The attorneys did not verify whether my mother's house (her largest value asset) was in her trust. This could have been done in minutes, which the lawyers did while we were in their office two days after my mother's death. It would have been a simple matter to transfer the house into trust at the time the will was signed. As a result of the lawyer's carelessness, my mother's estate needed to go through probate. It took a year. During the delay, the value of her house declined. The lawyers also failed to adequately advise the executor as to his duties. The executor's actions with respect to the estate caused additional unreimbursed expense ( $15,000) to one of the beneficiaries.
