When I contacted Brittany, Northwest Urology's receptionist, she told me they were booked through mid-October -- six months after I scheduled my original appointment. When I told Brittany that was unacceptable, and that I would need an appointment in June or July, she took an attitude. She had the temerity to blame ME for taking the appointment her office would ultimately cancel by saying, "You didn't HAVE to reschedule your vacation. You could have taken the August appointment!" I asked her to have an administrator or Dr. Khan call me himself to reschedule prior to August, but all Brittany could muster in a sarcastic way was, "I hope you have a NICE day!" I'm actually glad this happened. While writing bad reviews on several sites for Dr. Khan's office, I discovered Dr. Khan has a number of one and two star reviews. One site (maybe it's this one), had him rated with only 2.9 stars (before my review). Whether Brittany is rude to all of the doctor's patients, or if Dr. Khan is a poor doctor, is of no matter to me anymore. I used to run 25 to 30 miles a week and did this for about 8 years. Unknowingly at the time, my lumbar spine and hips took a beating. I received a lumbar spinal fusion in 2001, and had complications (lumbosacral root disorder, hip spine syndrome and arthritis). Those complications led to my falling and sustaining 5 concussions (post concussion syndrome) in the last 2 years, and using a walker and a cane for mobility. Dr. Eric Ericson is my neurologist. I selected him after researching his credentials, which are outstanding. We also share the same alma mater (Go Cats!) so I felt comfortable immediately with him. What I like most about him is he listens and is supportive. The brain MRI results enabled him to create a plan tailored to my needs. With all of the falls, I've developed PTSD and painfully intense hip problems, too. I'm receiving hip injections, physical therapy, and massage and psychological counseling. Some days I want to throw in the towel, but my care team and family have been so supportive that there is no way I could ever let them down. I'm still climbing the mountain to recovery and know it will be strenuous at times, but I'm in good hands. I highly recommend Dr. Ericson and his staff because they not only know their stuff, but they really care. Yes, they care.

However I have to say that Dr. Baskaya, who operated on and cared for my mother in the spring of 2011, consistently impressed me as having that rare quality - - rarest of all in a surgeon - - humility. The other thing that struck me about seeing him at work over the course of a week or more, was that his staff adores him. I would not hesitate to place myself or any of my loved ones in his care. Since he's a neurosurgeon, I hope that doesn't happen, of course, but should the need arise, he will be my first choice.

I have ups and downs with the Neurology at the UW Hospital. It's a Level 4 Epilepsy hospital (I…read morethink one of only 3 in WI) so the equipment is top notch and the doctors are very well-trained and extremely knowledgeable, so you really can't beat that. The issue is the ratio of patients to doctors is so oversaturated that it's tough to get 100% of the care you need and pretty tough to get an appointment -sometimes 4-6 months. Most end up being virtual video appointments in order to get through the long line, but it can be a nice option if you live further. The scheduling team is definitely on-the-ball calling patients on the cancelation list. If you catch the call right away you can probably get a sooner appointment! The Neurology team is relatively fast at replying to MyChart messages, which is awesome! If something is really pressing and you're willing to wait on hold, you may be able to reach a nurse via phone too. I give them 4 stars though because if you stress that things are really starting to effect the quality of life; the doctors are quick to order MRIs, PETs and studies. I did a 6 day stay in the EMU and the care of the attending doctors, RNs, MAs, PAs and techs was nothing short phenomenal. The EMU is a pretty miserable place but the teamwork, communication and care was fantastic. Top-notch equipment. Lovely room. Really great food, everything can be ordered in advance via an iPad. I've worked with Dr. Felton, Dr. Gardon, Dr Laquer and Therese Aschkenase NP. All in all, there are big pros and cons to UW Neurology but it's the best care you're going to find as long as you're patient for appointments!

That being said, I've been suffering from a migraine headache for a while. Just one big, long, nasty migraine that won't go away! After all kinds of tests done by my GP, he suggested that I see Dr. DeSanto. At our initial visit, she took at least 20 minutes talking to me, trying to pinpoint the exact cause of what's going on in my head. After discussion, we BOTH decided that medication would be a great start to kicking this in the butt. Two and a half weeks later, still not feeling good, and am having nasty side effects from the meds. I called her office, and she wasn't in. Next day, SHE called me back to ask what was up. Changed my meds. Two weeks after this call, I call again. Nasty side effects, still not cutting it on the feeling better side either. Called her, and her office had her call me back personally. We chatted for about 5 minutes, and decided to try one more. I've never had a doctor that calls me back personally, and takes the time to listen to what I have to say. For this reason alone, she gets five stars. I would give her five more for the pure fact that she's excellent at what she does, has terrific bedside manner, and is an overall awesome person.

Due to some complications (from my mom) her stay was over 60+ days and Dr Lopez brought her through it! He never ceases to amaze me.
