I love this place. The food is some of the best I've had. Its consistent and consistently good. Portion sizes are generous. The owner is always here and he makes the rounds and is very friendly. I cant say enough good things. They are now fully open after the whole Covid mess. read more

I am cautious about eating in a strip mall. This particular restaurant is situated among auto zone, a few clothing stores, and a check cashing place. Not the best location, but the interior is tropical-ish. --2 stars The tacos are served on corn tortillas, slightly fried, but not fully crispy, which I enjoyed. Of the 6 tacos we sampled, my favorite was the pork with mango salsa. The remaining were fairly bland. The tacos are topped with chopped fresh spinach, which doesn't really add much flavor. The jalapeño coleslaw tasted like regular coleslaw, not really special. The fried plantains were excellent. --2 stars The prices are much higher than I would expect, considering the location and portion size. 4 smaller tacos and 1 side (fried plantains) was $14. Most of the appetizers are over $10, chips and salsa are not complimentary. Entrees fall in the $13-$19 range. Two people, 1 beer each, no mixed drinks, no desert, no appetizer, $45 with a decent tip. Definitely better values if you look elsewhere. --1 star The server was polite and delivered our order to the table correctly. She was friendly and personable, and the reason this 2 star review became a 3 star. It's mediocre food in a strip mall, and the prices do not reflect that. I probably won't return. read more

This is a relatively new joint in the area, and we get by there on a regular basis. It calls itself a Taqueria, and I found that a bit misleading as it brings to mind all the Mexican street taco staples I love. Instead, it's artisan tacos with things like curried lamb and other unusual but tasty treats. If you know that up front, you won't be disappointed. They also have good burgers, something that's a bit lacking around here. And unlike most places, they don't serve the burgers on absurdly sweet buns. Seriously, there must be a crazy big sweet tooth down here on the coast. I nearly gave up eating them 'til I found a couple of places like Rum Kitchen. Can't abide a burger on a sweet roll. There are a number of full dinner entrees as well, though I've never managed to get past the burgers and tacos to try them. They do make a sauce, though, served with things like fried plantains, that'll go on just about anything. Good stuff. Everything's Caribbean-influenced. Give it a shot. read more

Ate dinner at Rum Kitchen for the first time tonight, and we loved it. My jalapeno/cilantro/margarita was so good. The food (I had the Rum Chicken) tasted delish and was so fresh. The food sucks. I got a plain burger and it was burnt and the bun was soggy. The fries were cold but still tasty in a weird way. I complained and sir chappy came out and shouted at me about how it wasn't burnt and that the fries were good. The waitress apologized on his behalf and I left after paying the bill. -Not very good food for the price. -Taco shells were soggy and stale. -No rootbeer, no liquor (though on the menu,) Said "They don't have their liquor license yet." -Service wasn't very accommodating. Kept talking to another employee rather than helping our party. We had to find our own menus and silverware. - Brisket had an amazing flavor! Though dry. - Shrimp tacos had only two pieces of shrimp each. - It seems they were going for an attraction restaurant with live music and great atmosphere, how ever the suite they're in limits their full potential. 10 tables with a corner for a pianist. -Great music however it was almost concert volume in a tiny suite. The food is interesting and good. A bit pricey, but fun enough that we've visited several times. The owner comes out to greet you. He's OK. Get back to the food and enjoying your meal. The tacos are great and allow you to have wide variety in one meal. It's REALLY tempting just to order tacos every time we come in, but do justice for the rest of the food. It's worth it. We started off with watermelon Rita and a "Mai tai". The watermelon Rita was really good. The Mai tai however was not what your typical mai tai would be. The Mai tai was more or less tasted like run with sour lemonade in it. I had to ask for a shot of orange juice and simple syrup to try and cut the sour. We next got an appetizer called the pulled pork nachos which were okay. They pretty much threw some chips on the bottom and clumped everything on top. My dad got mahi plate with mango coconut rice and asparagus and he said it was delicious. My mom got the burger special which was the mushroom and pepper jack burger with sweet potato fries and she said it was delicious as well. I received the jerk chicken salad. It tasted good but presentation was lacking. It was all green with chicken on top. Some mangos or something on top would have added the extra something it needed. The overall experience was interesting and new but seriously over priced for what we received. For how busy the Resturaunt was they definitely needed more servers and especially another bartender seeing as my dad waited at least ten minutes for his first glass of wine and almost finished his meal before his second glass of wine ($11) came. read more

Food is good, but not worth the costly price. We ordered the grilled mahi mahi with coconut rice and asparagus. It was very good, but the asparagus was over cooked and the dish wasn't worth $20. The shrimp sandwich was small and the cheese wasn't even melted. The kids shrimp and fries was decent. And have to say, that was worth $5. We waited almost an hour for our food and it wasn't really busy. Maybe it's just the newness of the staff. Our waiter was obviously a break-in waiter. Delicious food , well pleased with this place. Had the special which was a ribeye with barbecue shrimp. The steak was fantastic and the shrimp were some of the best I've ever eaten. It also came with jambalaya and broccoli with cheese also delicious. Ordered the chocolate rum cake for dessert, awesome!!!! The burger was excellent, service excellent, sweet potato fries were on point however the tacos not so much. They lacked any spice the shell was soft, I selected asparagus which only came with fours pieces and the macaroni and cheese/ which tasted sour and the noodles were undercooked. I would highly recommend the burgers. Customer service was above standard, waitress was prompt but not overbearing and the owner visited twice, once before meal and once after food arrived. Oh and other thumbs down was bread pudding, pretty dry and made like a loaf soaked in French toast batter. I have to give 4 stars for the burger, one of the best in town. read more

Unexpected stop while in town securing property for upcoming hurricane. Had the duck tacos and chili glazed shrimp tacos. Sides were jalapeño slaw and fried plantains. Sides were very good. The only thing that kept the tacos from being excellent (and getting a 5th star) was that the corn tortilla was not hot. The taste and sauces were very good. We will be back. read more

So this was tied as one of our favorite places. My wife and I got the rum chicken and it was awesome. My other family members all got different tacos and loved all of them. Decided to get desert, the cheesecake was good, but very different from regular cheesecake. The owner said it was gluten free because it is not made with a crust, but forms a crust as cooked. This is no Sara lee cheesecake. Its the real deal. Its all a big piece that can be shared. We also got the bread pudding, which was awesome and shared along with the key lime pie. We wish we could have comer back here instead of going to 200 north and Trapani's and they were both bad. Eat here!!!!! read more
