guy dressed like a rent-a-cop at the exit, claiming he needed to see my paperwork, but he was intentionally not speaking in full words and acting so bizarrely that we still don't know if he was a real employee or some sort of scammer..
