I consulted with Steve (Pargo) on filing a personal tax return. During our free consultation, Steve…read morewas helpful and considerate; however, thereafter, he failed to conduct business in a professional and trustworthy manner. When asked about his price, Steve stated he does not have a set price, as it's based on the amount of work needed to compete the return (this seems fair). Steve further stated I would not be locked in on the price once he reviewed my tax documents and provided a price. Steve called approximately 1.5 weeks later and provided an estimated return based on my documents as well as a price of $800.00. Based on my prior professional accountants I've used (who all charged $200 or less), I believed this price to be unreasonable. I asked Steve what is hourly rate was and what his workload was in hours (so I could reverse engineer his seemingly outrageous number). Steve failed to address my questions, stating he charges a higher rate for professional work (which is a clear evasion to avoid the glaring issue). I informed Steve I did not want to proceed with the filing of the tax return, since the price seemed unreasonable (as well as of his lack of justification for such a price). Steve attempted to gaslight me by stating the work was done (implying I owed him because of the work) - contrary to our prior verbal agreement (per parameters he set). Steve further attempted to gaslight me by making the rhetorical remark: "if that's how you want to do business, then come get your documents." (He offered to mail them too). This is widely unprofessional given our initial agreement. In summation - Steve is either new at accounting and justified (in his mind) the high price, due to an unnecessary amount of time he spent trying to figure out how to properly file our taxes (because he lacks the knowledge on military-related services and capital gains, two intricacies involved with my return). Or, Steve attempted to swindle me for more money than what his services were worth (compared to the market), because he was aware I was getting ~23k back in taxes charged incorrectly to my wife's military medical severance pay. In either case, Steve failed to be honest about his price upfront and hoped I would be manipulated to pay it after he was done reviewing. This could have easily been avoided if Steve was honest about his hourly rate and/or a percentage he charges based on the total tax refund. This clearly shows Steve lacks professionalism, as he is looking to get the most amount on money based on the circumstances (and is willing to lie and omit facts to do so). At the age of 32, I have never worked with an incompetent and untrustworthy accountant - until Steve. You have been warned

After some research and calling around several places in St Charles CO. I called Affordable Accounting and Tax and I'm so happy I did! We scheduled an appointment and we had amazing customer service through and through! Jane was personable, knowledge, professional and kind. Tax service was efficient and reasonably priced, we saved time and money (plus frustration!!) compared to H&R Block!! I would and have recommended this tax service to friends and family!

I will never use this company again. I filed my federal and state taxes with them. Several months…read morelater, I received a bill stating I had not paid for their tax preparation services. I contacted the office with payment confirmation information. Less than a week later, I received another bill, of which I had to again call with confirmation. That is not so horrible - I understand mix ups can happen. However, I received a bill from Missouri saying I did not pay my taxes. After staying on the phone for an hour, it turned out my taxes were filed under the incorrect SS#. I ended up correcting everything with the state myself. Unfortunately, the federal government is a bit more challenging. In January of this year, I received a letter from the Feds stating I never filed my taxes (I owed $3900, so this was very alarming). To make a long story short, my federal taxes were also filed under the wrong SS#. I called Affordable Taxes to tell them about the letter and that I looked at my records and saw an incorrect SS#. I spoke directly with Jane and she claimed that her office caught the mistake before it went. She became very irritated with me when I asked for details - even if I was upset (I really wasn't, but I did ask a lot of questions), I have every right to make sure I have everything I need. She was terribly rude, and after more research on my part, it turns out she did in fact file my returns incorrectly. Finally, I went into the office to get the corrected documents. When comparing my document (originally given a year prior), I saw certain papers not included. When I asked for them, she became upset stating the extras were not required. I asked for them anyway, and she became even more upset by slamming papers and yelling about my bad attitude - both now and when I called in. Clearly, I wasn't happy, but I was in business mode and simply wanted information. She actually kicked me out of her office and told me I could not review the documents to make sure they were correct. I am shocked and completely dismayed by her mistakes and lack of professionalism. I have never in my life been treated with such utter disrespect. I work in the customer service industry and have a deep understanding of how to speak to people, as well as how customers should be treated. Again, had I been treated with any modicum or respect, I likely would have given them another chance. Please take this review to heart and avoid Affordable Taxes and Accounting at all cost (and, it will cost you!).
