Heard great things and had faith that Chappy would do wonderful things.... First time going was not at all impressed.. The queso on the nachos was strange and bitter, and the toppings were minimal... Moving on to the tacos - the descriptions all sounded absolutely amazing so I tried 3 different ones - duck, shrimp and veggie... ALL were insanely bland leaving much to be desired in flavor and the shells were limp and chewey. Plus they are all covered in a ridiculous amount of chopped spinach - I could not understand this at all, the flavor was just cometwly wrong. A pretty terrible experience all the way around, and in most circumstances would not go back but I felt I needed to give the place another shot... Much to my dismay, we had the same horrible experience the second time around. An utter disappointment. read more

Great first experience at Rum Kitchen. It was not busy, but it was also early on a Tuesday evening. Service was prompt and friendly. We were greeted by three members of the staff. Our waitress provided suggestions and quick service. The appetizer of calamari was the right portion. I found it to be slightly over fried to my liking but my wife and son both enjoyed it. The jerk style dipping sauce was excellent. My wife had the grilled mahi plate. The fish was great as well as the sauce. The guacamole seemed a little out of place but was flavorful. I tried a sampler of the tacos. Each was good, but the grilled shrimp taco with queso fell apart. Not a complaint because it did taste good. The fried mahi taco was perfect with the coleslaw. My son and I both tried the brisket and pulled rib tacos. These were absolute barbecue perfection. The sauce was tangy and the meat well smoked and flavorful. Overall on service and food great job. I like the atmosphere and look. We live close enough that Rum Kitchen will definitely be in our regular restaurant rotation. read more

The burger was excellent, service excellent, sweet potato fries were on point however the tacos not so much. They lacked any spice the shell was soft, I selected asparagus which only came with fours pieces and the macaroni and cheese/ which tasted sour and the noodles were undercooked. I would highly recommend the burgers. Customer service was above standard, waitress was prompt but not overbearing and the owner visited twice, once before meal and once after food arrived. Oh and other thumbs down was bread pudding, pretty dry and made like a loaf soaked in French toast batter. I have to give 4 stars for the burger, one of the best in town. read more

This is a small place, tucked away in a strip mall so it may be easily overlooked...but it's definitely worth a stop. It was quite early today (Tuesday) when we stopped in for supper. The owner (?) warmly greeted us as we entered and took us to a table (there are booths available, too). Our server, a very pleasant women, promptly took our drink orders as she gave us menus and was quickly back with drinks and answers to all our questions. After a perfect amount of wait time, our order appeared. All four of us upted for burgers of differing types. The pepper jack burger and the RK burger were judged to be excellent (I don't recall any more specifics than that). I thoroughly enjoyed the piggy burger - a half-pound of perfectly grilled beef topped with cheddar and a slab of grilled ham served on a light, fluffy bun. Burgers here are served with either regular fries or sweet potato fries...the regulars we had were just right. Burgers are also topped with lettuce, tomato, mayo and pickles, but asking for only some or none at all didn't upset our server or the kitchen. We also ordered a taco platter to go and that was judged to be excellent as well. There are many taco, sandwich and seafood dishes available at Rum Kitchen. I liked the flavors of the burgers and thought it was a good size, however the sweet potatoes fires were skimpy. A bit deceiving being served in this huge fried basket, there were more paper than fried. My husband on the other hand did not enjoy it at all. He based his rating on the time we had to wait for drink and he wasn't so please with his burger (to much char). His this reason we won't be back. read more

Just left Rum Kitchen, as it's a frequent stop for lunches here in the Bay. WAS frequent! We ordered the normal order, which includes a kids burger and fries. Upon delivery, the serving was huge and in no way could be eaten by our barely 11 year old. I asked the waitress if they had changed something. She said they sent out an adult portion and she would have the bill changed to reflect what we ordered. Chappy, the owner came out and got within an inch of my face. He loudly told me that the kids burger is for 10 years and under. He didn't ask the age...just assumed (kid is tall like his 6'6 father). No apologies. No grace. Just rude and loud. He told me that it was plain as day on the menu, which we don't even view since we were frequent flyers! He repeated himself with his condescending tone and walked off. Needless to say, our appetites were ruined and we were two bites in. We paid our bill and left. The waitress apologized that she couldn't change the bill because he didn't approve it. As we were walking out, he approached me again and asked if she changed the bill (which he knew she didn't, as he already denied the change). I told him I didn't appreciate his aggressive behavior, which he denied. As we were walking out, the girl at the front asked why he didn't just apologize to which he responded "it won't change jack shi*". Will NOT be back. I should've known better than to trust this establishment after seeing how Chappy acted on Kitchen Nightmares for the whole world to see!! Not a nice guy! Definitely not handled professionally or with care! No more support from my family and friends. read more

My husband and I went for Sunday lunch after finding it on Yelp. Ashly was our waitress and was very attentive and kind. The food was outstanding! My husband had a cheeseburger that he gave a 9.5 out of 10 (he is a hard grader)! I had the brisket melt with sweet potato fries. Mine was a 10 out of 10. Very juicy with amazing flavor. read more

The waitress was very nice... refilled drinks and came by often to check on us. The food was mediocre at best. Our chicken quesadilla tasted a little weird. Chicken was rubbery. At first we thought it was uncooked, but I think it was just fatty. Food was bland. The biggest turn off was that they CHARGE 4% EXTRA if you use a CREDIT CARD and the waitress had to ask us to write down our tip before she entered the card... how embarrassing for her. Execellent service, cocktails were very refreshing. My son ordered the shrimp tacos and the shrimp were not completely cooked. Sent it back for a second time and still came back not cooked. The chef came out and told me the shrimp were gulf shrimp and not Chinese shrimp!!! I was speechless. I have been cooking for 30 years and I know shrimp when cooked have a pink color NOT grey. This place was an amazing hole in the wall to discover. The service was amazing and the food was top notch i couldn't get my servers name but he was amazing he sounded like he was the owner which if he was he did an amazing job. The food was fast and delicious me my wife and daughter got the guac chips as an appetizer and it was just over all amazing it was melt in your mouth worthy but the chips weren't flimsy and they still melted in your mouth i had the mushroom pepper jack burger and it came on a Hawaiian sour dough bun, the burger was a perfect medium to my specifications. It was truly enthralling. My wife picked 3 separate tacos one brisket one shrimp and I forget the other but all 3 were amazing I would have taken a picture but it was too good to let get cold. We also ordered bread pudding to go which was THE BEST I've ever had. It was a fair price for the best tasting restaurant in Bay Saint Louis.. also their alcohol was strong I'm sure they hooked me up on it which I'm not complaining on that aspect! It is very clean, great staff, not crowded, and the menu is a lot of fun! Tacos are interesting combos and burgers looked great. It feels out of place from some of its surroundings (In a good way). They also offer some kind of brunch (with bottomless mimosas) on Saturday and Sunday (11-2). Just so y'all don't think I am a paid advertiser, or relative.... I would say that the kitchen took a little longer than I expected and the food was not piping hot. However, I loved the flavor combinations. My wife and I had 4 tacos (2 types of pork, duck, and chicken) with mango rice (Awesome!) and black beans with chorizo.... Ashley (our server) was very attentive and ensured that our other needs were met. A courteous staff makes all the difference when food is delayed. I don't know if we were waiting on a specific part of the dish to finish, or the the kitchen just works on island time... but the end result was worth the wait. Wow! What a fabulous addition to the area! We were greeted enthusiastically and the service was prompt and attentive. The cranberry mojitos were delicious and festive. We had three people and we all opted for two tacos and two sides. Everyone was thrilled with their choices- I had the curry lamb taco and the spicy shrimp taco - both were delicious! The coconut mango rice is to die for! We had room for dessert and we enjoyed the bread pudding. The rum cake was not quite as flavorful - and a bit too sweet. We had as solid recommendation from a friend to try this new restaurant. Good variety that is fabulous. I tried 3 different tacos- shrimp, brisket and lamb. All were unique and very tasty. My husband is a burger expert. He had the special pepper Jack cheese and mushroom burger. Every aspect of the sandwich was a great piece to the composition. He raved about whole meal.
